Management Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He’s articulate , affable . funny and charismatic in press conferences ; but Peter Sellers could have done that ….probably better than Bill Nic back in the day …..

But I know who I would have wanted managing the football team . …
Jossie or Roy Race or Cherie Lunghi (for the shower scene)

I don't what stage this is, but we're now happy about the manager for saying something different despite offering the same shit result. If only they gave points in the league for pressers, we'd win the league by a mile.
The only people happy with anything are the ones that were waiting for our first bad result so they could take the opportunity to drag everyone else down into depression.

Those are the people loving this result, it couldn’t have been better for them.

Ange taking responsibility for the players not finishing.

Imagine Conte or Jose doing that.

It's all well and good him taking responsibility but what has he actually done to remedy it since the end of last season?

See it's very easy to say things like "It's on me" or "we need to fix (insert thing here)" but when you are seeing the same thing week in week out you start to wonder is it all a bunch of bluster and bullshit.

I just think he is out of his depth personally, would love to be proven wrong but I don't think I will be in this instance.

Not playing shite like we have for the last 10 - 15 games.

Stick the tippy tappy bollocks where the sun don't shine.
We played really good football for long chunks of that game and you could hear the reaction from the away fans.

Obviously the result and the 15 min collapse puts a totally different filter on things but it doesn’t change the fact that we were unlucky not to be 3-0 up at HT

Sounds like you're referring to yourself there as you seem delighted with what your gaffer has said after more points dropped.

What actions are you hoping to see?

If we finish chances next week is that the sign of action from a coach?
I mean, we still finished chances last season but for the most part we have been wasteful and more importantly the bigger issue is at the other end of the pitch and our sunday league level of defending which led to a huge amount of goals against last season and it looks like that issue is carrying over.

This is why I believe it's a system problem and a management issue.

Fully disagree.

I really enjoyed watching us play for most of that game and saw different patterns, some new ideas. Maddison was buzzing around and pinging crossfield balls.

But we didn’t take chances and football is cruel when you don’t. Then we collapsed for 15mins and didn’t manage to really get going after Bentancurs injury

We made a mistake today but generally looked solid. Set pieces we looked solid which was much better than last year. They didn’t get shit on the break.

Wouldn’t have been an issue if we’d finished one of the other chances we made

I have had grave concerns from before Christmas last year really that he’s just out of his depth. There’s a reason why he’s pushing 60 and this is his first shot at the big time. Equally we are in a bit of a bind after all our chopping and changing with mangers where we have to give him a go and I really do hope my instincts are wrong and it does work out.

Last season can be broken down into two parts really. We had a fast start/new manager bounce over first 10 games, picked up 26 points out of 30 and were top of the table. That’s an average of 2.6 points a game. After that, 40 points out of 84 over last 28 games, as teams figured us out, a rate of just over 1.4 points a game. 28 games is a long time to be on a poorish enough run of form.

I’m always wary of a manger who’s a slave to a system and doesn’t really have a Plan B. The you score 3, we score 5 approach is grand with Celtic, or in Japan or Australia but this is a hard nosed league and our defensive play and structure has been so poor now for so long. I just don’t get a sense of learning from mistakes and addressing shortcomings.

It wasn't a 15 min collapse, it was a failure to take our chances throughout the entire game which led to us conceding a goal that cost us the win, again, a system issue that makes us vulnerable to conceding very poor goals which has been a consistent issue under Ange.

We could make excuses for every single result ever in football to defend poor results the way you have just done "We could have been" "We might have been" "If we had" sure, sometimes luck really does play a part in any sport but it's the exception not the rule Richard.

Eh?

Not taking chances is a system issue?

If the system creates chances then it’s working.

No team goes through a game against any opponent without giving up chances. We gave 2 chances today and conceded from 1. Because we hadn’t taken one of the many we created we paid for that with 2 points.

As for luck and exceptions to rules, I genuinely have no clue what you were saying there. It was like reading a sentence from a Joe Biden debate
