Well it's not just about having access to the data - you need to look at the right data, think about the right profiles to complement the existing squad, off-field stuff like character, leadership, resilience, etc. Then you add in the whole networking, negotiating stuff, player pathways, signing players for the youth team, the woman's team - it's a huge job that requires a really broad skill-set.But if it’s a data-game , as you say and I’m necessarily disagreeing; WHY pay this man so much for simply overseeing the process. There are machines and / or 15 year-old kids in their bedrooms who can do that .

Regardless of all the football man vs data nerd stuff, I think the core issue here is simply that Lange is really shit at the job. There are blokes who aren't traditional 'football men' who can do this type of job very well...he's just not one of them.
