Management Johan Lange - Technical Director

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Data driven recruitment can get to fuck. How do you build a squad with personality and character through that shit process? The reason all these data driven recruitment clubs are mid table is because data is so misleading.
Did Man City sign Cherki because of data? No they signed him because he’s a brilliant technically gifted footballer. Guehi signing for them has fuck all to do with data. Have Woolwich signed players on data. No,they went out and strengthened there squad on players and positions that improve them dramatically.

Isn't that the way the Brighton's of this world keep unearthing gems and we all moaned "why can't we be more like those guys"? 🤷‍♂️

It's Lange that has come out to defend the transfer window, of course he's going to be the first port of call, he's popped his head above the parapet. The anti ENIC sentiment is now the same as when Levy seemingly had the reigns, people wanted to wait for this transfer window before commenting, to see if this cash injection we were informed about would amount to anything.

Correct me if I'm wrong about his but you seem to me to be suggesting that criticising Lange is hypocritical as if everyone of saying ENIC are now fab?

Not necessarily, I'm just wondering why the same problem that has always existed (ENIC refusing to invest when necessary) is now a non issue and everyone's attacking the guy they've thrown in front of the camera, instead of empathising.

Stupid Danish cry baby cunt. Big ambitions for summer... deary me. Read the room fella. I can take the BS about Jan being a difficult window but dont tell us again that we have big ambitions. We don't, and I doubt anyone at ENIC can even spell the word ambition. They just seem more interested in adding sporting directors rather than blokes who can put a ball in the back of the net.

ENIC not coming up with funding isn't a non-issue, posters probably wanted to see if this £100m injection which was announced last October would amount to anything in the forthcoming winter transfer window.

On the ENIC thread people are posting they want ENIC to sell up, and leave, on Lange's thread they're calling out his excuses.

Didn't Poch say before/after the CL final that we needed a painful rebuild , that's not the words of someone that doesn't want/need new players . It was that long ago I can't remember exactly

Also you: "we got to CL final and instead of investing the £178mil we earned in players - Levy went a few windows without buying anyone."

You've got your timelines mangled mate.

Summer after the CL final we spent 130m+ on Ndombele, Lo Celso, Sessengon & Clarke.

Ok.....I did say I can't remember exactly . It's all a bit foggy cos I've got a touch of old-timers . I think what stuck in my craw at the time was the fact that when Liverpool came runners up in CL the year previous , they went and bought a load of top class players with the money they got from it - and won it the year after . I do remember that we got £178mil for coming runners up - so it appears that we went and bought a load of shit .

Quite.... But it was spent never the less......

If the complaint morphs into being that we didn't spend when we had yet to have such a cash injection (during the time when the stadium was still being built) that would be a vastly different complaint. Did ENIC refuse to gamble on success when our position of strength coincided with the stadium build? Sure........

However, I find relative inaction such as this past January and the gaps left last summer far less explicable than the above (particularly for an investment company who's investment's value is in danger of dwindling.)

He didn't spend anything in the summer and winter window either, IIRC, so a few, come to think of it, nothing in the previous winter window either, so maybe three windows with zero investment..? Possibly?

So no only didn't spend anything for three windows, then went out and brought shit, 2/3 choices, from what Gold was saying in the latest episode of Talking Tottenham.

I don't think he is getting it wrong, I just think you don't get two is a few too.

Go look at a calendar and get back to me.... Or don't.

Personally I think what Levy's lack of investment over the Poch era (especially the final 3 years) was complacency of the highest order and he wasted a golden opportunity to cement our status as a top club and win silverware.

If we hadn't lucked into Kane, or been as good as we were, Levy would've invested significantly more in the squad to try and get us back into the Champions League over that period, even with the stadium being built. Instead, he felt he could be cheap in the market since Poch was overachieving, and didn't recognise how lucky he was. For me that's far worse than what's going on at the moment, and most of the current fall-out is simply the long term knock-on effects of Levy failing to support the squad under Poch and then making a load of knee-jerk, short-term decisions in the post-Poch years.

In the past few years we've been one of the biggest net spenders in world football. It's miles away from the penny-pinching of the Poch era in terms of overall spending.

The problem is no longer the lack of investment, it's the messy squad-building, priorisiting opportunistic buys over smart buys, spending big on fees rather than salaries, swinging between managers with completely different styles, lacking a coherent footballing vision - our issues are more down to poor decision making than lack of overall spending.

Contrary to popular opinion, I actually think the board are being quite smart and disciplined by waiting until the summer to make the right signings rather than just getting who is available in Jan. If we get relegated then we're fucked ofc, but as long as we can survive, we'll be able to do much more with our money in the summer than we could in Jan. But regardless of that, unless we sort out the DoF situation and get someone good in above Lange, we're gonna continue to be a mess.

Get in a proper DoF, sack Frank, demote or sack Lange, and start afresh in the summer with 3-4 serious signings on high wages that genuinely fix the squad. That's what we need.

As I said in my edited post...

Winter, Summer, Winter nothing spent, Ndombele et al all after the CL final in the following summer...

So IIRC, that is three windows, and if correct, a few windows as the other gentleman said..

So what's the BS comment about a calendar?

If you can't follow the thread of the convo you've jumped into then you're on your own.

............And if you need to re-edit posts after I've replied to them then that another you problem.

Not my problem you called someone out for saying a "few windows" without spending any money, and as it turns out, he was perfectly correct to say so... Three windows I believe.

I know exactly what he getting at... Poch comments came after three windows of £0 investment, a month before the CL final. Poch made those comments in May, before the final on !st of June, IIRC.

So yes, we went a few windows without investment and then spent the money on shit.

To little too late.
