Management Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

is it a minority or majority that don’t want him? Mourinho and Conte big name managers that played shit football and left us in a bad state. Fans have been crying out for attractive attacking football and I promise you that Postecoglu is the man to deliver it. Redknapp and poch were both managers that left the fans feeling short changed upon their appointments but look how they turned the team around and got the fans onside. Give this guy a chance!

Alot mentioned bout Ange's record in the CL with Celtic.

XG nerds will tell you that it's likely a different story.
On the one hand that's very interesting and relevant, cheers for sharing. It's not quite as bad as it looks, and this helps explain why Ange's reputation among Celtic fans and tactics nerds has survived his poor CL results. They've been in the fight in these games, no mean feat for a Scottish side.

On the other hand, any time you're getting into that 2.5 xG territory, that means you're allowing a bunch of chances and allowing a clinical team the chance to bury you.

They allowed more chances than they got from the "open game" trade most of the time against the better opposition.

Now, Celtic against Real Madrid is a bigger quality deficit than even our crappy squad is going to face in the PL. But still, we're putting ourselves in a position to take a real tonking from the better sides.

At the end of the day though? To Dare Is To Do.

I agree that Kane and son are both dreadful pressers at this stage in their careers but for different reasons.

Kane just rarely is willing to move anymore as he conserves energy for attacking. He’s an ok presser when he commits to it. He’s not quick but he’s at least smart about it and strong enough to win the ball.
Not sure if that's true, Kane is in the top 10 for distance covered in the league and the top for strikers...

Misspending and spending with a plan that never lasts more than a year.

People say Conte was backed but he really wasn’t .

We picked up club signings that he didn’t want and didn’t use, then went too cheap on the big targets he wanted.

We never have the balls to go after really big targets and never pull them off.
Which points out why the Academy is important. Those lower priced players coming in frees up money to go for the big targets you want instead of dialing back one level off what other big clubs pursue.

Kane covers a lot of ground but it's more in the sense that he roams a large area of the pitch but not necessarily pressing to force a turnover or squeezing the opposition back.
He's not terribly fast and is a victim of the team's uncoordination.

And yeah, as a consequence of how deep he's so often forced to play in possession, he's frequently out of position as opposition build up's start.

But he puts the work in. He's not asked to be a cover-everybody animal out there, but he doesn't get Messi/Ronaldo treatment either.

I've always tried to find the positives in life and although I find this appointment as inspiring as mud, it does appear the Celtic fans rate the guy and hod him with great affection.

So it would be lovely if many of them kind of adopt us as their 'English Club' and grow our fanbase North of the border and across the Irish Sea

Hopefully some of them will join our community here. 🙏 and help enrich the place with their thoughts and their opinion

Heard some criticism about how he’s not good at developing and won’t play academy players. Can you comment?
I'm not who you asked but I can comment. It's a fair criticism. The caveat is that we basically don't have any players to develop. Anyone who shows real promise in our youth team is snapped up early by Liverpool/Bayern/Man City etc.

He has been giving game time recently to a couple of younger players but they are nowhere near ready.

That's fair- it bothers me though that we won't compete for top targets and always seem to be picking from the bargain bin.

The misspending is definitely worse than the lack of money. When a can't miss target has come along though, we rarely ever assert ourselves in pursuit of it.
If it's a "can't miss" target, more often than not we get outspent by the Chelseas and PSGs and Barcas and Bayerns. And even if we manage to compete on spending, these teams have much more pull than us and these "can't miss" players choose them over us.

Until we have re-established ourselves in the top 2-3 teams in the PL and consistently remain there we will be shopping in the tier below. So we have to be very astute with our signings, because that tier is the "could miss" one. We'll still spend a lot, but let's do so on the right players. That's what has disappointed me more than anything, as well as missing out on a number of "unknowns" that got snapped up for peanuts.

It's been 7 years since we have uncovered a gem of a player. That is not because we didn't spend; it's because we had lousy scouting and did a lousy job at evaluating players. In that time, Dortmund has signed a Sancho and a Haaland and a Bellingham (and probably a few others that I am missing). They don't spend a ton, but they spend well. That is what we need to start doing.

Don’t hold your breath. CEO is an utter pillock, most agents don’t want to deal with him, we have no data analysts, U23’s are garbage, the DOF the pillock employed is in jail and we don’t have a manager.

Dortmund are in an almost unique position.
They’re the second team in a one team league.
There really isn’t a third team.
There going to be a major destination for players that want to play in Germany that Bayern don’t want.

We could probably compete for Dortmund-like resources if Chelsea, United, Liverpool and Woolwich didn’t exist.
But the point is, Dortmund, even by the standards of the Bundesliga (and they are much MUCH better at this than the Premier League), is relentless about giving real, serious opportunities to young players. Being willing to RELY on young players.

They trust the system they've built, from scouting good enough players to allowing them the platform to flourish, to being willing to sell them on for the right price and open up opportunities for the next wave.

Meanwhile at Tottenham after Pape Sarr's promising display at the San Siro he did not play more than 4 minutes in a game until being inserted into Stellini's doomed XI at Newcastle two months and 14 days later. PEH played 90 plodding risk-averse minutes every time.

Everybody mouths the words of "oh, director of football, youth development, coherent system, modern recruitment department, blah blah blah".

From the lowliest poster here to the bald cunt himself, nobody really takes the implications of it seriously. On a scale of 1-10 of being that kind of football club we're a 1 and in the whole shiny training ground era have maxed out at maybe a 3 somewhere between Sherwood and like Year 2 Poch. Even that was totally half-assed.

Dortmund can afford to bed down players like Sarr annually because they attract enough talent and have little competition for UCL football.
It’s rather a luxury position and the fanbase know (and seem to accept) that the chances of them unseating Bayern are pretty rare.

Tottenham have none of those luxuries. Just look at at the thread reactions to playing Gil. Schrodinger’s Spurs fan: develop youngsters but be immune to the possible consequences of developing youngsters in the Prem every week.

Edited to add: we also have a mercurial chairman with a tendency to sack managers for not living up to his expectations. Does anyone believe Artwata would have lasted under Danny?
