Management Thomas Frank

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Exactly, they went for Maresca instead.

I'd rather we went for a younger manager with an interest in playing attacking football BUT not kamikaze style like Ange.

Iraola would've been high on my list.

They went for Maresca because they wanted a manager who is possession focused.

Frank is an all rounder, he isn't wedded to a philosophy and changes his setup based on opponent, something that our players will benefit from IMO.

Iraola is a funny one, good manager but his injury record was nearly as bad as Ange's and he was only playing one game a week!

If Levy could make a manager in a lab, it would probably be Thomas Frank.

- has never managed at a club even near the level of Spurs so will jump at the chance to join us.
- will not rock the boat or complain about lack of spending.
- he’s used to working on a shoestring budget and getting a tune out of mediocre players.
- is tactically flexible so it won’t require Levy to need to try (and likely fail) to purchase players tailor made for his system as was the case with the likes of Conte and Ange.
- he’s coming in when we’ve just finished 17th so even if he just gets us back into the top 10 it will be seen as a success.

I’m sure he’s a decent coach and will undoubtedly steady the ship to a certain degree, but these Spurs fans coming out proclaiming he’s some kind of messiah/tactical genius and that we “finally have a actual coach” etc are going to be bitterly disappointed I feel.

Let us not forget that he got done twice by Ange last season, including a 0-2 defeat at home when our form was absolutely wretched, they had their full strength side and we had Davies and Gray at centre back…
I agree withmost of that, but I do not think that getting us back into the top ten will be seen as a success.

Getting CL killed any chance of Iraola IMO. His Bournemouth squad got almost as many injuries as Ange and were burned out by March. No way would we have handled 50+ games with our squad.
i don't think we'll go with a 3 atb manager again. taking a technical player off for an extra center back and relying on wingbacks for the bulk of the creativity was never a good fit for the club. i want to play with a creative 10 again

Absolute scenes when Frank sets us up 3-5-2 against PSG.

On the one hand I am not going to lose sleep over the tactical judgments of Todd Boehly.

But on the other hand, it does seem to me that Frank has received some skepticism about how his culture-building would fare under brighter lights at a larger organization with richer, more famous players. That worry I do share.

I do Kind of get where your coming from, but I think there is more to it then that, they were the 5th Highest Scorers last season in the league , and they have something like the 17th Highest spend?
I guess the proof in the pudding will be to see who we get in this window, if its just another couple of young players then yeah Levy is just going to want to spend the bare minimum and aim for Top 5-7 - however if we go out and buy some experienced older players then I might actually start to get excited.

Football fans....
Inevitably there will be a few who will be sitting like vultures waiting for Frank's first slip-up and then they will pounce.
But I think from the off we will see a marked improvement (win, lose or draw) in the way we approach and manage games and lets be honest, after Ange-Ball, that won't be hard!
So there's no doubt the majority will get behind TF and combined we just might get a bit of pride back in the weekly bread and butter of The EPL and start to look forward to and getting excited about Saturday's again.
There's a forum on here, AMBITION. This is my ambition for 25/26.

I was pretty underwhelmed by Ange's appointment as well so definitely not an Ange-bois as you call it.

Really? Woolwich? Chavs? Citeh lol? I believe none of those clubs would go for Frank.
Chavs went for Potter , pretty much the same , granted it didn't work out & The Gooners literally went for the guy who put the comnes out for Pep - they are no barometer in who we get! :levylol:

City are another world, not sure who they get after Pep but it would be someone who is a proven winner every where he has gone, wait a minute....... :ange-arms:

Semantics but if we are 5th richest there can only be 4 richer than us, no?

I think you're preparing yourself for failure to make yourself feel better when Frank fails to build on that night in Bilbao. If a halfwit like Ange can do it then a tactical mastermind with philosophy and pragmatism and excellent man management skills should be able to easily win something.
You have to give Levy that he's faster than RM, Barcelona, Milan, Inter, Bayern, Pool, City, Woolwich and the rest.

Not implying you're an Ange-bois, but do you think Ange would be hired by rival clubs? The notion is pretty LOL tbh. I don't think Ange will be hired by another PL club, never mind a top 6 PL club. Frank would absolutely be in the mix for Top 6 jobs.
No big club would have hired Ange when we did. Ange was brought in for style of play and because he isn't the type to speak out against the board.

Bringing a club like Brentford up from a lower league and making them steady in the top flight is one of the best qualifications a manager could have. It shows that not only can you develop players but that you can achieve stable gains. They were able to stand up to some of the biggest clubs while always outgunned, the common thread from all other managers is respect for the way Brentford was always challenging them.

Ange can't do any of that. He knows one thing that worked against small clubs with a fraction of his net spend (shouldn't most systems work under those circumstances?). When that thing didn't work here, he had no answers.

And the enjoyable play style thing wasn't even true, we scored loads of goals against Everton and relegation teams but were a terrible watch most of the time, often struggling to even get shots on goal.

Frank has never had the resources a big club could afford him, so we can't say what he would do with it. No we won't spend what Citeh will spend but he'll certainly be having more than he's had. We should expect something above 10th in the immediate term as he's done that well with less.

IMO Frank is several levels above Arteta as a coach.

By rights Arteta should still be an assistant learning the ropes. If he was a legit elite player like Xavi, Zidane, or Xabi Alonso then you could justify him making the jump that early but he wasn’t.

The good thing is m for us any way - if they had a better manager they would have won something last 5 or so years

It wouldn't surprise me. I think the PL and football clubs in general are dumb enough to keep employing coaches based on rep/name.

Expect THAT stat to change them!

Proof positive that they always try harder against US than the other 18 clubs!

Arse & Liverpool away were/are even worse....

Ah, maybe it IS our fault after all!!

This is why, IMO, it's harder for London clubs to win the PL than others - more local derbies.

I can see we’re building up a nice legend around Thomas. Our latest saviour. Rolling out all the stats like how’s he’s never lost to Tamworth etc…

Just stating facts. Any long suffering Spurs fan is well aware of our atrocious record at Stamford Bridge.

I think I gave up on it fully two years ago.. He was free. We had a vacancy. In every interview with the English press, he'd mention that he loved the club and fans, and wanted to come back one day.. And we didn't do it then, when it felt like the obvious time.. Maybe for the best. Looking at him since, I think we got his peak years, I'm sad to say.
