and we needed to win a trophy so he put all his eggs into the European basket
Yes, I can imagine it, because it's not difficult to achieve, you're talking about professionals who are paid tens or hundreds of thousands of pounds a week to do their job, and they will do their job or fuck off elsewhere in the summer window. Not to mention not being funny but this squad just finished 17th, you can count on one hand the number of players in this team that you would call "indispensable".
I massively feared that sentiment and emotion would get in the way of cold, hard logic when it came to this decision post-final, looks like we'll be back in this boat in November or so if the general fan sentiment is anything to go on...
Everyone is a cup team except City and Liverpool nowdaysSo he gets a 2 million pound bonus for winning the Europa.
Now, if he gets sacked, its rumored another 5 million. Poor bastard if that happens to him....
Then Levy has to pay someone at least that, with higher expectations for him, and a real risk of failure.
Let's get real here: Levy will not buy ready-made league-winning players for next season, so no, we're not winning the league next season even with Ancelotti or Guardiola. So realistically we're a cup team.
Just as well because I'm nearly certain Postecoglou personally prioritizes the Champions League over any other club trophy.
He tried to win the Caraboa Cup but we couldn't beat Liverpool over the two legs. There's no point pretending otherwise like he only wanted the Europa League. If we'd have met Liverpool in the Europa League we most likely wouldn't have won that either.
Excellent points that I had not considered.Professionalism and buy in aren’t the same thing.
Just ask Nuno who never got buy in from older and more experienced veteran players at Spurs than this squad.
You try and hire any of those guys after this it would be a disaster and they’d be gone before you can blink. We’d be right back to being a banter club.
We are 17th. It’s unacceptable and Ange needs to wear that as much as his EL winners medal but let that be the uniting force that Unites this squad to prove everyone wrong in the league next season.
After winning the EL together this season, they will believe anything is possible. You hire Iraola, Frank or Silva, you are telling them to believe that winning things is over now and we really believe we are an upper middle table club who had a freak trophy. Maybe not what you think it says but that’s how the players will see it
I would argue that conversely keeping him on after finishing 17th in quantifiably our worst ever campaign since the First Division became the Premier League sends a message loud and clear that we are not a serious club that wants to build towards sustained success and are more than happy to essentially "do a favour" to a manager because he finally ended our trophy drought and let us give it back to rival fans for once. You don't think that those players also have it in their mind that they've been an absolute laughing stock for most of the season and had multiple clashes with their own fans, dogs abuse thrown at them all season, and it is in no small part down to the manager?Professionalism and buy in aren’t the same thing.

Agreed. The club needs to get him some goalscorers and difference makers in the summer and keep the vibes going.Professionalism and buy in aren’t the same thing.

Ironically, the room where he sits watching CCTV screens has no CCTV itself so it wouldn't surprise me.Last time this little cockroach Deuterz posted in the OMT was half hour into the final, we scored 10 mins later and he hasn't been since, not even anything post match, how happy he is or how proud he is...just a whole load of nothing
Just keeps exposing himself doesn't he, he's never been truly Spurs.

After finishing 17th in the league under this manager, yes, anything is possible next season, including relegation...
The poster that I replied to said that he (Postecoglou) put all his eggs into the European basket.I don't think he's said that he *only* wanted to win the Europa League, only that when it became obvious that the league was done, he focused like a laser on it, because he felt it was winnable. He was right.
What players specifically? Most of them have been at the club for five minutes. I really think you are massively, massively overattributing the importance of this cup win to the players because of the importance it held for us as fans. Our average squad age is like 23, many of our players are U21s, do you really think they've won the Europa and thought "this is it, I've hit the pinnacle, this is as elite coaching as I'll ever get and this manager is the best chance I have at being a raging success"? I can promise you they don't. The team will move on.I think those players absolutely love that manager and now they’ve done the impossible and won a major trophy together, they will believe they can prove to everyone that this season in the league wasn’t who they really are.
They will be driven to prove that in the league next Year.
Any evidence?explain Celtic fans coming on here November 2023 saying "injuries mate its waht he does". And that's in a league where Celtic can coast 90% of the games. Maybe you wernt on the board at the time?
EPL, he's suicide.
Yes I think we have. Ange has not got them performing
So according to your logic winning the EL made Spurs a bigger club than Real M., Barca, Man City, Bayern M. because those clubs failed to win the CL.Oh my bad I always thought top clubs were judged on winning stuff, my bad.
Do you think anyone would respect Real if they finished CL runners up 15 times and constantly failed at the last hurdle, do you think anyone would still look at them as a European giant or a top European side?
What the fuck are we even doing here?![]()
