We need short term fixes mate. That's called loan deals or to take a punt. Doing nothing is going backwards.

We are close to desperate and need to act accordingly
I'm not sure where I sit in the debate that you and dudu dudu are having. I guess it depends partly on what we mean by 'desperate' - bookies odds are normally at least relatively representative of reality, and you can currently get over 50/1 on us being relegated, so no one objective seriously thinks that is likely to happen... So whilst we all obviously want to improve, what specifically are we actually trying to do (or avoid)?

I ask because dudu dudu asks some very relevant questions. Assuming permanent long-term deals just to fill gaps for another 4-6 weeks makes little sense* , then we need to find loans to do a job for 4-6 weeks. There are a couple of obvious problems with that: Firstly, we would need to find players who are up for that, i.e. comfortable that they will have to push to keep a place after that, with the odds firmly stacked against them; then secondly, of course those loan players would need to come in and make an immediate impact, there is no point if it will take them 3 months to get up to speed, learn the system etc. That may indeed be possible - as already mentioned, VdV came in and was excellent immediately (though that was coming into a settled team...) - but it may be that 3 loans come in and, because they are not yet up to speed etc, they actually make us even worse (and before anyone says it, yes that is absolutely possible, terrible as our results have been this season, we've hardly ever been battered). So I do think we need to think about what is realistic and will genuinely improve us in the short term without being a noose around our necks in the long term...

* obviously if we were to sign someone who is good enough to play regularly permanently then great, but I don't think that's what the two of you are discussing.

We are desperate - but acting desperate is surely going to make things worse -

Do we really want to just buy stop gaps that, once our first teamers return will just be sat taking a wage? If not we have to consider loans but players will have to decide if that is what they want to do too.

Honestly, I have no idea what the answer is - buying 3 players to fill in until our first teamers get fit.... will that do a thing? Porro didn't settle for 6 months here - other players have come in and settled straight away like VDV but he had a fit Romero and Udogie next to him.

The only reason we're now desperate is because the summer window was so shoddy, and the recruitment team should have been working around the clock from the moment the summer window shut up til January 1st trying to identify targets to try and rectify that. We let senior pros go and only bought in one. Gray and Bergvall are great, they're going to be massive, but it's not fair to expect two 18 year olds to be the answer. Yes it's harder in January but not impossible, but sometimes the club just acts like it is impossible; the people with recruitment responsibilites need to earn their wages just like anyone else.

Yes, the injury list is chronic but even with everyone fully fit we should have been identifying targets to improve the team. We shouldn't just be looking for players to cover for injury, we should be looking for players to improve the starting XI so I'm not buying any excuse which involves our injured players coming back. We need more competition not just short term bodies.

Some January incomings take ages to settle, but not all. Deki and Bentancur may not have set the world alight in their first match if I recall but quickly became a key part of us finishing 4th that season.

Piece of art. The truth, nothing but the truth. How can anyone read that and disagree even with one small thing?
Wow!!!
What a fantastic article. Pulls no punches and states the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Every Spurs fan should be forced to read through every word. And some then need to take a cold, hard look at themselves.

Airfixx Airfixx , scarletjim scarletjim , Top_Spur Top_Spur etc... a penny for your thoughts?

Who are on course to score the secong highest amount of goals (potentially the most) since we got promoted in 1978.
It's bleeding obvious our issues are in midfield (Bent's suspension and Bissouma's piss poor consistency) and defence.
Quite the fallacy. We are not a consistent goal scoring machine who needs our CB back or a couple tweaks in midfield as you're implying. There is a tactical issue besides personnel issues. When we win we score a lot of goals; we tend to blow these specific teams apart. We have scored at least 3 goals in every single PL game we have won - no pragmatic 1-0's or 2-1's. In the 10/15 games we have failed to win, we also only registered a max of 1 goal; the exception of scoring 3 against a complacent Liverpool who took their foot off the pedal after we conceded 5 goals only makes this trend more conspicuous.

It's glaringly obvious we are a one trick pony of a team - when it works it works very well, besides that we're quite readable and play directly into certain mangers hands.

If the club is desperate to get kids as they can grow and increase in asset value then get kids that are smashing it in the PL. Get Delap and Dibling.

What it's all about, mate.

COYS, any fan with a brain.

I promise you, once the business is fully up to speed and self-sufficient, we'll plough everything and some into the team...and we will win trophies galore. Just a bit more understanding and patience, please. It's coming home. Meanwhile if you could help us by spending more, plenty more of your hard-earned money in tickets, merch, F&B and events, that'd be swell.

COYS, Daniel.

I still don't get why Spurs fans get so wound up that Spurs don't win anything. They haven't been a club that wins stuff since Football was played by middle-aged men with a Pint in one hand and a fag in the other.

Surely nobody really started supporting Spurs thinking they were backing a 'winning team'? Sure, if you were born in the area, you are stuck with them; but for anyone else, what really was your expectation?

Spurs are just one of the clubs there to make up the numbers. The owners are trying to change that and be successful but have prioritized running the club as a commercial enterprise, rather than a football team.

At least with Ange, every game is an exciting thrill ride, full of emotion - with lots of highs and lows. Imagine if you had to watch an AVB game every week. Even winning was boring.
Probably the worst post in the history of 'The Fighting Cock'

I've read the first 20% or so, think that's enough to say that:

- This article does not belong in the transfer thread, it belongs in the ENIC / Levy thread.
- It is very obviously written in a wildly biased manner from someone who has opinions similar to your own, hence obviously you would love it - that's just echo chamber, it doesn't say or prove anything new. Can you really not see that?
- Naturally I would challenge much of what it says, and the conclusions it draws, but not in a way that would add anything new to the same conversations that have already happened thousands of times between hundreds of different people in the appropriate thread for it.

There you go, my thoughts as requested. :)

PS If you really want to discuss it in detail, I'd be happy to do that with you privately where the masses won't keep injecting with irrelevance - but if I recall, I offered you a good faith private conversation about 'all things ENIC' several years ago and you agreed to it on the forum, but then blocked me from messaging you. That offer still stands, and always will. I am always willing to accept that others have different opinions to mine, and I will always respect theirs if they respect mine, therefore am always happy to exchange and discuss differing views. :)

Not saying we don't need them.... but a fix will only be a fix it the player is actually worth it and I'm struggling to think of a player we could get on loan that would actually be worth it.

Also, a punt is not a fix its a punt.

A time of hope and optimism. Makes me want to cry.

I heard when we get the stadium sponsor sorted it will be a real game changer! Not long to go now, the finishing line is in sight, the glory days are close!!!!! We will rise together !!!! :ange-clap:

Madness how we haven't signed a LCB/LB in this window. I understand buying quality attacking options is tough as proven by the RKM saga. But there is absolutely no excuse for not signing a LB/LCB. This should have been done 3 weeks ago! That along with a new GK were the two priority signings that had to happen early to give the team much needed relief. Udogie pulled his hammy and was confirmed out for 6 weeks before the window opened. Unforgivable and pure negligence how we haven't got someone in that position. The competition isn't that high for that position, if the scouting and Lange were doing their job they should have identified 3/4 targets and got one over the line weeks ago. Circus!
