Management Preparing for the Championship - What will our squad look like?

Bear in mind 90% of our first team squad, given the choice, would prefer to leave at the end of the season. Do we just lie down and let them leave cos they want to?

I know De Zerbi says he only wants players that want to be at the club, but the reality is, we don't have that luxury. For the club to continue to function we'll have to keep a lot of players that would rather be elsewhere. Much like we've done in the past with Kane and Modric. Both threw their toys out of the pram but we didn't just let them leave cos they wanted to did we?

And tbh, it's actually much simpler to keep young players cos they're on lower wages and much more eager to play since they're not that well established. They can't really go on strike as the club has far more leverage than they do.

If a player like Gallagher or Xavi goes on strike to force a move then they have us over a barrel as they're on 200k per week, but not Vuskovic or Bergvall - quite the opposite. Vuskovic is on like 10k p/w or something - the club has all the power in that situation especially. The only reason we should sell is if we get an absolutely monster bid.
My biggest concern is there will be absolutely no room for moody sulking half arsed players next season, because we're going to be right up against it from the off.

Not only will every single team treat us as their cup final we will be under immense pressure to win every game.

We can't have any bad attitudes in that dressing room, if they're not here for the fight then they should be shipped out. I'm not even sure Vuskovic wants to play for us, or ever has wanted to to begin with

I’ve consulted an expert.

You do realise that it’s an FA requirement to field eleven players ( plus the stipulated number of substitutes) in any league match they have jurisdiction over .

Sure, but there are levels to everything. Players like Kane and Modric have wanted to leave us in the past but we kept them and, guess what, they knuckled down and got on with it - this is what most players do once the window closes.

You prioritise getting rid of the really toxic elements and/or guys on v.high wages. Guys like Kudus, Van de Ven, Xavi...they're just not gonna have playing in the Champ and are all on pretty big money so it's in everyone's interest to get them sold or loaned.

The young guys would no doubt prefer to leave too, but when you're 18/19 are you seriously gonna go on strike when you've barely had like 2 years of top level football under your belt? At that age you need to play and Vuskovic is only on about 10k per week so he hasn't even secured his financial future yet. The club has all the power.

The other thing is, it only makes business sense to sell these players if someone's willing to pay what they're worth to us. Unless someone's offering us crazy money, I just don't see why we'd rush to sell one of the best CB prospects in world football simply 'cos he doesn't want to be here'. Tell him to stfu and knuckle down - he's got 4 years left on his deal and the club are in the driving seat.

This might be an exaggeration but I think keeping Vuskovic is the biggest single action we could take to ensure we get promoted again. He's a fucking monster in the air, a leader and a goalscorer - he's exactly what we need in the Championship and would very quickly become our talisman.

Maybe I'll be made to look silly and we'll flog him ASAP but I think it would be a huge mistake unless someone offers like 90m or some world record bid.

You wouldn't look silly at all. Keeping young players like Vuskovic is 100% the correct thing to do and makes a great deal of sense.

My issue with it is that the morons in charge of running our club are all but certain to find a way of fucking things up even more over the summer.

This is the biggest problem. We’ve all been asking ourselves who the best players and manager would be to have in that division when really it’s who is in charge of identifying and buying the players. If anything that’s the most important person we should be identifying and targeting but I suspect they won’t even do that right.

What do you care? A dork like you seems perfectly fine with the situation as long as you can cause a bit of online drama.

(god, bitter, so bitter! )
Errm you were talking shit and calling strangers "very stupid" whilst trying to cancel them because you didn't want to believe what you own eyes were showing you.

Now here we are.

"Online drama"?

"dork"

And yet you are here too.
Meh. Let's see if your fancy words will starve off relegation....

Didn't call the topic starter stupid, but rather the idea of starting this particular thread in February (!). Which it was, but you seem to really enjoy yourself here "Here is the kicker- we haven't even hit rock bottom yet this season...." so good luck to you.

Kane and Modric weren't playing in a team that just got relegated. No comparison.

Be interesting. We’re still Tottenham Hotspur. We’ve seen Le Fee, Neves etc move to the Championship for the likes of Sunderland and Wolves.

Would have to be a rebuild from scratch. Keep minimal of these wasters. Don’t care if it’s Van de Ven or players like Gallagher who have been here 5 mins. They’re all cunts.

Build around Gray, Phillips, Moore etc.
