Wasn't one of the reasons he turned down a Saudi offer because he was worried what it would do to his brazil spot? Hopefully now it means he'll.be more open to moving somewhere like that this summer as he will have very few takers in Europe who could pay a half decent fee for him and give him the wages he's currently on

It speaks volumes that he's the best choice we have up top at the moment, and his goal record since being in the PL is poor.

Can't fault the effort but was a bizarre purchase for £60M

Nothing bizarre at the time, he was genuinely worth that amount at that point after the season he had at Everton.
Really - £60M? Have to disagree on that sir. One good season (and that wasn't amazing either - 1 goal in 3) doesn't justify it to me

Chris Wood has been more consistent (barring his 2 years injured / a sub at Newcastle) and cost a third of what Richy did

I like Richys effort but a natural striker he definitely is not

Well I do agree that Richie did not have a good game against Leeds.
He had at least 3 really good chances but he did not take any of them.

But I am still bit baffled with the unhinged hate here.

Richie has 11 goals and 5 assists for us in EPL and CL combined this season.
Sure, that ain't no Kane numbers, but the thing is - everyone else have been far worse. Why throw shit at the best of the weak bunch ?

Or looking it from other way - if that is shit then what in the world would one say about Kolo Muani and his 1 goal + 1 assist ratio in EPL after ~1600 minutes played?!?!? If Richie would have had such delivery rate, we'd be relegated months ago.

I of course also do hope that we will upgrade on Richie in the summer. I am not trying to suggest that he is a solution. No. He is not good enough player if we want to compete for Europe. But he is not close to being biggest culprit for where we are.

No he absolutely was not.

Before the rumours began to really gather pace of his move here, absolutely no Spurs fan wanted him near the club, never mind spending 60 million on him. In classic fashion, once it became clear he was actually signing Spurs fans began trying to convince ourselves that he was a decent player.

He is a crap player. He has always been a crap player, and the fact he has basically been our main striker since Harry Kane is a big contributing factor to why we are where we are.

Ancelotti has clearly sussed him, and no matter what happens, Sunday must absolutely be his last game at this football club.

It speaks well of his character that he refused to go to Saudi but fuck me that deal would have helped us so much.

Sonny too. We could have recouped 100M for the pair of them.
Son was sold for £20m I believe, no club would pay £80m for Richarlison. Saudi might pay big wages but rarely have they coughed up on a big transfer fee, certainly not for someone of Richy’s level and age.

If Richy wasn’t playing then someone else would and they might score the goals or at the very least contribute in the actual game. He’s as bad as it can get at this level and sadly he’s been trusted far too many times by managers at this club. He is a factor along with many others why we are on the brink of relegation. I hope to fuck he does score tonight or Sunday and help keep us up but it 100% must be the last time he pulls on our jersey

He's pretty much a 1 in 3 forward, and has delivered double figures several times now in the league, despite not being a striker and being on the wing an awful lot.

He's scored some goals that he had no right to. during a period where we've been awful. Put him in the Poch era - in the unlikely scenario where Poch has heard of rotating, mind - and he'd be at Son levels IMO

You can defend the man without going as far as the bolded.

Son is one of the best players this league has seen in the last decade. He has a genuine shout for XI of the decade in the PL. Richy would never dream of the levels Son reached.

Because he had the opportunity. People quickly turned on him in the seasons we didn't do too well. There's fickleness to it.

Harry Kane is one of the best English players to have played the game, but you can't guarantee he'd have hit the same levels if we'd sold him to Hull or West Brom.

We're still talking about a player that has scored pretty consistently for us despite having worse service than a McDonalds drive through

There is a valid point re Richy not being used properly in our team. There have been so many times he's isolated up front, having to drop deeper because we had no progression from midfield. He's absolutely useless being asked to do that. Need him in the box, causing headaches. Then other times he's got shite service from the wide forwards which wastes something he's actually good at - getting his head on the end of it and troubling defenders.

His inability to hold onto the ball or get a good touch on it, when he's under pressure can be frustrating. And obviously he's inconsistent, able to bicycle it in or miss sitters.

Me personally I've been frustrated with him so many times but also seen when he has a good run of games he is valuable. I'd take him over Solanke all day long in this relegation scrap.

We should absolutely upgrade if we can, no doubt. But for what we actually are in reality - a team that's been in relegation form for the last couple of seasons - he's a useful forward. Even if he's a hard watch.

Someone else like ...?

Also that is clearly wrong way to look at it. If someone else would be fit and able to step in then Richie would first take the place of Kolo Muani. Who - I repeat again - has 1 goal and 1 assist.

But no one is taking his place to contribute more. So why are these phenomenal attackers being kept in shackles so far :D ?

Correct. Although the fact our fans try to convince themselves he’s a decent player should never be a factor. You could put a one legged dwarf in a Spurs shirt and some of our fans would say well he’s got something about him…

31 goals in 131 appearances for us. To put that into perspective here are some other of our non celebrated strikers over the years.

Chris Armstrong 62 in 173
Steffan Iversen 47 in 178
Mido 19 in 61
Darren Bent 25 in 79
Roman Pavlychenko 42 in 113

Could easily say he's been our best forward this season but its just nowhere near good enough. Plus he has 1 year left on his contract so if we want anything back now's the time.

always been a crap player is a bit harsh. You can say that he is a average player and this season he (and everyone else) has been poor. And that he is not worth 60 million pounds.

But - always been a crap player - that´s not true

Nice one. I'd still argue he's been playing in a (mostly) terrible side not making the most of his profile, but that's purely an argument re the stats. In terms of overall assessment yeah, we need an upgrade for sure.

Super Pav's numbers there - 1 goal per 2.7 games. Not too shabby in the context of a limited player. Remember we were meant to be in for Arshavin and when he went to the scum it was like, well we've got to deliver a Russian now 😂

Richy was immense in the Europa final, rolled back the years for that one. He also guarantees a base level of fight in the relegation games we’ve had.

However, this season has to be his last with us - this summer window is possibly the biggest we’ve had in theorem era (assuming we stay up) we need to build a squad that’s never done in the shit again

People underestimate the shift he puts in defending, rather than meandering on the halfway line.

11 goals in 33 games in all comps makes him a £30m player at best.
13 in 40 the season before
Everton overpaid for him, and so did we.

I appreciate his work rate, but his output isn't great.
As of now though, he's the best we have, regardless of what he misses.
