Townsend has been our best player so far this season.

1) He averages 5.7 successful dribbles per game. The next closest in the league is Suarez and he has only 3.
2) He leads the team with 1.9 key passes per game and ranks 15th overall in the league in key passes.
3) Despite his massive amount amount of dribbling per game he is only dispossesd a little under 2 times per game. Not even in the top 25 of most dispossessions in the league.
4) He has a top 5 whoscored rating of every player in the Prem this year.

Overall, while his shot selection has been a little reckless, I think he has gotten more selective in recent weeks and has made some pretty quality reverse passes. Furthermore, he really has been unlucky not to get on the score sheet a couple of times. He has had some great saves made against him and just missed a couple of the other times.

Also, he is such a young player that we should be warning him to express himself, take chances, and gain confidence. I know this was something that @ spooky spooky echoed more than once in regards to Bale two seasons ago on the pod. It is important for a young player to be aggressive and we shouldn't begrudge them that in their development.

Townsend has been our brightest spot attacking wise so far this year and while his lack of end product has been frustrating it really should be better if not for some poor luck. He needs to grow and make better decisions but he is young and I think we're already starting to see that.

Lamela and Townsend should be playing together. They both offer something different and dangerous. You allow the float all over the field and make problems for everyone and I think it will make us much more dangerous. It will even get better when Rose is back to provide more natural left side width.

Above post is spot on. Siggy has had a good start to the season but i am excited to see Lamela and Townsend on each wing. Hoping for another big game from Andros tomorrow and for him to run his barcode fullback ragged

I never got involved or carried away with Townsends recent attention as I never have and still don't think he is what we want or need. Don't get me wrong I was pleased for him with his two great apperances for England, and all the headlines he was grabbing but I knew it wouldn't last as he is so predictable and selfish it's untrue.
All he wants to do is grab the headlines with 30 yard worldies because that's what Bale did. The times he has had better options which could've lead to goals but just fires one off which 19 times out of 20 they go nowhere.
I would love to be proved wrong but I can't see him changing my mind.
He was average at Millwall and poor at Leeds, this type of player is not what a team like Spurs need.

Time for Erik.

Andros can play in the Europa League, Defoe deserves to feel the frustration of having no chances created for him.

The hype is slowly dying off and it's time for Lamela to be given a solid run of games in the PL

Andros can alternate with Sigurdsson in future

Townsend created pretty good chances for erikson (twice) and paulie

He could have easily had three assists

His dribbling is becoming a bit one-dimensional but I though one of the highlights of the first half was he and Erikson connecting toward the edge of the box

I don't want him out of the line-up

I just want Lamela in ASAP

Doesn't matter if its lw or rw - they need to be interchanging anyhow

Every time he received the ball he had 2 and sometimes 3 men on him. He is without doubt a threat and opposition sides know this hence the attention he is getting. So, he has to develop his game to overcome this. Also, as a team we should be looking to take advantage of this with 3 men on him there should be space elsewhere to exploit.

Andros has had a terrific start to the season and I don't think many of us in June even considered him a part of our squad. He has fantastic attributes all of which have been well documented, however he is still wet behind the ears at this level.

In terms of linking the play and bringing out the best in Soldado (which has to be a priority given Defoe's well documented shortcomings and Ade being conspicuous by his absence) Townsend falls short currently. Our 2 record signings are still yet to play in the same team (Soldado & Lamela) and building this relationship should be a priority now.

Given his age and how much better he looks in the 2nd half of games when defenders tire Townsend would be an incredible option as an impact sub. There will also be plenty of games in which both can start. With the games against City & Utd approaching I would take this opportunity to rotate Townsend and re introduce him slowly to impact effectively upon games.

Talented with plenty of opportunity to improve

But the word "balance" is completely lacking from his game.

Stop forcing things, play to the areas that the defense gives you and utilize your teammates more.

Watching all of those Gareth bale highlights from last year clearly have done more harm then good.

Very true on that Eriksen cupcake and the type of end product you'll get with more balance to AT's game. Great dummy by Soldado on that same opportunity. Still shocked Eriksen missed that one. it was an absolute cupcake and sums up Spurs goal profiency this year.

When he cut inside, tripped over his own feet and then had a shot when surrounded by 4 players and hit it into the feet of the defender pretty much summed up his day, Lamela should start ahead of him now
