Player Rodrigo Bentancur

I dont like that it seems like the players are dictating the Ange is staying. If they decide he's staying then fine but not because the players seem to be putting pressure on them to come to this decision.
Its hard to go against the players though. I am not convinced about Ange one bit. Think its pretty likely we will end up sacking him half way through next season if we keep him which is the worst case scenario for everyone.

But it is quite incredible the backing he is getting from the players. They have almost all gone out of their way to let the media know how much they want Ange to stay. I think its almost a bigger gamble to sack him now. New manager would have a very tough job getting the same level of support!

I agree with what you're saying, I just do not like the fact that they appear to hold so much power.

I'll put this down to a backroom leadership that lacks a dominant figure. We all saw Levy in all or nothing, he is good at his overall job but he isn't some sort of dominant presence. Same for Lange, and Scott Munn barely seems to exist. Ange has been allowed to be that dominant figure behind the scenes and he has the players charmed. Of course they are going to go to bat for him.

I know that you aren't particularly fond of Paratici, but one bonus in him coming back in is that he is not going to allow the inmates to run the asylum.

Fairs but no-one's been good enough really, tells you more about the coaching if anything.

He does always ball out for his country so there's something there, agreed we need better though.
Even at his best he hasn't shown enough IMO, I'd say he'd be fine as a bench/rotation option but what does he really offer from the bench? You don't bring him on to chase a game and you don't bring him on to see one out either. If he doesn't start he doesn't get minutes so should be shifted on.
National form is not terribly relevant to club form, GLC is an important part of the Argentina setup and though he missed out on the WC he has won 2 Copa Americas with them, absolutely never good enough for us though.

Why would you commit the rest of your career to a club when you don’t know if you’re in the managers plans

For all the talk of how we are lagging in terms of wages, we still pay exceptionally well in the grand scheme of things.

Rodrigo may value a steady paycheck and the ability to play himself into whoever manages us plans, than to take a gamble at a new club.

His best was under Conte before his injury, he's one of the reasons he got top 4 and went on that run, was legit one of the best DM's in the league over that period.

Regardless of all that, should we get a better 6 I literally see no downside if he's a backup, but knowing this club we won't be bringing anyone in who is better than him so we're just going to have to accept him being our 6 for the meantime...put it this way I'd rather him than Bissouma.

Bentancur was brilliant when first signed under Conte. It was actually his injury in the 22/23 season that derailed the season and led to Conte getting sacked.

His form has been patchy to say the least this season but this has been the case with all our midfielders. He's been more consistent than Sarr and Bissouma anyway!

I'd love to see us sign Baleba/Wharton to play in the 6 next year and upgrade on Bentancur in that 6 position. But Bentancur was at his best for Conte when he was playing further forward so I can still see him being a very useful player for us going forward.

I don't get the captain comment at all though. That made no sense
