Solanke has been decent, but he's not an elite striker.

Solanke obv. does.

We have done nothing to improve the starting 11. Gray, Odobert, Bergvall, Werner, Yack. 85m spent on players that don't improve us. Throw in Phillips, Veliz, Spence for another 40m.

This doesn't make them "relegation scrappers"

Clearly we are building for the future. Conte was the last roll of the dice to win something before Kane left and Son declined.

Then you can see a logic afterall, but are just doing your best to spin them all as shit.

I’m shake it all about.

Got no idea what is best. Keep him and slip aimlessly down the table or sack him and put two novices in charge and probably do similar. Right now I don’t think the options are there to kick him out. It’s a shit excuse not to do it though but probably enough to keep him in his job.

Not winning the next two games though will probably speed things up either way.

I think it boils down to a lack of alternatives.
It's not even halfway through the season.
Do you write off the season now, sack Ange, and bring in a temporary manager?
Or, do you keep him on through January and hope that he get's some good winter signings in January?
Personally, I think there is a real lack of depth to the squad.
If you had two players vying for every position, that would push both of them to perform better, and would also allow for better rotations.

We lack another LB but what other position is there no competition?

RW I guess if you discount Kulu (who some argue is better than Johnson and has played ahead of him in some big games).

I think the squad is shit. The worst we’ve had since before Jol. Probably doesn’t help.

NAME US one SPurs player who has improved since 2022/23 ??

Just one ( Forster ..? Davies? )
Sarr
Kulusevski
Davies arguably playing as well or better than he ever has
Porro started the season brilliantly but has gone very flat
Maddison I’d argue has played even better at times this season than his start to last season
Johnson has had spells where he has looked sharper but we all know his limitations

Udogie has gone backwards - but did have surgery over the summer that seems to have set him back
Son has been hit and miss for years
Bentancur, vdv - about the same
Romero has been rubbish
Bissouma has done his usual mix of brain farts and looking everything from world class to useless

It's not the only reason I'm Ange In, but on some level I just think his footballing philosophy is correct.

I think when you're leading, getting the next goal is an underrated strategic objective, ESPECIALLY if you are a team that typically wants to play attacking, possession-based football in normal game states. Taking a step back to control the game is very often a mistake.

That simplicity and clarity of philosophy, and training the players to always have that same objective, and to always know exactly what the tactics are regardless of situation, makes a lot of sense to me.

We need to train and excel in all phases (not being able to defend a set piece has nothing to do with "philosophy" for instance) but I'm keen to stick with the fundamentals of Angeball.

People are much too quickly forgetting how little tolerance they had for wretched anti-football tactics the second anything went wrong.

Depends who is available to replace him. If out means Mason then fuck that, it’s pointless. Show me who the replacement is or might be then I’ll decide.

There are bigger fish to fry here than just the manager.

It would still be better than where we are now.

If it doesn't work, bring someone else in.
If your aunt had a dick she'd be your uncle, I'm not sure what your point is?

I get you want ENIC to spend more but they won't. The options are to stick with a manager who is clearly not working like Ange/AVB or take a punt that the next one is more Poch than Mourinho.

The next manager likely fails, too, but there is a chance he won't. Ange has already proven a failure.

He’s got him mate Munn at the club too don’t forget who will be in his corner. Levy will go above his head and sack him obviously in the end undermining everything and he will be out too in 12 months hopefully. Then paratici will probably be brought back in with any luck

That's objectively false.

His first season ended in a better league position than he took over and his second season isn't over yet.

People can make any argument they like but unless Ange gets sacked before the end of the season, we can't say he's proven to be a failure until we are out of all cups and mathematically can't finish above where we did last year.

First season result was buoyed by an aberrantly good first 2 months.

In the calendar year plus since Nov 1, 2023 we have played 42 league matches and earned 57 points. 1.35 points per match. That is our worst run in the league since 2008-09. And that's not a run of form - that's more than a full season, uninterrupted.

He is our worst manager since Ramos. That is statistically true.

I don't blame people for freaking out about a bad patch of form, but they are in fact freaking out about a bad patch of form.

None of this season's objectives have been decided yet.
