Management Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I think they will stick with him, doubt the club will finish high, but I don't think that bothers levy or ENIC they couldn't care less.
Agreed. Levy has been able to get a break from the criticism he was getting when Conte, Nuno, and Mourinho were here. Postecoglou has put on a good show on the pitch and is an entertaining character off it. That's not enough for us here on this board, but most fans are not that hard core about it. If you took a poll of the paying customers, they are more happy than that. That makes it easy to stay with Postecoglou.

Did you read my preceding post at all, I already addressed this before - Ange has to take small blame for this performance.

Small blame? Lol

But these same players were playing like Barcelona for 45 mins, you weren't complaining then were you and rightly so...the team he picked was more than capable of doing the job, what happened after was inexplicable and something that should be shouldered on the players more than the manager.

Answer me this. Who is responsible for the half time team talk and any tactical changes? Also, who is responsible for making (or in this case not making) any tactical changes during a game?

If we play really well in the first half and come out in the second half playing like a bunch of puppets after the managers team talk, surely that's on the manager?

What an incredibly stupid argument. None of us here are "better managers" than Tim Sherwood or Frank Lampard either, doesn't mean we can't critique them or call their decisions fucking moronic.
You have a few people on here that can barely form a logical argument that are questioning his intelligence.

There’s been some valid criticisms and then some ridiculous ones from sources that typically add very little.

We can't put two wins together in the league mate, others are better than us.
i know. but surely levy is looking at it now and will be thinking of his next move. hes backed this guy far harder than he should have, another levy fuckup! this money should have been spent with conte in charge not this pleb. the results since chelsea have been shite, on top of that hes embarrassing himself in the press with his comments on numerous things. he must be under pressure now. levy has backed this guy far harder than any other manager...hell be expecting CL football as a result, theres no chance of that happening, he needs to act soon. this squad is capable, the manager isnt.

Obviously the manager but this is a silly argument really, the manager can only do so much before the players step out onto the pitch

Players aren't robots mate, they all should take some responsibility - unless you think that players shouldn't ever take any responsibility whilst on the pitch and they need to be coached through the game at all times? Like how can anyone legislate for our captain allowing players to run off him, or for our players to stop pressing...if players who are on circa £100k a week honestly need their hands held for 90 mins by our coach then we really have problems.

This is a bit of a pointless debate because you're not gonna change your mind but looking at that match I don't see how anyone can put full blame on the manager for that 45 mins is hilarious sorry.

Edit - Like look at this shit, no manager should ever need to tell our players what to do here - we had 6 vs 3 here in our favour by the way.

This result?? I literally gave you our form over the previous 12 calendar months and explained why he's not good enough based on that.

Look, I get it. Ange is a fun guy who says "mate" a lot, but the form table blatantly tells us he's not good enough. Take your head out of the sand and embrace reality

Cool I came in here talking about the result in isolation, you responded to me talking about our form over 12 months - I fail to see the correlation but of course you're going to throw the form in there because it suits your agenda, I get it.

True they are the support base that levy wants in the ground, eat and drink, but not overly concerned about seeing the club push on similar to levy in that aspect.

At xmas you look at the table and thats where there or thereabouts you will finish come end of the season with tolerance of one or two places. If by xmas were 7th or below then Ange has to win a trophy come end of season. Otherwise he will be out of the door. Just get vibe with Ange hes adamant his system works but needs to tweak it a bit.

2-0 up, why not drop the line and nullify Brightons pace and look to counter?

Why continue the same high line and risks that come with it.
That's just who we are mate.
Udogie is struggling on the pitch both from a technical aspect and mental aspect. How is he not the first player subbed off?
Udogie was quite clearly not fit. Insane decision not to start either Spence or Gray, both of whom have been in great form recently. Then there's also the option of VDV, bringing Dragusin into CB, or Davies and playing him as a more conventional fullback. Lots of options but that would involve some lateral thinking and flexibility from our resident clown-in-a-suit, which we all know he's incapable of.

I don't think the players can run Ange's press for 90 minutes without stopping, and I don't think it's good enough for Ange to think that a failure to do so is down to the players simply not being "competitive" enough.

Honestly I think a good bit of the dallying around with the ball at the back is the CBs taking time to give the rest of the team a chance to catch their breath and walk upfield at a slow pace. That or the team is actually so tired they can't immediately run into motion and offer immediate outlets to the CBs/GK.

I think Ange needs to be more aggressive with subbing the key pressers in our press, or to adopt a style where he allows the team to sag off the press and employ a temporary mid-low block while they catch their breath and recover a bit. If he's asking to have the most athletic and talented attacking team in the EPL of course we are gonna struggle to provide him with that while having to compete financially against the usual suspects.

I don't really think he's capable of, or willing to change his style though. I'm worried about what this portends for the rest of our season, especially in the league where we are struggling mightily right now.

Agree we rushed udogie back. Such a shit mistake he conceded for first goal. Pub defending.

Not hanging him yet. I think he’ll learn and adapt from this

Not sure he will learn but think he will get the whole season.

It also gives us time to consider alternatives.

We have a top 6 squad and anything less is failure in my book.

Postecoglou is certainly not good enough to get our players into the top 3. 4th and 5th seen out of reach to me.

Right now I feel we will finish 6th to 8th. The squad lacks a strong midfielder and another striker.

And I am unsure if the manager can instill the right mentality.

Agree with some of that. Judge him at end of season. A Trophy or top 4 for me otherwise hes failed and we then need to hire a modern elite Manager. Atm hes falling short but still earlyish in season.

I thought he was pretty measured in his post-match analysis considering the appalling collapse.

Everything was ‘we’ rather than digging out individuals.

I agree though, in that he should have reacted with the subs far earlier than he did.
He may have said 'we', but he clearly meant the players, not himself.

Anyway, for all that, I'm still personally very hopeful on Ange, and mindful of how long it took Klopp and Arteta to build a strong team.

We're seeing Angeball in fits and starts. The consistency will come, maybe still one or two signings away though.
