Hello Spurs fans
I’m a Celtic fan and I’ve read this thread, mainly to see if any of you were ITK about Ange but a few comments need to be addressed.

A lot of you seem to be referencing Gerrard as a measure of success in Scotland. Gerrard won a single title and no cups in three seasons. It was 1 trophy out of 9 he competed for. He wasn’t a success, he was hyped up by his friends in the media because he’s Steven Gerrard. Ange won more than him in ten months. He’s currently on 4 trophies out of 5 with a cup final this weekend to make it 5 out of 6.

“Rangers have a bloke in charge that must have won a competition or something” is another comment that has stood out. After Gerrard left, Rangers appointed GVB who had won the league at Feyenoord… Isn’t that the same pedigree as the guy Slot you all wanted last week? He then took Rangers to a Europa league final 11 months ago.
This season we’ve won the league against a Rangers team that had over 90 points. A total that would have won the title 9 times out of 10. We did it by scoring a record number of goals. We beat them in a semi final and a cup final. As I said, they were in a Europa final… not a bad team you know, beating Dortmund, RB etc.

Rodger’s was a good manager who was up against incredibly poor competition. A Rangers side that had just returned to the league and had people like Mark Warburton I charge and Scottish players with no pedigree. His trebles do not compare to the one Ange is on the verge of winning and frankly his football was extremely boring for the most part and he had the personality and charisma of a dish cloth.

When Ange joined us we were also underwhelmed, our forums had splits down the middle too and we started the season really poorly going out of the CL to some Danish team and losing quite a few of our opening games but when it clicked, it clicked and I’ve watched some of the most exciting, dynamic and expansive football I’ve ever seen us play. The guy has a good ethos on how the game should be played which is quick, front foot, attacking football. It’s all about winning and winning playing the football he likes. He has no time for defensive, turgid approaches to games. We went into a game against Real Madrid with one pivot in the 6, two 8s, two wingers and inverted full backs. He has no fear and we love that. We play single pivot against everyone and we press really high up the pitch, 100 miles from the off with a lot of great rotations on each wing. We take quick free kicks, corners and throw ins. You can find a lot good examples of that play from these games:

I can understand your reservations although some of it does come across as slightly entitled but you’re a club that seems a bit lost, there’s no connection between fans, manager and players. You’ve had a lot of big time hires that haven’t worked out. This guy is probably exactly what you should be looking for. He really unites the team and the fans together, he’s a passionate guy with incredible presence. Our players will run through walls for him but they are also shit scared of him. He has no time for egomaniacs or primadonnas. He’ll weed them out fast.
Lastly, this man is a mentality monster. You are criticising his lack of pedigree. Wake up, do you know how difficult it is for a guy who’s managing in Australia to get noticed? There’s a bias towards managers from Europe or in Europe. The Morocco manager referenced it during the World Cup.
Ange has had no help, no leg up ala Gerrard, Lampard etc. He started off with Australia U17s and now he could become the first Australian to manage in the EPL. He rocked up at Celtic with not one member of staff. He backs himself like you wouldn’t believe and people follow this guy, he gets everyone on board. As for Levy, Ange is in charge of everything at Celtic. He does all the signings, he rejigged all the youth set up so now they all play the same tactics as the first team. He oversees the full project. We don’t have a DOF.

Absolutely desperate for him to stay at Celtic but I know the nature of the beast. We worship him like a God. I’ve never known a manager to be so in sync with the fans. We know Ange though and he’ll be very keen on being the first Aussie to manage in the EPL given everything he’s had to overcome to get here.

What a great post. Thank you

London based Celtic fan here , going to give you my 2 cents .

We , as a support , were very very negative about Ange when he was appointed (cheap option , yada yada ). We were supposed to get Howe. With a bit of digging and research turned out his teams had broken records in Aus , and he had taken a team to a J League title for the first time in 10 years , again with a record points total. He also won the Asia Cup as Australia manager
( equivalent of Euros ). Pep said he was one of the best coaches in the world aswell. So we were obviously more optimistic than we were initially.

But he has surpassed any reasonable expectations we had and has probably ruined any future managers for us . He is far , and I mean far better than Rodgers. Never seen a team as fit , aggressive , organised and efficient as this one in my years supporting us . Again , he's broken records here for goals scored etc. But his most impressive attribute has been his eye for a transfer. He has brought in players that have hit the ground running and he had them up to speed on his very specific system very quickly. Jota , Kyogo , Abada, Hatate , Starfelt, Maeda, Oh , Haksabanovic all worth 2 or 3 times what we paid now.

We finished 20 points behind in the league before he came in so he had a full rebuild on his hands and lost 3 of his first 5 in the league before he got his own players in and fit. So he actually performed a miracle turning that around in his 1st season ....pressure was on massively and we had to be near perfect as that was a decent Rangers side under GVB ( Europa finalists ) .

He is a disciplinarian and doesn't suffer fools .

Looks like we are getting Brendan back , and you will be getting Ange . He may well surprise you.

Also.....this myth that Gerrard done a good job at Rangers is a pet peeve . He didn't. He won 1 trophy in four seasons ( in an empty stadium 2021, while we had Neil Lennon as manager......) Brendan won 10 in 3.5 seasons , Ange has won 5 in 2 seasons .
Thank you for your positive and detailed report on Postecoglou- 2 things I’d query - his eye for a transfer - don’t know how many of them would prosper in our prem lge and that he has won 5 trophy’s- I know it would be a massive shock to lose to a mid table championship team on Saturday but isn’t his trophy count currently 4 !😂

Anyway, think I’ve had an epiphany during the night - still have reservations about how successful he will be but my only request for our next manager is to produce a team that entertains and it looks like there is every chance his team could do that so I’m all in on the Postecoglou train COYS

If he wants full control over transfers, isn't that meant to be something that turned Levy off Nagelsmann?

Except Nagelsmann was asking for a DOF to handle recruitment, not doing it himself like Ange seems to do?

Didn't Levy also make a big fuss about wanting to do a Brighton-style Data recruitment with new betting metrics?
How's that work with Ange?

Transfers at a proper run club should have the managers input but should be driven by a DoF and Scouts who understand the managers ideas. If we are not a circus then even if Poste’s isn’t the best at that aspect we should be ok.

Clearly what we're offering to any new manager is very unappealing (see Naglesmann/Enrique and probably Poch as much as we deny it) I think the purse strings are going to be significantly tightened for the foreseeable future and any potential new manager will be told as such.

I also think Levy and the board don't want to give the new manager too much control over transfers either as they want to vet deals more closely than in the past and this with the combination of us having no European football means we're a tough sell to top managers.

Someone like Postecoglu is getting on in age and probably knows he's unlikely to get a shot at a big money team and he's probably interested because he'll back himself to work through the early inevitable difficult period and eventually win over the board (and fans) and get to a stage where he's able to mould the team the way he wants.

Sounds like a receipe for disaster with levy and co controlling football matters and posto wanting things his way. I’m sure he has his own self belief and respect to not be pushed around.

Apparently, this isn't the way Ange works. He reportedly considers himself the DOF and manager at Celtic.

Actually really like the idea of him as a coach but this is easily the biggest red flag for me out of the 3 choices we should be chasing (JN, LE, AP).

Did he have some connection with Johann Cryuff when he was younger? Thought I read that he was an understudy of his way back. 🤔
You are thinking of Ferenc Puskas. Puskas coached South Melbourne to a NSL title in 1990/91. Ange was the club captain I believe.

Johann Cryuff has a different connection to Australia - He stole the Cryuff Turn from Adrian Alston during the 74 World cup.

There’s a balance to approach here.

- His previous accolades are not evidence of success at Spurs, this is a very different club that plays in a very different league.

- Equally, because he lacks experience in the big European leagues it doesn’t mean he isn’t qualified for the job. The parallels to Gerrard and Neil Lennon are stupid.

Very few of us have seen much of his Celtic side or know anything about him, we’re not really qualified to assess TBH.

If we were a well run club like Dortmund or Brighton our fan base would buy into the appointment, but with such awful footballing decisions made by the club over the years it creates a natural sense of pessimism.

From what’s on offer I’m happy to give it a whirl but with a degree of pessimism about it.

All these Celts signing up here to tell us how good Costecoglou is and how we really need him. Call me suspicious, but my mum told me never to trust a Scotsman.
