Management Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

At least he's honest ... but it's not just him who's confused about the handball rule: even the refs are!

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou summed up the confusion at the current state of affairs, claiming that he has "no idea" what the actual rules are anymore. "Mate, I couldn't see but I've got no idea about the handball rule. I really don't," Postecoglou said.

"I saw the one yesterday at Wolves and it just seems if it hits your hand it's a penalty and then other times if it hits your hand, it isn't a penalty.

"I've got no idea. It is the one rule in the game I just don't understand. Unless we start developing armless defenders I don't know how you are supposed to block things and be in a natural position. It is what it is mate. You kind of hope these things even themselves out over the course of a year but I don't understand the handball rule. I have said that to referees in the past and I don't know how they see it to be honest.

"I think any clarity would be good because I have got no idea, mate. That is probably just me but I have no idea what the handball rule is because I've seen all sorts of handballs given and all sorts of handballs not given and they look identical to me. I don't know. I don't understand it."

I’ve said for ages I’ve no clue what the handball rule is in the penalty area. It never seems to make sense. Eg. I actually thought Romero’s v Man Utd was a pen but yesterday it wasn’t. Same against West Ham last season when one of their players put his hand directly on the ball but they didn’t give it. I just have no idea. I don’t think the refs do either, they just guess.

Seriously Mrs Perryman Mrs Perryman you are our Boudicca. No matter the level of ass kicking that awaits( I was at the Emirates for our previous Surrender)I console myself with the fact that the mad Malteser will lead us into battle no matter the odds! I do not want to hear you were cowering behind the sofa amid the detritus of a half dozen bottles of Proseco!!
Actually I was catching up on Strictly!

I'm sure there's some but Ange really does seem a uniquely special guy.

I don't mean about his tactics, I mean about his ability as a communicator and a leader.

I'm sure there's tons of tactical geniuses scattered across the globe, but you need to have that AND a world class ability to get people to believe in you and to be able to coach them enough to get them to execute your vision.

I am a Brisbane Roar supporter who lived and breathed all of Ange's successes here and have followed every comment, video, analysis of his move to Europe that I can find.

One that sticks in mind is this interview with an Aussie football aficionado Andy Harper who has some VERY flattering things to say about Ange, and given this was a couple of years ago, seems to be prophetic with what has now happened in Ange's career. Check out some of the comments on Ange around 29min30sec in !

Like other Aussie forumites here I've been following this man's career for more than a decade. I consider him a genius, he is the real deal, the full package.

He rocked up at Celtic without a full blow assistant management team under the wings - it was just him and a suitcase. And then he single handedly created the change a Celtic, and had them performing within a few short months.

When he was announced at Tottenham I thought "lucky them". Boys and girls, what you are witnessing now is just the start. Let him sign two or three of his players in the next transfer window, and then Tottenham will be really making music.

Considering that Woolwich, City, and Liverpool have to grind through the UCL, you may just be pleasantly surprised at the end of this season. I have no doubt though that next season Spurs will be a genuine contender.

Enjoy.
Cheers. We get tired of saying "Levy should back whoever", but need to say it again. I agree that with another two windows, and with time working with the squad, Spurs could well mount a title challenge next season.

I wondered if after he evaluated the league he would raid Celtic.

Kyogo is a great finisher if he can deal with the physicality of the league IMO he would score goals.

Son will need replacing in he next couple of seasons. Or at least having back up of a clinical finisher.

If we can get European football this season that is going to place more demands on the squad next season. And really City are next level. The rest of the league is playing amongst themselves.

29 points off them last season. Let’s see how we do this season.
If we can get to within 10 points of them in the league we are doing very well.

The right signings over the next two windows and we are we are definitely looking like a regular top 4 / ECL contender again. Not quite yet there if I’m being honest with myself.

That’s a big statement.

European football to contend with. A squad that falls apart towards the end of the season.
Played 4 home games and 2 away so far.
Currently 5th despite this extra help.

Definitely???

Wash your mouth out with soap and water and go and sit on the naughty step for 24 hours while watching that fruitloop Tai on AFTV and consider your words and actions.
I understand your sentiment and fair enough.

Just calling it as I see it, and (after all) the better Woolwich are, the better Spurs have to be to go there... dominate possession... arguably be the better team, away from home.

The better the opposition the better the result.

They destroyed PSV in the CL only days ago, which shows you where Spurs are now (more or less) in European reckoning.

I know it's Woolwich but I've always thought that talking the opposition down cheapens a good result.

He's so unifying . I can't recall any manager winning over every section of the fanbase. I'm not seeing cliques like I did with tenures of previous managers.

How does he change so much tactically so quickly? It's even more impressive as he doesn't bring a coaching team - so it's not like he's got an army to help him deliver a syllabus of sorts. And he's clearly not boring the players, in fact they're waxing lyrical about training sessions being fun and engaging.

If you see them as 100% in after 6 games for CL football that’s your view. Not saying your a closet gooner or anything.

:baletroll:

And we pretty much never win there. Any point at their place is hard fought. Not talking them down. Just will never talk them up. Fuckers.

I've speculated before that Ange may have determined NOT to raid Celtic out of respect for a club he clearly loves.

Having said that, it would be really interesting to see how Kyogo and Hatate went at Spurs. Kyogo is a lethal finisher at the perfect age and Hatate is a machine between the boxes (until he tires from so much running). Both could go up a level surrounded by better players.

Fair enough mate. No, I'm not a closet gooner... have a strong interest in Spurs because of Ange (like plenty of others). I won't say who my main team are but they're not from London and they never win anything (sigh).

Spurs give me a chance of some reflected glory... for fucking once.

The fact Kyogo signed a new contract made my eyes light up.

That sort of thing is a good indicator a deal is being talked about elsewhere. Celtic get more money for him should he move on.

Everyone’s happy. Well apart from Danny boy!!

Well that rules out Leicester so you’re fine with me!!

I wanna know what the record is outright
A quick look on wiki suggests ancelotti’s chelsea scored 2 or more in his first 6 games before a 3-1 defeat at Wigan . Peps Man City also did it in 6 successive games before a 2-0 loss at whl- leaving Shakespeares Leicester with the record of scoring 2 or more in their first 7 prem games before a 1-0 defeat to Woolwich

Love the username. Fellow Wanderer here.

Yep. Brilliant leaders are very rare. It's why they are paid so much.

Kyogo would be a good signing as a backup to Son/occasional starter and I'm pretty sure would still score goals at this level, at least within an Angeball team. His movement is genuinely elite, and with Madison feeding him...

I love Hatate and he's such a fun player to watch, at his best a bit of a poor man's Modric in style. But he's fairly inconsistent and I don't know that he improves on any of our current CMs, even factoring in potential.

The player I think would be worth looking at is Matt O'Riley. He's 22 with good potential IMO. On the verge of being called up for the Danish senior side. Lead the Scottish League in assists and chances created last season. 4 goals and 2 assists so far this year.

He played a similar role for Celtic under Ange as Madders is playing now, so as an initial backup he'd be a smart signing. Is he better than Lo Celso is right now? Maybe not/it's tough to say, as Giovani would likely put up some pretty impressive numbers in the SPL too, but I do think O'Riley has greater upside and probably better fits Ange's system. His defensive work is also very underrated and he's an amazing teammate, always the first and most enthusiastic congratulating teammates when they score.

Fuxache aaargh! It's murder living next door to rich neighbours! You come flash your cash and we sell the family silver! Aaargh! The only thing I thought was big about Ange was his name! We knew heehaw about him but by god he had us believing even during the early losses we could see the trasformation. In regards to Kyogo he will be no-ones sub, the guy is electric and fantastic! Hatate is just wonderful, sublime, visonary. However you forgot to mention Duracell! Maeda not the most skilled but an engine like his I have never seen before, defenders worry about him, managers double up on him, his relentlesness is astonishing! I know you will put in bids and that greedy wank Lawwell will take the cash every time. For the first time ever I watched a full English game on Sunday, now that I am a Spurs fan 😳 the Ange effect! Ps is Woolich the arse n all?

I just want to apologize to Ange for not having the courage to watch the game live yesterday. I suppose I'm just waiting for it to go tits up, as it usually does for us.
I still can't quite believe it that we have unearthed the perfect manager for us and he seems to genuinely want to be here.
Heaven knows, we've kissed enough frogs in the past, have we found our Prince Charming, at last?
I love how he's just brought everyone and everything together in such a short space of time. Considering what a mess we were, it's nothing short of miraculous.
Tits up Mrs P ?

Don’t join us in the gutter, it will shatter many an illusion / perception
