Manager Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I like Frank but you can't sack Ange for him now, just sends out all the wrong kind of messages to the players and from the club...Glasner is the guy you go and get if you're going down that route.

Someone like Romero isn't sticking around for Thomas Frank, let's be real.

Go big or go home, if we're gonna move onto the next chapter then you're gonna have to go with a manager with something substantial behind him.

I think the squad being behind him still is the real driving factor in keeping him tbh.

Also, like I said, sacking a man who just won the club a major European trophy would make the club look ridiculous and small time.

If he starts the season and continues the shit form in the league everyone will think the sacking is justified, regardless of the trophy being won.

Exactly

And it’s not like you weren’t Ange out staunch.

You build the squad ruthlessly and then find another coach to fit it if Ange needs to go next season.

It’s a pretty easy decision, logically.

Nothing like Ten Hag.

Ten Hag left them saddled with old, high wage donkeys they still can’t shift.

This squad isn’t being built for Ange and there are good v pieces whoever the coach is.

There were probably a load of better options for United to choose from than we have right now. Xavi is probably the only one on our list who could go into that squad and look them in the eye now. You can’t send any of the PL targets into that squad now.

And let’s be real here, United got much worse AFTET sacking Ten Hag so that narrative is pretty much dead anyway.

Ange with his first choice defence is top 4 PPG. If you recruit the depth at CB so we aren’t so fragile when we lose them, it’s not like that wouldn’t benefit the next coach if you end up sacking him anyway.

Loads like Ten Haag.

They got worse due to a wrong choice, Ten Haag still isn’t a good coach and they weren’t improving as a team. A cup win doesn’t equate to coaching progress is the whole point.

Oh no not the first choice defence top 4 PPG argument. Meaningless. Small limited sample size.

We are going to continue to be shit under this guy because the coaching sucks. We played utter shite football in that final. Imagine this guy trying to deal with CL mid-week and league, he couldn’t handle Europa League with league games FFS.

Romero doesn’t give a shit about Glasner either. We just won the biggest thing Glasner ever won.

Keeping the manager who won a EL despite him being 17th and the team being terrible for ages would be small time.

If the squad is behind him they should’ve turned up every week for the league.

So Amorim was the wrong coach?

How you know we wouldn’t choose the wrong coach?

The sample size is big enough with the first choice defense now tbh. As big as you will get to analyze at this level

Glasner won it with like a quarter of the budget and then won an FA cup against numerous better teams than we beat in the EL with Crystal Palace btw.

And his team didn’t tank a league. And he schooled Ange home and away.

Doesn’t matter,

Glasner isn’t going to take you up a level from here. He’s a sideways step who only really works with a strong 11 and very limited rotation. Doesn’t really have a reputation for working with young players and is also going to cost half a player to get out of Palace,

Squad isn’t built for Glasner either. It would be a flip flop.

Unless we are talking Klopp, Xavi, or another bigger name, you are taking a crazy risk to move now. Rational decision makers don’t take risks like that.

Maybe we need to just stick to the plan

In all seriousness, there was the leak/itk/reports at the time that we didn't want Ten Hag because he was a poor communicator and had the personality of a potato. This meant that he fell out with loads of players and turned the fans against him

One thing that we can say is totally different is that Ange seems to have more charisma that has the squad backing him to the hilt. It could be a huge gamble to get rid of him if it ended up alienating/pissing off the entire squad (see romero's comments earlier this season or last season)

Edit: worth noting that United have gone massively backwards since they sacked ETH, and (IMO) hugely backwards since they sacked Solskjaer. It's not unheard of for a manager to survive a 'dip' and go on to recover very well (arteta had this, though you might argue he's not won anything lately, they've finished 2nd a few times to imply progress)

I’m still firmly in the Ange out camp as things stand but with the important caveat that after delivering such a significant victory for the club, he deserves the chance to change minds, including mine.

I try to approach everything with a sense of openness; nothing in life should be completely rigid or immune to reconsideration.

And as you rightly point out, the logical move is to keep him on for the start of next season. That way, he’s fairly rewarded for his success and given the platform to prove that it wasn’t a one-off.

If he turns it around, great. If not, then parting ways becomes a far easier decision and one that doesn’t leave the club open to ridicule and risk derailing the motivation for more success, even with a Europa League trophy on the shelf, no one could reasonably argue against his sacking if the league form continues the way it has.

He’s not sideways, Glasner is a better coach than him.

Crazy risk lol. We finished 17th, the football is shite and hasn’t improved. What risk? Ange isn’t winning a champions league next season, there’s no easy out to focus on.

You guys talk like we’re really risking upsetting our perfect balance here. It’s been diabolical for ages, the next coach would have to be truly shocking to be worse than 17th.

We did it with Conte and got 4th. 🤷‍♀️
Conte is a genuine world class manager massively under appreciated by this fanbase, there’s just not another manager out there of his level available. He also came in with us having to play only 2 games in europe (conference league) after we were given a loss to send us out when we couldn’t field a team due to Covid.

Whoever comes in will not be of contes level, will also have champions league football to contest with and no pre season to work with the team. Think it could really be 1 step forward 2 steps back if we end up having to sack ange 10 games into next season.

Just seems like such an unnecessary gamble made out of pure emotion not logic to keep him with the view of we just get someone else in if he starts the season badly.

That's a very strange hug. They definitely have had some run ins.

Because we’ve just won a cup and fans are mostly emotional idiots who are blinded by it and have now forgotten a year and a half of shite because we beat 16th in a final.

I hope and trust the club are not as emotional or idiotic. Paratici especially. Not a huge fan of him but he is ruthless and will look at the facts. This is not a man to lead us to consistent results or success at the top level of the sport.

We face our Ten Haag, Di Matteo moment - a poor coach happening upon a cup. We can make the same mistake or go and get a proper coach in. Or continue the year and a half of absolutely garbage and our worst finish in forever.

Di Matteo masterminded his club to their first ever CL title against Barcelona and Bayern Munich after masterminding an FA cup win + also got them up the league. By the reasons people give to keep Ange he’s a genius. That achievement dwarves Ange’s.
No achievement by Chelsea 'dwarfs' our achievement you fucking bellend...
