The only glimmer is that I can sense a sea change. Less and less people buying into it's about getting people back. And all that childish but sincere " cup treble" talk almost totally absent. We are not winning the CC, EL, FA we will limp to about 10th, when other teams stop playing and there's no pressure on Romero Maddison Bissouma and Bentancur.

I pretty much said it first, and I'll repeat again. Daniel Levy told Spurs fans he was knocking down WHL so we could compete for the best players and trophies. He lied. He built the stadium so he was no longer forced to compete because the alternate revenue streams made base line investment in the team all that was required. He now only needs the mens team IN the premier league. Watch for renewed focus on the women's side winning which is achievable at a much lower investment level. This will be sold to the credulous as every bit as important to the club.

The appointment of vibes Ange, a man wedded to the intangible of "entertainment" is also significant in that it's now brand aligned. The antithesis of Antonio Conte. So we are not about the results it's about the style. Expectations lowered all round. "It's who we are mate" "We've got our Tottenham back".

Outside a sale of the club and new leadership focused on a coherent plan to win silverware, which would obviously mean the removal of Levy, Lange, Postecoglou, we will be stuck in this pattern. It won't get better and the backlash from those who brought in so heavily to 'Ange is building , jam tomorrow " 'Positivity' will be really nasty.

Funny thing about this for me, is that Ange is the only manager we’ve had who openly raised expectations instead of playing them down. He told the fans they could dream of winning things and that was his football was designed to do.

Conte consistently and relentlessly talked us down. We had no right to expect to compete with Man UTD, with Chelsea, with Milan or anyone really. He completely disregarded that we’d been in a CL final with the same squad and had 2 of the best forward in world football.

If Levy really wanted to lower expectations, he should have kept Conte on,

I actually wonder if Ange telling Spurs fans to really believe is part of the reason for such a heavy slap back into our place and every time anyone one of us maintains even the slightest bit of belief, BANG! Have another slap, there’s another key player injured.

On another spurs forum I’m on the majority are still unbelievably backing him. One said “I hope we keep him as his replacement will just end up throwing the europa league.” It’s full of posts saying no manager would do better with our injuries. Laughable really.

The mere fact that he was out doing the press rounds today says he's going to be in charge for Sunday.

Not sure what else a guy needs to do to get the sack. Getting done by Liverpool away is one thing, but if you're getting rolled over by Leicester, Ipswich and the like that's another. He's just getting out-managed by everyone. Our good results against City and Utd came at a time both were in different stages of freefall.
So all this is Pep's wife's fault?
:gallashmm:

Full week between Villa in the cup and United in the league.
Then another full week before Ipswich away.

Probably the most breathing room we've had for months.

But in hindsight and I get that's twenty twenty it makes sense. Because Conte (self serving egotistical that he was) was telling the truth. Conte has climbed this mountain Rich he knows what is required, and he knew Levy would not provide it. Ange was sincere that's why it's been so painful for him, it's why he CANT ACCEPT REALITY. Those first 10 games were terrible for him because they reaffirmed his faith in a system that had never failed him. The air on this mountain is too rareified for him.

His tenure will hopefully serve as a lesson moving forward by reducing the appeal of the infinite monkey theorem , also known as the Klopp/Arteta/SAF argument, based on the notion that with enough time any manager will turn into gold. Managers don't deserve infinite amount of support in the form of money, time and personnel until they can be judged. It's totally alright, in fact quite astute, to search for possible red flags from the get go. It's fine to sack a manager early in his tenure (< 1 year) if there are clear indicators that he's not up to the task. The scarecrow that is "managerial-merry-go-round" is by itself not a valid reason to keep an incompetent manager in charge for years. So on and so forth. That's the only positive I can come up with from this experiment.

I wouldn't count on it though, as for whatever reason football fans are prone to get emotionally attached to managers in a way that they do not get attached to players.

I've been arguing this since before Klopp/Pep or Arteta rocked up in the PL mate.

Fergie was a different breed. He came to united with the achievement of winning a Scottish league title with a team that wasn't Celtic or Rangers.

Since 1966, the title has been won by a team other than those 2 only 3 times.
And two of those were Fergies Aberdeen.

And nobody since has won it other than the big 2.

Dundee were the 3rd. Aberdeen beat them 5-1, 3-0 that season. Only Rangere and Celtic beat them other than that.

You cannot say anyone else has achieved that and earned time.

AND Fergies United were generally on the up before a poor league season......where he won a cup.

If people haven’t changed their minds after Everton or Leicester you thought At Liverpool would be the dagger ?

I wish it was that positive.

I'm more convinced than ever that Levy is in the cult or has been scared to sack a coach in all the cups.

Could be down to one cup and no hope by Sunday night.
