Reminiscent of the season Leicester won it, the regular big teams had a season off, and Tottenham just never had the belief to go all the way.Competitive, yes, but also a few of the ‘big’ teams are misfiring. It’s quite an open league (except Liverpool!), it’s just a shame we’re not good enough to take advantage of that.
Yeah. When we appointed him I was sceptical. We looked a rabble. Lost a game then he bailed out. Job waa too big for him imo. Jol done really well steadying the ship.Wasn't he only here for about 2 months or something like that.
I think the 15-16 team was more flawed than it was a mental belief issue. We had fuck all depth and Poch bungled some big matches. The lads legs went some time around March (an absolutely terrible month) and we couldn’t keep up the intensity.Reminiscent of the season Leicester won it, the regular big teams had a season off, and Tottenham just never had the belief to go all the way.
We stumbled into a title race that year by dint of just improving faster than expected.Reminiscent of the season Leicester won it, the regular big teams had a season off, and Tottenham just never had the belief to go all the way.
The very business end poch made mistakes. Should have used Son more in the run-in. It werent the chelsea game that killed. Drawing at home to wba was the killer game. 2nd half we just backed off. Did the same v chelsea at the bridge being 2 nil up.I think the 15-16 team was more flawed than it was a mental belief issue. We had fuck all depth and Poch bungled some big matches.
OkWe stumbled into a title race that year by dint of just improving faster than expected.
It was the Scum who dropped the title that year.
I did say he was trying. Not that we were able to do it at all times.Or really sure about imposi g ourselves. V wolves 2nd half they dominated us in 2nd half. We didn’t really look like scoring. That’s with us being at home, them in bottom 4 and missing a few players.
Loans and a measly budget is probably the case no matter what the scenario isThink the january transfer window will be a clue with the predicament of ange. Just loans and a measly budget from board imo is an indication of low faith in him.
Since when did we start hiring fat managers ?
Since Conte walked out?
Another thing I've noticed - always makes like for like subs.He does adapt, but not on the scale he needs to, and not beyond pre-match and half time. It’s during matches that he seems happy to let it play out, and doesn’t really tinker which is what’s baffling and frustrating.
When people say he’s inflexible I think it’s more in depth, defensive and in-game on the fly.
I'd say it's repetitive and one-dimensional rather than boring.Say what you want about Ange, but his football definitely ain’t boring.
Predictable.I'd say it's repetitive and one-dimensional rather than boring.
Kane, Eriksen, Walker, Verts, Toby, Lloris, Dembele is a level of athlete and footballing skill lightyears beyond anything we have at the moment.
Maybe that's a coach issue and can be fixed by changing manager but I'm not so sure. We'll find out soon enough
Poch definitely improved some players - especially Walker and Rose. So there's that
I think that he has as long of a rope as he has because he still has a decently large faction of the fandom on his side. He’s still living from the fist 10 games of last season it’s absolutely crazy. In 18 months we had 2 months and a half of good results. At the beginning. That’s it
Fucking excellent post mate.I honestly don’t hate Poch, I’m nearly 60 and he gave me two of my favourite seasons as a Spurs fan (I have to go back to the 80’s for other favourite seasons) and I think despite not winning anything he’s possibly the best coach we’ve had in my time.
And I don’t think Ange is the messiah either, last year I was pointing out the flaws when we were winning, likewise got stuck in this thread when we were on winning form for pointing out what I thought were inherent flaws. And fuck knows some of his decisions lately really fuck me off.
But I’m also realistic enough to see that when Poch wasn’t presented with good recruitment his football turned to shite, even in the peak years some of his decisions cost us titles/cups, and last year his £1bn Chelsea shipped more goals than Ange and his “no defence” football.
Likewise, these guys that keep saying Ange doesn’t adapt, don’t spend a fucking nano second actually analysing whether he actually does tweak things tactically, because he does. But you can’t tweak a VVD or a Toby A, Vertinghen, a peak Kane, a peak Son, Eriksen, Dembele, Wanyama etc until we build another great team, whoever we appoint will fuck us off. The one thing all those managers had were at least one or two top of the tree players. Modric, Bale, Kane etc. Ange doesn’t even have one of those to carry the team.
I remember during the dog shit Mourinho/Conte years people saying “I wouldn’t mind losing if only we were trying to win”. Turns they are going to whine about losing no matter how it happens. Who knew.
I’m ambivalent about what happens to Ange now, finding it hard to care, but until we recruit another good team, we won’t be one, no matter who’s in charge.
And this is the the most competitive PL, with better coaching and players from top to bottom, there has ever been. By a fucking mile.
