It's not the first time that we (and plenty of other examples) have struggled breaking down non-league opponents.
Tamworth (i think) have lost twice in twenty seven home games, and that on an artificial surface, something I doubt any of our players have ever played ninety minutes of football on. It is a totally different surface, and I am amazed that the FA allowed it to be played on one?
Many years ago I went to the Rushden v Leeds United FA Cup game where Diamonds took the then mighty Leeds ( then under Leary) to a replay, and actually (as i remember) scored first at Ellend Road in the replay. In the first game, Leeds were played off the park, partially through fear of losing (IMO) and part from playing a team with a plan and discipline.
Games on paper sometimes don't go to plan, and the "this team lies sixty places below in the Fish Finger second division, South league" doesn't really mean anything on the day.
The "Giant Killer" tag didn't come about from Man City losing to a Norwich, Brentford losing to Plymouth.
Giant killing came about through one team full of part timers, who were well drilled, played to a system and had a plan.
I know Andy Peaks (not well) but have spoken to him after many games when he played for Rushden under Ashby and later Talbot.
He isn't stupid, and could and should be managing at a higher level.
Hard game, we won, move on.
COYS!
