So by logic, when we and you see other teams, boo and jeer the opposition when they have the bank, it’s because we want to rattle them, throw them off and force a mistake. We all know that’s the point, and we all celebrate when it works. If that’s the case, how on earth does aiming the same treatment at our own players do anything but harm us? Booing one of ours every time he touches the ball can only unsettle him and the team around him. The only person it benefits is the one doing the booing, because it lets them vent. It does nothing to help the side actually win a match.
Nobody is excusing the fact that three home wins is dreadful, but it’s worth asking why defeats keep happening. You can put some of it down to poor tactics, the manager getting things wrong, the level of the opposition or the players simply not being good enough. But once you get to the fifth, tenth defeat, you have to start looking at other common factors too, including the pressure and tense atmosphere they’re playing in.
Again, if people want to boo at the end of the match, fine. Come on here afterwards and let it all out. But during the game, maybe try something different for once. I can’t stand Liverpool fans, yet you can’t deny they turn Anfield into a place nobody enjoys playing in. Their constant sense of injustice and shouting at the referee works in their favour. Even when they weren’t as strong as us a few years ago, their home form stayed solid. You never hear them booing, even if they lose, whether you like them or not.
