The charge appears to be that complaining about the team's form is a coping mechanism. Complaining is a natural way for individuals to signal important information to others in society. Given that we are actually 15th in the table, it seems wholly appropriate for the situation.
I guess this persons preferred alternative is to feel cheerful and positive about being in 15th place. That is fine but I don't agree that is an appropriate response to that situation. Resigning oneself to under-performance seems like the very definition of a coping mechanism to me.
