Player Jamie Donley

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Donley could have scored I think, but chose to pass to Thomas is an unmarked position who scored.

But excellent work by Donley to get the ball outside the area, get into a position that gk had no choice other than to try to move towards Donley ..... opening up and allowing a great pass to the unmarked Thomas.

Very encouraging that Donley seeming to bridge the gap up to Championship level with no difficulty.
He was only on for 20 mins. Let him play a few games , see how he goes. A great pass was a square pass of about 20 yds to a player standing on his own in front of goal. No doubt he’s got a good manager in Robins.

I would like to be proven wrong, but he will likely be poached elsewhere by bigger teams and leave us to play for them if he continues to impress, which he will, before we finally decide to retain him in our first team.

The moment he still played as LB in our pre season, again, under Frank, I knew he will be wasted here.

When we have Brennan, Odobert, Tel, Sarr, Bergvall, Gray in our first team and people still think Donley has no place in the squad without yet given more opportunities to even prove he can make it, there is no point.

He’s going to be 21 in a few months. Do you think he’s proved himself like any of those other players you have mentioned.
Did you watch Donley play a lot at Orient? What are you basing your knowledge on being better than Thomas Frank’s. A coach with a reputation for nurturing talent. If he thinks a loan and regular football is what the lad needs that’s good enough for me right now.

He’s been given a chance to play weekly in the championship.
If he excels - like Oliver Skipp did at that level - then he’s proved himself worthy of a THFC squad place.

And I’m willing to bet good money you would be missing about his pace, mobility and general lack of awareness if he played premier league football right now.

Let’s just see how he does at Stoke. Hopefully he is there best player and forceps his way into the Spurs squad.

People moaned about lack of loans under Poch. Now we loan more young players out.
People moan.

It’s like a fucked up Groundhog Day.

DOB 3/1/05 so he will still be eligible to be a U21 next season.
Devine and Scarlett would have to be included in the squad of 25 next season, so it really is the last chance saloon for those guys.
Craig is already over 21.

Donley cannot be inferior to the likes of Tel and Gray albeit they play different positions, Donley at this moment in time is a player i would rather keep in my team.

Just because Spurs have spent overwhelming amounts of money on Tel and Gray doesnt mean we can be negligent towards Donley in terms of his potential integration into the squad.

If Donley is all that he'll boss the Championship and will return a 21 year old with seasoning and a whole new bag of tricks, not to mention the hype of having shown his quality in a league people are paying attention to.

Whereas Tel and Gray will have to struggle for scraps of playing time in odd game scenarios and have everyone saying they're shit and we should bin them off.

Which one is "not getting an opportunity", exactly?

Jamie Donley made his debut for NI tonight in a real game.
Came on 76 as NI were leading against 10 man Luxembourg in a WC qualifier.
No going back for JD.

Some post match comments from Martin O'Neill ...
- O'Neill felt Donley was the "best player on the pitch"
- "I thought he did really well in the game. He's clever, his link-up play is good. He is a very talented boy."
