The other issue is the phrase 'we need a maximum of one point' infers that getting more than one point might have bad consequences if we get more.

That's another reason why I think there are better ways to express the situation in English. But its not a phrase to die in a ditch over
Not at all - our maximum NEED is one point, we can get more than that without it being an issue of course, there's no problem with the English there.

But yes there are probably better ways to express it in English than your original post, and I think we all know the reality irrespective of how we express it, so apologies for raising it and let's all just enjoy having a lot more hope of survival than we had a month ago. 🙂

My glass is half empty. I cannot see us getting anything at Stamford Bridge, especially with Alonso being unveiled. And Everton at home. Think they are not only better than us, but we’ve been so shit at home and won’t deal with the pressure. I guarantee Leeds will roll over for West Ham. Why is supporting Spurs so fkin difficult?
Fair concerns but regardless we got the perfect result today. It's all we could ask for and better than any of the other scenarios.

Me neither. Sounds easy now.

But imagine how you feel after we lose to Chelsea on Tuesday night. Especially if it's the traditional bad defeat where they bully us all over the park. Then we go into the final game at home to Everton needing a point and we suck at home and it'll be a nervous tense atmosphere. So I agree! We could very well be relying on west ham to not win next week again!

I'm hoping that the players see the chelsea game as a freeshot now and play without pressure and put in a performance lile the villa game. Then also hoping Chelsea are a bit off it after Cup final. And we nick a point there and can relax.

But the most likely scenario is Chelsea beat us. And I do not fancy us at all if this goes down to the final day! We could lose 3-0 at home Everton after doing the big TIFO.
Although the other branch of the conspiracy theorists suggest the Chavs are so opposed to playing in the ECL next season they are quite prepared to take the financial penalty for withdrawing from it....the easier route might be by possibly not trying too hard to get enough points to rise up into a position to qualify.

Hell of a dilemma for their scummy fanbase and players innit? On the one hand the players knowing what sort of reaction they'll get if they don’t get stuck in and the back of their mind thinking "fuck getting injured for the World cup"

Sorry mate, but saying we need a minimum of one point implies that we'll be relegated if we don't get a point. That's not the case, WH could fail to win their last game. That's not a matter of opinion, it's a mathematical fact.
If we needed a minimum of one point then that would mean there are no scenarios where we get no points but still survive - but there are such scenarios, WH losing or drawing. Or am I going mad? 🤷‍♂️
yes. Ignoring the GD (and we CAN ignore that poss ) we need a max of 1 point
