Whether or not you agree with the strategy, part of buying 5 young players for £20m rather than a Declan Rice for £100m, is you’re working on the basis that 1 or 2 will be a dud that you get nowt back from, 1 or 2 Aren’t successful but you make your money back and the other develop to be £50m+ players - leaving you “financially” up.
If you look at our recruitment over the last 10 years or so we’ve enough examples of the latter* (Walker, Bale, Dele, now maybe Bergvall etc) to see why ENIC are on board with the strategy.
