Player Archie Gray

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

That's brilliant Pleb. You have such a way with name calling, really is fascinating.

Gray can say what he wants, Ange still needs to get results. Let's not forget where we are in the league, and only a clown would think where we are right now is acceptable. One win last night does not make up for that, we aren't even through to the next round.

We can enjoy the win, but don't get silly.
What can I say, I love spiders and live in a land loaded with them!

He has to play CM, far too much talent to be a CB.

IMO he's like a Declan Rice but with actual elite footballing ability.

He has a very high ceiling and you want a talent like this dominating games in the middle of the park, going forward to score goals, not just defending.

He would be able to play CB to a high level if required but just feel it would be a bit of a waste.

When he moves into centre mid I hope the fans are patient with him because he is not a Carrick or Pirlo, he does sometimes give the ball away, I don't think he has shown a tendency to score goals from midfield, I think his strengths are to read danger, intercept and then play simple passes for other more forward thinking teammates to do their business......

iirc in a few pre season games he played centre mid and at times he didn't look comfortable, passes went astray, and plenty of fans were on his back saying what a waste of money

Bergvall has had plenty of doubters too

These kids need 100% patience and support. The talent is there but they will have bad games, show inconsistency, will have t play different positions during this developing stage, but in two or three years time they will be better off for it.

They both had great games against the Bin Dippers and that was a real bonus I reckon!

I remember Gray was MOM and dominated against Chelsea in the cup last season playing CM. I would need to watch him there to know what type of midfielder he can be, but yeah I guess he could complement Bergvall really well, who would be the 8 and Gray the 6.

Agree they need time and they probably won't be consistently great for a good few years yet.

He can see a pass got much better football IQ than Bissouma or Bentancur. Obviously Bissouma and Bentancur are slightly better than him at the moment because of their physicality at the moment but he has 18 got plenty of time to grow.

I was shocked at how skinny he was when he left the pitch yesterday I know he is 18but he handles himself pretty well physically on the pitch so when he fills out he should be fine as a DM+

Leeds fan dropping in, wanted to see how young Archie was getting on amongst the fans. Seems to be the hit we all expected, was gutted to see him leave but £40m for a defender in the Champ no club is ever turning down, but it's becoming excellent value for you I see.

He's incredibly mature, confident and tbh whilst a CM by trade he never really played there for us and he could well just become a CB due to his age. I was staggered City didn't move more for him, I saw him as a natural successor to John Stones, but Peps loss and all that.

Those years of playing Futsal have done him good and his footballing family have taught him the skills from a young age.

Look after him, you've got a player there for years.
Thanks for dropping in.

I don't think you need to visit this forum to know that we're very happy with Archie. Ange has spoken incredibly highly of him in a couple of recent press conferences. You won't find a Spurs fan with a bad word for him.

I'm looking forward to seeing him given licence to start getting forwards a bit more often.

He absolutely deserves proper midfield minutes when our actual defenders are back, however we'll need to be prepared to be patient with him when he goes in there. DM and CB are really nothing alike in terms of positioning and the challenges that you face when you're on the ball. It's quite likely that it'll take him some time to readjust to what's required in midfield.

I loved that moment in the game and looks even better in slow mo. His composure on the ball and that pass at the end is a thing of beauty. Can't wait to see him and Bergvall together in midfield.
sarr, gray and bergvall. thats our midfield future right there. out of the 3 of them i think sarr is the one that could be converted to a number 6. hes got that range to cover short ground really quick when defending. just needs to be molded on the ball to be more of an anchor point and stay disciplined. then again maybe gray could too, but think gray might be more beneficial higher up than sarr.

---------sarr---------
--berg--------gray
------mad/kulu----
-----dom---????

would like to see that. pure energy in the midfield with technical quality too. son, johnson, richy or even kulu could partner dom up front depending if you want pace or ball retention.

Sarr is more box to box. Gray as the holding midfielder for me and Sarr and berg as 8s.

Totally agree, playing cm and receiving the ball with your back to play is incredibly difficult. Especially the way we play under pressure.

He needs to learn on the job and that means there will be mistakes along the way

Sarr’s touch is too loose and his passing is mot that refined. He’s always gonna be a a box to box player for me. Where he can improve is refining his box crashing ability.
but thats if you're comparing him to rodri which is completely unrealistic. if sarr is going to be a 6 its more in the traditional CDM mould. loose touch is more detrimental higher up where its going to be in tighter spaces etc. i think sarr is a solid footballer, with elite physical attributes. he could screen the defence with them long legs and that energy like an absolute beast. hed be a dream for the CB's behind him.

sarr really is a CDM in a 4231. thats his real position and value on a football pitch. sarr and gray together would be very good.
