Anyone seen this?

Pleased that the cretin thought that by losing Madders and Bergvall it would make sense to play Kulu with a bunch of players who were never going to make the starting eleven at the EL Final.

If this doesn't put the end to his time with us nothing will.

Alternative universe - Kulu is assigned a padded cell for a fortnight and has to eat all his meals off a paper plate with his hands so he can’t hurt himself. Starts the final. Plays like shite.

“Stupid fat cunt should’ve known he’d not be match fit!!!”

Ange, for many good reasons, cannot win right now.

I'd love them to go back to the old format, even for a season, just to see what happens. IIRC it was considered pretty close in prestige between the UEFA and CWC. There wasn't actually all that much between them in how hard they were to win, though as explained previously, UEFA had more strong teams and so was the strongest, but not the most prestigous, of the three.

A big change of course, and a sad one tbh, is the huge concentration of resources and strength in fewer teams these days vs back then. There were literally dozens of strong teams back then, and a well coached side with a great manager could come in and do very well or even win one of these three tournaments.
Unlike now, where a poorly coached team with a shit manager might win it...

I think on this it's a tad harsh.

Kulusevski has been really average since returning from injury. He also did need game-time.

Sometimes you just get injured if you do and damned if you don't.

Our injuries this season must rank as historic.

Fair. I am more positive on the playing side that you. I think we are 2-3 elite players away from a really decent top 5 squad. We will never win the league with Levy, so that's about as good (plus cups) as we can expect.
It's the general consensus, I do think most if not all the current squad are better than they are showing in the current shambles, and I'm not vehemently for any of them being moved on.

It seems inevitable that there will be a good amount of movement though, and so the point remains, this final neither seems like a glorious last hurrah, or a glorious beginning of something great.

I'd take a half fit Kulu for forty five minutes over Sarr in midfield to be honest.

We need 100% players who are fit. I understand, but I think this is different.

If Sarr starts, then he has nothing to fear, because it's a final. It's not about being picked for the next game but giving his all for this match, and he has shown (on occasion) that he has the dynamism and athleticism that can help us, and cause trouble to the opposition. Its about confidence is my point.

Kulusevski is a loss but his form hasn't been anything to write home about.

And mate, you ain't got a choice!!

I used to find it daft that back in the day winning the more prestigious FA Cup got you into the less prestigious Cup Winners Cup, whilst winning the less prestigious League Cup got you into the more prestigious Uefa Cup...

Both the European competitions were much more prestigious back then, before the CL became the be all and end all. I wonder, is it really more profitable financially to have one golden goose and two afterthought trophies, over three very prestigious ones?

I mean I'm sure it must be, it wouldn't be very in character for Uefa to be leaving money on the table, I just can't really fathom the logic of it.
Personally I always enjoyed the Cup Winners' Cup more than the old UEFA Cup.

You say you're just talking facts but the truth is that when we won the Cup Winners' Cup in 1963 there were only 16 teams in the whole competition - three two-legged knock-out games and a final in Rotterdam, 7 games in total.

We beat Rangers, Slovan Bratislava and OFK Belgrade to meet Atleti in the final.

Farmers' Leaguetastic!
Sorry old timer, I meant in the 80s & 90s, not the Middle Age.

I'm not overly sure he has the brain capacity to feel fear anyway tbh, has a bit of the Forrest Gump's about him...

But I can't quite get on board with your logic, might get the yips in PL because he's worried about starting Fulham away, but he'll be fine in a European Final?

If any of them are prone to nerves then they'll be bricking it for a final. Will show a lot about their mental toughness this game.

For some reason I'd expect Porro, Romero, VDV, Bentancur to be unphased.

Tel will be unphased I reckon, but no telling whether that means anything will actually come off for him.

Vicario and Bissouma will be difficult to tell as they can drop a clanger in the most meaningless of games, so whether it's down to big occasion pressure or just business as usual who knows.

Sarr will just run around a lot smiling, who knows what the hamster running on a wheel inside his head will make of it all.

Udogie will either be a beast or he'll twat it in his own top corner for no apparent reason. No in between.

Son will cry one way or another.

Brilliant. You know your onions mate.

It would be the greatest gift if Son found one reminder of his old best. That would take us to glory without a doubt.

My gut feeling is Richarlison as the man. No idea why and that may change.

Assuming Son is good to go he will sart.

I would imagine Son/Solanke/Johnson at the front.

Midfield will be a toss up depending on how much Ange has been drinking.

Bentancur / Bissouma / Sarr

Udogie / Micky / Romero / Porro

Vicario

I can't see any other permutation to start the game assuming everyone is fit.

Possible forty five minutes for Son at Villa.

If he had of played like absolute shite in the final due to being massively off the pace of the game everyone would be shouting “he needed minutes to get match fit. FFS ANGE!!”

So this might yet be Ange’s moment to make a difference in players and tactics.

Or just like when we lost Gazza in 91 the gods sent us Des Walkers knee. Fate/Luck will decide it.

Week from now we will know one way or the other.
