Player James Maddison

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Can't believe how much of a 360° I've experienced re how I feel about Madders. I thought he was a right dipstick before he joined us.
I hope he can stay fit this season, as we need his creativity to make things happen. Getting better protection from refs might help!
I feel I’m alone on this, and hope to be proven wrong, but I don’t think Maddison will ever meet our expectations. Whatever he can do, he doesn’t do enough of it.

Says the right things now but I also remember (not verbatim, admittedly) his ā€œI fucking hate Spursā€ tweet.

I want to like him and want him to succeed but I don’t think he’ll ever be peak-Eriksen, which I think is his expected bench mark.

I completely understand your POV, I just feel that our attacking play is more attractive to watch when he's on it.

Agreed.

A number 10 (or however the role is now defined as) for those of us of a certain age (no idea whether you come into that category, Mrs P) also has the historical (and unfair) comparison with Hoddle, let alone more recent incumbents. For me it's my favourite position on a pitch - the controller, the quarter-back who is the main (but not sole) orchestrator, defines what we are about, sees things that others don't, and requires a different level of footballing intelligence. I hope Maddison can get to that place for us.

You're either new on here (I know you're not!) or being very kind in asking if I remember Hod, I remember his debut!
Glen was a one-off, no-one comes even close to what he could for as long as he did. I suppose a fairer comparison would be Eriksen, at his best. IIRC, someone described him as the cocktail stick that blended all the ingredients perfectly. In Madders defence, he hasn't got Kane and Dele in front of him.

And we’ll see a much improved player in Madd under Frank I’m sure!

Nailed it here, I think on his day he can be "World Class" but last season it was few and far between and when he is not on it he is shite and as soon as he got a good bit of form he would be injured, still i'm hoping under TF he can stay fit next season as if we can get Maddison playing close to his best we will be a good team to watch.

The worry for me is if he is out of form or injured, who is the creative spark in the team?

I don’t mind Deki in the middle but ā€˜don’t mind’ isn’t really a good enough alternative. Saying that, did TF have a proper number 10 at Brentford other than, ironically, Eriksen post-recovery?

Consistency is key. I question his mentality but no question on his day he's our best midfielder and nobody else in that team is capable of doing what he can do.

Looked like one of those ones were it's an acl or another type that's long term

Really non fussed about it, good player but pointless to figure him into your plans as he's always injured for long spells every season.

Good time now for the club to replace him

Oh no! Wtf happened? Been out for dinner and a show and just seen he was on for all of 10 minutes! FFS! The one player we couldn't afford to lose 😭

Sadly for Maddison, and us of course, I think his body is all but fcuked at this level.

He has had a lot of injuries, and they must wear the body down, to the point where any kind of stress just seems to be exacerbated. Very similar to Richarlison, where I think the issue of quality has become secondary to his lack of being able to trust his body.

Hopefully for Maddison, the injury is not as bad as it appears, but I would take him out of the equation for the season ahead.

The football Gods deceived us with the Europa win. They are still angry about something
