Leaving him in La Liga instead of recalling after struggling for a 2nd season. If they cared about developing him they would have recalled him in Jan and sent him somewhere like Belgium or Holland to start reguarly. He'll be off this summer and we'll just take the loss.

Forgot that was his 2nd year......

Time will tell, I guess.

Yep, shit happens

Won on Bergv, L on this oaf. Move on, kid needs to play regularly

The only cheap punt we have got is Bergvall rest have been money spunked away
Pape Sarr counts IMO. Probaby Udogie too. I don't know what cheap is these days but they weren't that much more than Bergvall

Whole squad look like shit as this current coaching staff have make them all look a bit shit. Best thing about Poch was that he made the Southampton squad he had, with Shaw, Jay Rodriguez etc, look better than they were. Did it with a fair few here too.
That's why I'm hoping for Frank, as I'm willing to bet he'd get a tune out of Gil never mind Odobert or Moore

All three were the same sort of deal, where they were bought for around 10M at age 18-19 and loaned back to the selling club for the initial season.

Because Bergvall had yet to turn 19 when he officially joined up with Spurs he will wind up being homegrown and club trained assuming he stays, but I definitely think of all three as the same kind of deal.

Veliz was the same price point, but he came over and started training with us right away.

I feel like you have to be careful with strikers, as its such a confidence-based role, as a bad loan or whatever can really mess with them. He looked really bright with his cameos with us and was unlucky to get injured when he might have found some game time.

Certainly loaning strikers to teams that don't create chances is a dumb thing to do, so I hope we do better by him next season.

18, he was 17 when the deal was agreed and had to wait until he turned 18.

If we'd waited until he was 19 he'd not be able to become HG, as he has to be here for 3 years between 18-21.

Though technically what you've wrote is correct, he had yet to turn 19 when he joined...

Hopefully get this slug off our books asap.

Yet another hopeful punt at youth that hasn't paid off. All these N'jie to Clarke type signings cost us hundreds of millions in fees and wages, when we could just buy some decent players oven ready.

The odd Bergvall doesn't make up for the trash we turn over.

He looked fairly decent for us prior to his loans away
Especially with his physical presence for such a young player iCan see why he was signed

I wouldn't be throwing the towel in just yet because he's had 2 poor loan spells away

This is very much on the club to manage his next move very carefully

Probably sent to La Liga
With both loans because:

A: because of his Argentinian nationality it must be much quicker to obtain Spanish citizenship and therefore bypass the need for a work permit here.

B: he speaks the language already giving him a better insight into European football after leaving South America so young.

Yes he hasnt been suited to either Seville or Espanyol and imo given his physicality would be much better suited to German or Dutch leagues but maybe as above with citizenship at play everyones hands have been tied.
If we do loan him again next season it would be great to makesure he has every chance to succeed

He bumbled about, tried hard, got a goal, played on whilst injured, but never really showed an exciting quality other than he's a young developer.
Dutch league is pointless. A loan in the Championship would be of more value.
German league will be much harder, with a language barrier.
Spain can be a flattering league for players that can't hack it in the Premier League and he's not cut out for it there.

Stop throwing good money after bad.

He is now over 21 so no way he makes the UCL squad. Depending on who we let go there is a slim chance he could be included in the EPL squad but another loan seems odds on.

Yeah to be HG you need to be playing for the club, at the latest, for the season in which you turn 19. Then you can play three full seasons before aging out of U21 status, that's the requirement.

Sarr was already 19 and Udogie was 20 by the time they joined up after their loan spells.

The real problems in the Poch era were buying punts like Suarez for a then record £36m ....... who after one season rarely played before being given away.

and I assume you have heard of Ndomble who cost £65m and we had to pay off his last year wages of £10m to go, or Lo Celso who with loan fee was about another £60m .... sold for £4m and a sell on option on another Betis player and Sessegnon at £30m who was released on a free. Clarke we might get back our money on with sell ons, so he's far from being the problem.

Never understood Janssen being bought for £20m but never played, N'Jie or N'Koudou either but at least they were not huge write offs like the others

Yeh our hit rate with these punts is awful. Jack Clarke anyone…

It won’t stop the next hopeful hack being pumped up as something special. We love a bit of blind optimism in here.
