Ex-Spurs Player Brennan Johnson

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Look, I'm Welsh. I'm biased, I think Brennan has uses, but those moments should be him coming on against tired legs towards the end of games.

This is a team sport and we look decisively worse as a team when he plays. Our team as it is just isn't good enough for someone who tends to do nothing for 89 minutes who might just pop up with a goal or not.

He's gonna have to work hard to reclaim his spot now, so it's up to him.

Spurs have changed the way they attack, and for sure it doesn't suit him as a wide player.

Under Frank, Spurs play the ball backwards and kick it long. If they win the knockdown, they don't look to play it behind the defence for runners - instead they look to once again play it backwards, and then move it out too the wings.

Frank = Get the ball down the pitch, then steady the ship without taking risk. No balls played into space - all passes to feet.

This doesn't suit Brennan. He wants to be running onto balls played behind the defenders. He likes to ghost defenders and occupy dead space on the pitch - but Frank wants our players tight to theirs (even when we have the ball), through fear of what happens if we lose it.

Most styles aren’t going to suit him because he isn’t a well rounded player at all.

He can play RW at a lesser club, or off of the main ST, as a CF type. But hes not what we need right now on the wing.

I like to think he can still improve his overall game though and become more of that type of player. I don't think he's had consistently good coaching these past few years despite being one of the obvious beneficiaries of the Ange system.

Stat of the day....

Spurs get better results, score more goals, and concede less goals with BJ in the starting 11.......

STARTS : 10 Games / 5 win, Draw 3, 2 loss | 21 Goals , 9 Goals Against
DIDN'T START : 13 Games / 5 win, 3 draw, 6 loss | 20 Goals 20 Goals Against

Probably cos he didn't start in most of our more difficult games this season: Chelsea, Woolwich, Villa, PSG x2.

If you think Johnson would've changed those results then all the more power to you. But you might need a lobotomy.

Way too small a difference or sample size.
I
seem to remember a stats showing we did better without Harry. Which for a variety of reasons may have made sense at that time for a few games

Great stat.

Clearly the ideal player to bring on when you’re 2- 0 up and need to get added defensive steel in the team.

This shows how stats can be so misleading.
Take Newcastle, would go down as a draw, however, we were losing when Johnson was subbed. Within 1 minute of his substitution we equalised.

Wide forward?

They play a narrow 3-4-2-1 where the 2 AMs are expected to be some combination of a winger, a secondary striker and a playmaker. It's an extremely demanding role in their system. Johnson, a player whose all around game is extremely lacking, barely ticks any of these boxes.

Just because Glasner has successfully converted a former winger in Sarr to an AM doesn't mean any wide player would fit the bill.

“Tottenham winger Brennan Johnson is on Crystal Palace's list of potential January signings, with the Eagles wanting the Wales international, 24, to help their bid to qualify for the Champions League.“

Semenyo <-> Johnson in-out would be amazing in Jan.

Johnson scores goals in the PL, but needs to find a way of adding something to his game, for club and country.

Never given any trouble from what I have seen. Unlike some players who give little on thr pitch and cause issues off of it.

Johnsom appears to be a gentle-natured individual who most probably needs a manager and maybe fans who value what he can bring to the table.

Overly maligned in my opinion, if not always unfairly.

If he is sold I think we lose a proven goalscorer and he will score goals elsewhere.
