MGW has to kick up a fuss if this is to start moving.

Or just turn down their contract offer

Which isn’t a hard decision. No matter what they offer him, he knows he can’t trust that contract because Marinakis won’t respect anything in it unless it suits him.

Basically anyone signing a contract with Marinakis now knows that contract means nothing and the man will consider you a possession once you sign.

Really hope it will go through fast. Otherwise - it will be 2nd longest thread at TFC which resulted in nothing for the club, right after Summer Transfer Window 2018 thread :O

Yep, only the player can get this moving and he was not willing to pull the first lever of not turning up to pre season training. Be interesting to see what he does if Forest offer him a new contract in or around what we reportedly offered him. Either way, hope this doesn't drag on and he ends up staying at Forest and we are left scrambling around at 6pm on 1st September trying to sign Tom Cairney on loan.

It’s Already got so boring I’m past caring.

If what’s been reported is true, then MGW has to leave Forest and we get the player,

But because we know so much of what’s reported is bullshit and entertainment, the only question I find myself asking anymore is: Is this still interesting?

And it really isn’t anymore. I’d be interested if we signed him. If we don’t I couldn’t care less anymore but we should definitely be doing more in the transfer market outside this nonsense,

Well no this ain’t the case. In any used marketplace goods are worth what the buyer is willing to pay. If someone else really wants him they will pay more because the release clause is considered below his actual value.

But someone needs to actually want him and there doesn’t appear to be any noise around anyone else. Unless he’s on teams lists as second choice and a deal becomes possible because something else falls through.

So for now, Forest delay. Make a lot of noise and hope a buyer comes knocking.
How often to you go on ebay and pay more than the buy it now price?

Nobody will give them more than the release clause because nobody has to, someone could haggle at below that price, but there's no reason for anyone to go above it.

Their issue so far doesn't seem to be that the clause is invalid, it's that they feel we've gone about the process in an underhand way and so are holding things up.

They can't even stop us buying him ultimately, but who knows how long a legal process will take for that.

Just thinking logically here. For the move to go ahead does marinakis have to back down and does that seem likely? Is there a world where he’s sold to us and marinakis can’t do anything about it?!
I don't think so, if we didn't ask for permission to speak to him. I think it hinges on that?

The rest is all fluff.

My guess is the clause will be looked at by an independent lawyer who will be the mediator. Their conclusion will decide whether the clause is legit and whether there is anything Forest can do.
That's IF we don't back off.
We will make an enemy for life if we don't, but then, who cares, no one likes us anyway.

I'm not sure it hurts us at all.

He'll be a Spurs player come the new season and it will cost us the reasonable sum of £60 million.

I'll take any bet that says otherwise, panty soilers.

Definitely, it's important to bear in mind that we generally don't hear too much in advance these days, but we haven't signed anyone else in the meantime, and whilst I think it's fine if we want to put all our eggs in the MGW basket as far as midfield targets go for now, there are still other areas of weakness that we should be addressing in parallel.

Always feels that Spurs do these things one thing at a time, and if and when the MGW deal is concluded one way or the other, we have to start another arduous weeks long process of addressing the next issue in line.

Nah. Lemonade.

I'm a tryin' a' give him up
But it's one a' those nights

Hopefully there's no noise from any other club because they are in solidarity with spurs, no club wants there to be issues and legal problems around approaching clubs for players with release clauses, just causes headaches for all concerned. It's just the big spoilt baby isn't getting what he wants and is having a wee tantrum, someone needs to give him a bowl of ice cream or something to calm him down.
Any other club watching on will be faced with the task of dealing with Marinakis, who has shown himself to be a pain in the ass, enticing MGW himself who has already committed himself to Spurs (unknown how deadset he is on that), on top of the messy prospect of getting involved in all this from an optics perspective.

It's not out of the question, but there has been no noise at all in the media so far so it doesn't look too much of a concern as yet.
