Player Yves Bissouma

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He's such an infuriating player. Can boss games, but then can be so fucking brainless and casual.
The second goal giveaway summed him up.
Rightfully hooked.

Bossed the game at their gaff last year. Thought he was going to lead us to glory.

Problem is - I think he's still our best option in that role until/unless Gray develops. It's the single most important position in the team. Literally cost us the game with that losing of the ball...

There’s usually some merit in your perpetual defence of this guy, but today I’m sorry there’s just no defending him.

He was abysmal for the entirety of the first half, lazy, not tracking runners, hiding from the ball, sloppy. And then what’s become a trademark for him, inexplicably trying to run past 4 players before losing the ball leading to a goal in a big game.

Look, the guy has obvious qualities as a footballer. He can be very skillful and shows flashes of brilliance, but surely you must see that he is nowhere near the mindset or temperament to be a top level midfielder? He’s too sloppy in possession, too lackadaisical and just plain idiotic at times to be a PL 6, especially in the system we are trying to play under Ange.

If he was playing for Woolwich, City, Liverpool, even Newcastle or Villa, he would have been binned off long ago.

I thought he was probably our best player first half. And I am not the only one who commented positively on him in the match thread. He then got pressed by three guys in a tight corner, lost the ball, but have a look at it again, he has no out ball, and that was the fucking story the whole first half, none of the other midfielders/forwards other than Bergval showing up for the ball. He lost possession once by the halfway line. Kulusevski 8 times, Spence 6, Bergval 5, Son 5, Sarr 2.

He definitely wasn't hiding, it was trying to help Spence out of a press that got him tapped. Sarr, Son, Kulusevski were the ones doing the most hiding as none of them want the ball under pressure. And he dug a few others out of pressure in that first half.

I keep saying this, but Bissouma is not perfect, and if we can upgrade, great, or if we change coach and his remit or the type of 6 we want changes great, but there aren't loads of players who could do what Ange is asking in that 6. He doesn't just want a destroyer/busy cunt he wants someone who can play football under pressure.

I think he makes mistakes, who doesn't on this team, but takes a disproportionate amount of flack and many others like Sarr get away with more. Others like Kulusevski even get fucking praised for being largely garbage 95% of the time. People seem to think Bissouma should be Rodri.

Well it didn't, it made it 1-1. And even then we should have dealt with it much better, but Dragusin seemed to move in slow motion and the keeper wasn't great either. And what option did Bissouma have but to try and dribble out of the press? He had no pass option.

It made the score 2-1 mate. The corner that never was led to their equaliser.

And he should have honoured Spence's 1/2 run. Or got rid backwards or protected the ball when he felt the pressure behind.

I'm with you - think he's our best only option at 6. But he fucked that moment big time tonight - his mistakes are brutally highlighted unfortunately (not least because the covering players often aren't good enough to bail him out)

What are you on about? When Biss lost the ball in midfield it lead to their second goal.
He fucked up and lost the ball cheaply.

I would give Paratici pass on that.

He was generally considered as a steal when we signed him. Just noone expected he will be completely mentally destroyed when playing for bigger club, under bigger pressure.

Indeed.

It was us or the scum.... He said he chose us cos we'd just scored CL.

That's a risk when you buy player even from mid tier Pl club. But some red flags were there, like this whole alleged rape situation

Mate; that's tenuous, ill-informed bollocks.............

1. It wasn't a rape case. (It was a lesser S.A. inquiry)
2. He wasn't the primary accused. (It was a relative and Biss was dragged in 'by association')
3. He wasn't charged with anything; let alone found guilty. (Man should be allowed for it to be in the past)
4. No relation to his on-pitch mental faculties.

Playing him as a single pivot may work on rare occasions, like the Liverpool match, but in general it's asking too much of him. Especially in a team where fullbacks march forward freely, and the other two CMs are not very good defensively either. It results in him being left on an island far too often, both in and out of possession. Only a handful amount of DMs could handle this kind of pressure regularly, and Bissouma is not one of them.

I'm still of the opinion that this team doesn't have the personnel to play a single pivot, no matter how adventurous Ange wants to be with his choices in midfield at times. Without that elite DM I think we have to resort to some kind of a double pivot, which may or may not involve Bissouma.

Gray may eventually grow into that elite DM, but in the meantime we need reinforcement in the summer at the latest. Players like Bissouma, Bentancur, and even Bergvall taking turns to play DM won't cut it.

Re: Single pivot.... He should be perfectly capable of playing in a MF 3 that also contains 2 mobile hard workers like Sarr & Bergvall.

It's not like he's having to carry the work-rate of 2 dossers like Ozil etc.

I do 💯 agree with you that Kulusevski's coughing up off the ball was as bad or worse than Bissouma's in this match and just as costly

For what it's worth, having watched it back, I will say this about the fuck up. I give him credit for being the only one to run toward Spence and give him an option out of a tight squeeze, and I see the big space of pitch to the right and get why he tried for that, but in hindsight it was the wrong choice and badly executed to get himself tapped by Partey. But as I've said, this was happening to everyone and it shouldn't have been fatal, but snowball clusterfuck of Dragusin's defending made it so.

Bergval did exactly the same prior to this and ended up diving into a foul, and he also did it against Liverpool and was lucky to to get sent off. He's 18, Bissouma 28 so less excuse but as you said, Bergval isn't the answer either right now - and I think he should be an 8 anyway.

I thought the 1 2 with Spence was the simple thing to do there and the option he took to turn inside and give Partey a good look at the ball was sloppy, your right about the rest of the play though, the combination of Porro, Sarr and Dragusin allowing Trossard an acre of space and time to pick his spot was fucking awful to watch
