Player Guglielmo Vicario

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I feel like we could bring Brad Friedel back out of retirement and still achieve the same thing

What lets Vic down isn't his lack of ability - it's his lack of humility. Why the fuck should a goalkeeper be constantly getting found out for basic things I don't know - it's been too weak at crosses, to trying to take on attackers with the ball at his feet, to playing hospital passes to defenders being pressed, and the whole time he's shouting at other players and blaming the fans.

Of course Frank reinforcing it hasn't helped. But we could have a big lump in goal that just boots it off into the stands any time the ball comes to his feet and it would be a significant improvement.
There's so much about Sommer that is superior to Glug.

Vic is a good shot stopper, Sommer is the World's best. The difference is night and day.

Sommer has big experience, a huge personality and a downright phenomenal mentality. The time his team conceded a penalty and he went to argue with the referee, stood on the penalty spot ad kept turning away from the ref and back, it looked like he was frustrated all the time he was digging up the penalty spot.

He's a footballer who is very comfortable on the ball and doesn't need perfect passbacksor along time on the ball.

Put simply, he is the type of player Spurs should aspire to, not resort to hopeful punts that might develop and might not

I mean, I'd kind of argue with this tbh...

There's nothing remarkable about his shot stopping relative to his peers, it's just much better than the rest of his own game, which is a very low bar.

And he seems like a dick tbf.
I agree here! I think before his injury he was. But there is a noticeable decline in his shot stopping ability since his operation.

He is regularly beaten by shots one would think a keeper known for shot stopping would save.

I guess the issue is, as a keeper who has just turned 37, what would be the long term fix? How long is he going to keep playing for

He doesn't look like he is slowing down any, some of his saves this season have been what you'd expect of a much younger keeper.

I'd give him a 2year deal and hope that working with him might turn Kinsky into a competent keeper.

I'd also keep an eye on how Justin Bijlow recovers from his injury

I find it pretty alarming that people who watch football still struggle with what is a basic rehearsed move to bait the press, literally every manager wants their keepers to play like this, it's high risk high reward.
You need a goalkeeper that is substantially better with the ball at his feet to make it work effectively.

Vicario ain’t that keeper.

He always looks the weak link when the ball is being played out from the back and often does that weird shimmy because he doesn’t have the ability to play it quickly and first time.

Vicario gives me palpitations near enough every time it’s being pinged around the back with the opposition pressing.

Yeah we need to upgrade

Ahh the good old days when defenders & keepers kicked it long like their lives depended on it.

If you guys want Sommer, I will personally take him to London and bring Vicario here to Milan.
Those of you who'd like Sommer, you have no idea what you'd be getting into.
We have had enough of him at Inter, he gives away points often, he's a worse shotstopper than Vicario (very theatrical, makes simple saves appear incredible even by diving when he shouldn't), he's worse at fighting for crosses, hasn't saved a single penalty, and has some of the worst Serie A statistics for a goalkeeper.
He is officially 183 cm tall, but nobody believes it. He is surely shorter.
The only thing he had going for him was the semifinals against Barcelona. And hopefully that will be enough to convince Spurs owners to want him.
I can dream.

We have gotten so desperate of Sommer that most fans would like our #12 keeper, Josep Martinez, to play instead.
If you guys have little patience for Vicario, you'll be having nightmares with Sommer.

Reminder: Inter fan here

To be fair, it's only a couple of people obsessing over the idea.

Football fans regularly only pay attention to the highlight reel. As they say, one save doesn't make a Sommer...

Vicario may not be the best at fighting for crosses ... Sommer would solve that problem of yours.
By waiting on the goal line every single time and never even attempting to come out.
Since the beginning of the season, I've never seen him fight for ONE cross.
You guys would be crazy to give away Vicario, honestly. There's not really many better options.

Mate, he’s completely meh. He’s probably in the bottom half of premier league goalkeepers. Someone like Pickford is better at basically every aspect of goalkeeping.

Maybe, but he rocked in Serie A, so we would gladly bring him back to Italy where we already know he'd perform well.
On the other hand, Sommer struggles even in Serie A.

As for Vicario with Spurs ... I have a feeling your plays aren't helping him, he is probably used to an italian style of defence, and to Serie A refereeing which protects GKs more in corners.
Give him to Inter, and you'll see him rock in UCL.

Vic is shit. Quality shot stopper, awful goalkeeper - can’t kick, can’t claim crosses and has zero composure or aura of calmness. I would happily drop him for Austin
