Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If there was ever a window to go big on a few players it’s this one. Champions league to offer along with a World Cup year. May not have that on offer again anytime soon.

No matter who they are need at least 2 more first team players. It will likely make or break this season.

Eze was having a chat with a few Chelsea players, Reese and Palmer I think it was and it certainly looked like they may have been asking him as they were hiding the mouths with their hands.

Couple that and the media hype and postgame reaction of Eze I would say he thinks it’s going to happen.

Could it still end up falling apart? Absofuckinglutely!

The 100m you speak of would be nothing in terms of the potential return of that one investment
yes exactly the point, it has to pay off, you have to win either the league or the CL.

i dont think hes good enough to warrant 100m for four years of football. you should be getting world class or very close too, hes had two good seasons at palace who havent even finished in the top half of the premier league....

Why are you only fussed by the transfer fee?

Hes on about €6m per year atm,

We probably offer him close to €9m per year over 5 years.

Fee: €60m
Wages: €45m
Total: €105m over 5 years,

That’s €21m per year total transfer cost,

If we got him for €50m, it would be €19m per year for 5 years… not exactly a game changing difference

We're not putting an unproven 20 y/o on 175kpw!

....And the reported fee will need to be MORE than €70m

not sure eze is as good as a lot of people think he is. hes also at a risky age where we are going to be paying the max for him with no return other than football....there are players where that is worth it, but they have to be world class, is eze world class?

we are literally going all in on him...its risky business, he might come good and if we get him hopefully he does, but theres a decent chance he doesnt and than how long do we wait to get in this position again? weve taken a 100m gamble before with gio and ndombele and look how that turned out.

he looked good earlier, there was a few sloppy moments, but he looks good because hes in his physical prime and hes sharp and strong across the ground, that sharpness may only last 2 years, may last 4, i think once you take that away from him he struggles big time.

hes apparently a scum fan and they didnt even trigger his release clause, that must baffle a lot of people as everyone raves about him? yet his favoured destination turned their nose up at it and went for madueke instead....

Fair enough, its nice to hear you're reasoning and that clears it up.
I think the release clause was tricky as it had to be paid up in full. Its only recently its changed from that and the gooners had already moved in wanting to do business early.
A 27 year old at 55+ 5m (rumoured amount) does in no way suggest he needs to be world class imo. A world class 27 year old attacking mid would cost upwards of 80m in today's market.
I understand you're reservations on his quality. I do think hes a unique player. Hes not quite a luxury 10 with every kind of pass but also he wont give you the industry of a MGW or de bryne for example. But he has undoubted quality. Palace play him off the left and its a different role to a true 10. I think if we had him centrally and used him to dictate our attack he'd be fantastic. Can go left or right amd then distribute to the wide player and then follow up in and around the box with cool finishes. I can absolutely see why we would identify him as the player to choose along with kudus and savinho and it looks like a formidable attack to me.

Hes a great character and not a diva or strop of a player. Eze is not the sort to down tools or just collect his wages. He seems a good neutralising character, encourages and supports the youngsters and will push the team on. He partly fill the void son left, he has that similar vibe to him.

It's a nothing burger..... They're England team-mates and most players cover their mouths when talking on the pitch these days (in the HD era).

Agree! And the point is he is only likely to be on 200k a week tops? So correct me if I'm wrong but 200k a week = 10m a year, that times 4, 4 year contract = 40m£, a fair amount away from 100m.

lets say we sign him for 60, hes going to be on 180k a week say for 4 years, youre talking nearly 100m to have eze playing for you for four years, is he that good? hell be 31 in 4 years time ands will start declining fairly quick as he relies on being physically sharp.

hes not coming on a free is he, hes going to cost 60m and by the time we are done with him he wont be worth much, so hes costing us 100m total.
Yeah my bad! But even so, 25m a year in The EPL for a game changer like Eze! For me its a no brainer.

I think if you are insisting on world class, then we are not talking 60m + 10m a year.

If we sign Eze and he is instrumental in us getting CL 3-4 times in a 5 year contract, pretty easily worth it.

And he may help change how other players think of Tottenham when choosing next career moves.

This site has such negativity. On one side, folks saying Eze and Savinho are too expensive and not worth the fee. On the other, lots who are (more understandable imo) killing Levy for not getting the deals done.

For me, I’ve seen Frank and his coaches boosting the effectiveness of returning players, huge new value w Kudus. To me, I choose the excitement of the possibility.

And yep, I’ve only been a fan for a decade, so my scars of repeated disappointment aren’t to the level of most of you. 😎

No chance does that have to win you the PL or CL to pay off.

If you are signing a €100m player on €10m per year for 5 years then maaaaybe but City have more than one of those. Liverpool have 2 this summer alone

Eze pays off by being part of a team that gets you CL football regularly and making your younger assets better.,

100m for a player that is not a guarantee to pop is a huge gamble. hence why no one triggered his release clause...
Eze would be a great signing. But he's not an elite signing. As his small number of international caps would indicate
Other clubs with similar revenues to Spurs are either going top shelf, or they've already concluded their business this window.
So we're probably the only other club with the available resources that could afford to meet his release clause.
