It is all about buy in
The problem is, how do you get players to buy into your idea's if they don't work?
He could come in and make all sorts of promises of attacking gung ho football, but when we leak goals left right and center, and lose instead of win, those players will stop buying in PDQ.

Celtic in the CL group stages - 2 points, 4 goals, 15 against.
This is what concerns me. He's gonna probably have the same shitty defence we have now.
I think our fans really don't get why Mourinho, Nono and Conte all resorted to sitting deep. Our defence just isn't good enough to go for the kill in most games. And the midfield isn't much better.

I didn't want Poch before we got him. And tbh, after his first season, I still wasn't convinced.
He was at his very best with Mitchell signings like Dele, like Toby, like Son. Once Mitchell went, we resorted to signing Sissoko, Moura, Sanchez, Ndombele, GLC etc and it all fell apart for Poch.

I do think it was a perfect storm between 2016 and 2018. The right players in that system were great. The wrong players in that system were bad and he couldn't turn it around.

The major problem with Poch. And it was a major problem. He didn't speak English for nearly 18 months. Maybe more. Wouldn't take a presser for even longer.

I understand that it's hard to learn a foreign language but come on. Maybe that was another thing he learned from bielsa.

Once he mastered that he settled in better. He says as much in his book.

I love poch but the misgivings were fair in this regard.

I hate to say this but I'd rather this guy in charge than poch this season. Main reason being I never want poch to smear his beautiful record at Spurs. Best time I've ever had supporting them.

And I was a season ticket holder under Christian Gross. So that's saying something.

The kick in the nuts is he's at Chelsea. They don't deserve him.

Hi, i have been keeping an eye on this forum since Ange started getting linked to the job. My hope as a celtic fan would be that Spurs find a bigger name manager and we get to keep Ange. The more time passes the more it seems like this could be a goer.

So i wanted to let you know some thoughts.

Ange came to celtic after Eddie Howe pulled out at the last minute after months of it being a "done deal". He came in through the covid period and immediately found a scottish media desperate to hang him out dry. Majoiry of celtic fans were disappointed dropping from Howe to an unknown, but after finding out a bit about him, we willing to give him a chance (much like many on here seem prepared to do)

After a slow start, Ange pretty quickly put is mark on the team, and the football we started to play is the best i have ever seen. Better than Rodgers team, Martin O'Neill etc. He has no time for players who dont want to be at the club, regardless of reputation, he wants guys who want to be there and its a team ethic over individuals.

His recruitment has been very good, but this is due to him having a clear idea of how he wants the team to play (inverted full backs, fast paced posesion football).

What i have noticed is that better footballers excel under him and ever a lot of average players are improved.

Ange also is very good with the media, and he represents the team well, he can put out fires really well and gets everyone pulling in the right direction.

Lastly, a couple of things, The guys who run celtic, are pretty good a what the do. The Chairmans son worked for the City group for a long time (he has now joined celtic) and it was this relationship that led us to Ange after Eddie Howe (who most people agree would also have been a good appointment.

The City group know football.. Scott Munn was part of this and he will know the candidates linked with the job. Conte and Mourinho were world class managers, but from an outsider, they didnt fit the spurs model. Spurs need someone willing to make the place better, the team better and not sit about grumpy that you dont have the money Man City or Chelsea do.
Thank you for this mate. Gonna go read up a whole lot about him now. I think I’m warming up to him!

The major problem with Poch. And it was a major problem. He didn't speak English for nearly 18 months. Maybe more. Wouldn't take a presser for even longer.
He was interviewed in English in the video that announced him as manager.

Very poor English, to be fair, but he spoke to the press in English from day 1 here, albeit with occasional ad-hoc translation by Jesus Perez sitting next to him.

He did get better as the years went on, unsurprisingly.

But in his first 18 months he connected with the squad in a way no one here has since, that's for damn sure.

I think our fans really don't get why Mourinho, Nono and Conte all resorted to sitting deep. Our defence just isn't good enough to go for the kill in most games. And the midfield isn't much better.
I totally agree with this, but I also think the only way out is through.

You could imagine Ange being a noble failure future managers here are grateful for, because whatever the problems he transitioned the squad away from cowardly anti-football.

Speaking of Poch, I feel like everybody should go and read the first few pages of his thread on here
That is true but I feel the concerns of fans are slightly more warranted in this situation.

Pochettino had proven to some degree that he could cut it in both the PL and La Liga.

His Saints side and indeed his Espanyol side were punching way above their weight playing exciting, front foot football.
Spurs fans were burnt from the Ramos fiasco and immediately Poch was compared to him but when you really peeled back the layers, Poch was a very very promising young manager that proved to be an excellent choice. It would be akin to De Zerbi getting the job now, which most fans would be delighted with.

Ange is just completely unproven at any kind of high level of football , he’s been a manager since 1996 and is nearly 60 years old. It’s just unquantifiable how different a scenario it is to Pochettino.

Some of you cunts need to get over yourselves...take a look at the Pochettino thread and take a note of all the fucking experts running him down before he even set foot in the door...

This guy is the best we can do at the minute and I've had a gut full of born winners shitting on my club...
Sure… you can also take a look at Nuno thread and take a note of all the happy clappers saying he’s a good appointment and them barking louder than a chihuahua at those who said it’s a shit one.

Incoming dickwads unhappy with this appointment even though they have never seen his team play and know literally nothing about him

There are zero guarantees.

Some examples of players who completely flunked.

Ndombele
Keita
Torres at Chelsea
Hazard at Madrid. (Who thought that possible?)
Lukaku

The same with managers.

We are trying to talk ourselves into believing there is this perfect manager out there for us and that person can only be the person we all think it should be, not that we are all agree on that anyway.

Let's just sit back, relax and take a deep breath..

Never heard of him until now.

He seems to have the right qualities that we are looking for. But his experience at a high level is a bit underwhelming. However that doesn’t mean he can’t work here.

Hard to see Kane/son working in a high intensity system. Maybe 1 of the 2 but not together.

Didn’t know much about him a few weeks back but what I’ve seen recently on the internet etc I find rather underwhelming- his interviews and team talks all seem a bit cliched and corny - watched a bit of Scottish football and the standard is not great and the recruitment to Celtic may have been enough to win them a treble but very few of their players would get in a decent prem team - lastly Gerrard looked awesome at Rangers but was absolutely useless at Villa
Hope I’m wrong but it’s a no from me and having forked out over a grand on a season ticket I’d probably be looking for a refund
