Pretty lucky that RDZ wants the same players that Frank did........

Maybe we can get Walker on the cheap as well and have both positions covered? :contefists:

Have we changed as a club? Have we fuck

This is an opinion but many, myself included have a different view.
The Robertson we are getting isn't the same Robertson that bombed up and down the left for Klopp's Liverpool when they were at their peak. The Robertson we are getting is not a better player than Udogie. For all the hate we seem to get right now it's worth remembering that for much of the season without Udogie we were utter shite. We had much better balance when he came back into the side and were able to win a few games. I actually think people are being harsh on Udogie. In his first season under Ange he was decent. 2 goals, 3 assists, 87% pass completion, 68 tackles, 150 duels won, 37 interceptions. I think RDZ can unlock his ceiling much like Ange did and if he does, he's an order of magnitude better than 32 year old Roberson. But hey, that's my opinion.
It is all opinions and I did state that I wish it was the Robbo of years ago. As for Udogie,87% pass completion is actually shit when every pass is a safe one to a wide player, inside or back to a left centre back. I’ve seen enough of Udogie to believe he’ll never be better than average. He can’t cross, scared to shoot whe he gets in a decent position and I think most importantly he’s a lazy defender. He doesn’t stop crosses, switches off and can’t defend his back post.
We all have our opinions on players and he’s one id happily see us sell.

All we need is basic competence in every position and we’ll shoot up the table. Robinson is better than Udogie in that respect.

Remember how much more organised we were when Ben stepped in for a couple of games. That’s all it is.

What a sad state of affairs when pretty much anyone who can play football is an improvement on our current first 11.

Wrote this in the other thread, for a 2nd choice LB it’s fine.. it’s obviously not some awful player and he’ll probably do a reasonable job in a bit-part role.

What concerns me much more about this is what it signifies about control behind the scenes — Robertson was a Lange/Vinai target predating De Zerbi. So Lange is still in charge then, at least for now… and it matches Vinai’s bollocks interview talking about needing proven leadership. So we’ve made a club signing and given a way past his best Robertson a fat chunk of wages, and I guess that’s that. I’d much prefer to pay for real quality, I think quality is by far a more pressing concern than “leadership” or “experience” but that’s just me… the whole thing is not entirely convincing and I still get the feeling that the overall direction of the club is in serious disarray.

Yes and No to all that.

It might help to know that a good number of transfers are a year or more in the making, which might start with a coach having worked with a player before or the player might have been scouted by the club etc ....... but for various reasons the transfer does not get done immediately (might be on players side or club wants to wait for an existing player to move on etc

So any coach coming in will probably say he wants half a dozen players in, and both club and manager know getting 6 done involves a lot of uncertainty about getting deals done ..... so club will say 'these are deals which are part done which we think we can close' . Manager will say I like X and Y but not A and B, so might be able to do with just these 4 in.

So a new manager can choose players to join ... but knows he's more likely to get most players in if he accepts a couple of 'half done deals'

Reality is that with a 25 man squad and most teams only bringing in about 5 players a season, its going to take a new manager 5 years to get a squad with all 'his' players in. But as mast managers only last 2 years at a club, the majority of managers play with a squad where MORE than half the players were not his choice - they were a former manager's choice.

So all managers know that most of players in the squad are not his choice but he'll generally find a way to play most. So not really different for Roberto accepting some of Lange's suggestions.

A small but valid illustration is the Bristol Rovers manager who said (I saw the interview) that he saw Spurs u21 player Yusuf Akhamrich when he scouted an u21 match last year and liked him. Spurs said 'we don't think he's ready for a loan yet but we'll keep in touch'.

This January Abramoch joined Bristol Rovers on loan and has scored 7 goals for them (their 2nd highest scorer of season) ...... about one year after being first scouted, and its been a great loan for both Rovers manager and the player.

Not a conspiracy, that's how life works in football !

No way RDZ is letting them sign anyone without his say so. He raves about Milner and there is a reason the Muppets in charge are all talking about leadership etc and it's because it's from RDZ telling them what's missing.

He's a good signing and will prove a fair few on here wrong.
Didn't say he was a bad signing.

Just that he ain't a RDZ pick.
