Player Rodrigo Bentancur

I'm just gonna call a spade and spade here. I think he's toilet.
Even before the ACL i think he's vastly overrated but just looked like a good player in a team that had to suffer skipp, winks, hojbjerg and sissoko for sometime previous

He's slow, he hides in midfield, his movement is bad. He doesn't have a great pass, nor a shot, nor a cross, nor a tackle .
All he had was being a good at getting out of a press and laying off the ball through close control and that's deserted him for a long time now.

Giving him another contract is just another in the long line of holding onto the like of Davies, winks, richarlison, hojbjerg etc way longer than we should.

Was saying it all summer, midfield. That's what needs upgraded more than anything. better to dominate with a great midfield and have shit forwards like Woolwich rather than have a shit midfield and great forwards like conte era and pray Kane or son pull u out of the fire.

Relying on a trio of inconsistent kids is diabloical, and was partially responsible for ange's bad form
I don’t agree here. Our midfield isn’t in bad shape. It could use some improvement but If we had forwards that could hold the ball or were any sort of threat, they’d look far better. Woolwich’s forwards (mainly wingers) are miles better than ours.

Saka, Martinelli, Trossard, Eze, Swedish Donkey

Kudus, Johnson, Odobert, Tel, Brazilian Donkey

Woolwich have 4 of the best 5 easily.

Knee injury has killed him really. Even before that though he didn't quite have the physicality to be a box to box 8, doesn’t have the technical ability or guile to be like Luka if you’re without that as a playmaker. Doesn’t have the defensive ability or tackling/aggression to be a DM. Can’t play as a 10. This is in the PL. He’s a good footballer in general, but needs to go back to Italy now where he’d fit in a lot better.

He’s a good overall “footballer” and is a classy player when on it. PL doesn’t suit him, even more so after the knee injury. When he’s back in Italy playing for the Rome clubs or a Bologna etc he’ll do well, only 28.
he couldnt of looked too good in italy as juventus were happy to get rid for 20m?

but yea i do agree, he defo needs a move away from england, its too intense here for him, he wants a nice relaxing game with fuck all pressure.

He played over 100 serie A games for juve when they were a far better team than they are now. Think him and Kulu were part of them desperately trying to sort their finances out. Those 2 are rare good business we’ve done in last 10-15 years.

He’s a better overall “footballer” than our other midfielders, he just doesn’t fit well into our PL midfield/roles. As you say, he’ll do well in Italy or a good European team that focuses more on the tactical side and a slow build up.

Not sure I want him signed down to a new deal. I get they want to preserve value, but he’s won us a trophy, had a few good seasons etc, can’t ask for more from a £20m signing. His new deal will means he likely ends up taking up minutes from the likes of Bergval, Sarr, grey etc just doesn’t seem a worth it trade off when we already have Paulinha who looks a much better fit

I thought Bentancur was back to his best against Villa at home last season. Then that cunt Cash did a horrific tackle on him. I still rate him and hes handy for scoring from corners. Hopefully though he will get back to his consistent best.

Long term deal. Hmm?

I guess it's a good sign if we ultimately get to the point where our back up players are Bentancur level.

In Gray, Bergvall and Sarr we have 3 promising young 8's. One of them needs to step up eventually and be our nailed on starter alongside Palhinha (or another 6 we sign later).

I guess the club feel that one of them will make that step soon so we are not going out and spending big on another 8.

Going into next season with:

6: Palhinha, new passing 6
8: Bergvall, Sarr, Gray, Bentancur
10: Xavi, Madders, Kulu

In the meantime Bentacur is experienced cover at 8 and 6. And we likely get a fee for him when we sell in a couple of years.

The only way this becomes an issue is if the 3 kids don't kick on.

The only positive to this news is that we can sell him for a fee next summer.

However it seems Frank likes him

Imagine the salary he is now on whilst he plods his way through games :mourweird:

Blatantly Levy already offered this before he was booted out,

This contract will end up being one that prevents us doing squad building that we really need to improve.

Either that or it means we can’t make Palinha permanent
