I've similar thoughts about Jack Grealish. Would prefer to see us just go and get Eze instead! This idea of picking up scraps from big clubs rarely works out. Sterling, Casemiro, Varane, De Ligt, Ugarte. Loads of recent examples. Better off trying to sign the up and coming star and not the has been.

Ange has specifically said we need to add experience.

We already have enough potential.

Sure if you can find a Doue who is very young but already elite then great but we don't need another Odobert/Tel/Dibling.

Sane on a free would be a massive upgrade. We paid Werner 200k ffs.

Also think you're being very generous to Son there. He's donezo.

We pay Werner £185k over 18 months though

Sane is already on £250k a week, we're not gonna be able to sustain that over 5 years especially for a player who's on his way down and is looking for a last payday

Possibly but I don't think Sane has been shooting the lights out at Bayern. If they are happy to lose him on a free then whats to say he isn't donezo too.

I'd also argue that prime Son is a better player than prime Sane. So if there was a chance of one of them rediscovering form then I'd rather bet on Son.
 
I'm still not accepting fully that Son is done.

I think part of his decline is down to the silly systems he has been forced to play in for two years. Maybe not. Under a new manager though I would back him to play his best football since Conte was around if we deploy him correctly.

The pace has definitely diminished (as demonstrated when he was easily caught in the final on the break), but he’d still be an awesome finisher in a different system.

You would need a 352 with him as the second striker or maybe a Poch style 4231 where he operates like Dele off the front man. He is a great finisher but he can’t do wing anymore and he isn’t strong enough to be a CF.

Issue is we have 3 players who all would suit a Dele Alli role (Son, Tel and Johnson) but we don’t have that role in the system.
 
More I think about this squad more I think it’s biggest issue is balance.

Son/Tel/Johnson - all look dangerous in and around the box but I don’t think any of them are elite for the wing. They all look like just off the striker would be the best role.

Porro/Spence/Udogie - all would benefit in a wing back system or simply not being inverted.

Bentancur/Bergvall/Bissouma - Bissouma is our only natural 6 and he is way too inconsistent. Bergvall still looks positionally naive there and Bentancur isn’t a 6.

VDV - our only left side CB, need one more. Next season we will have Dragusin, Vuskovic, Danso and if he stays Romero for the right and just VDV to fit the left.

Odobert/Moore/Tel - all talented but too young to know if they will be our answer. Annoyingly Moore who to me looks the most talented of the group is the least physically ready which is expected for a 17 year old.

Maddison/VDV/Romero - our most important players are quite injury prone.

If we had a more pragmatic manager I think we would be playing

Porro Bergvall Bissouma Maddison Udogie
Son Solanke
