No, you said Maresca is doing better than Poch did, so how can you make that comparison?

Also not sure you can do a cold comparison between Poch and Postecoglou based on last season, you said a few days ago different club, different circumstances.

Because he's currently doing better, look at Chelsea league placement compared to last season, goals scored, conceded underlying metrics etc...

If you work out the circumstances that both manager had to deal with last season then you can make an educated guess and come up with a conclusion that one manager had it harder than the other one.

You consistently find and make excuses for other managers more than you're ever willing to do for ours.

Firstly - getting from 12th-6th is easier than getting from 8th into the top 4 - you know it is. The competition gets harder the further you move up the table. No way in hell you would be saying any manager of ours did a good job to do what Poch did, you would say they did the minimum expected.

Secondly, Poch's league opponents were also easier than the ones now -

I rated and still rate Poch and think he has proven himself to be a very capable PL manager - think he was batshit crazy to take the Chelsea Job when he did and also think if he had stayed on they would be likely performing on par with them under the new manager.

But lets be real.- you're weighting your opinion on the situations though your negative spurs tinted glasses

Oh no not all of ours - just this one, I don’t rate him.

oh that’s good because Ange didn’t get top 4 lol .. 8th to 5th harder than 12th to 6th? I dunno man. Sounds wrong. We were top 4 the season before we finished 12th and we only finished 8th due to two caretaker coaches.

Uh ok, sure ..

Bring back King Poch and watch me back my man to the hilt, not this Aussie pretender.

My manager got Spurs to a CL final and top 4 was the minimum expectation, your manager could get 5th this season and his cheerleaders would act like it was genius again.

Speaking on events which happened before Covid is funny, a lot has happened since then...What has Poch done since then which makes you think that he's still the same manager today?

Uh yeah, gaining enough points to finish above Brentford, Palace and Fulham is more difficult than getting enough points to finish above Liverpool, Arsneal and CIty.

We were top 4 before we finished 12th? Freudian slip there perhaps lol -

Ok .. but we didn’t achieve 4th lmao. Villa did. I guess give Emery a statue? Villas squad worth and wage total is way lower. He took over them when they were battling relegation..

Poch went 12th>6th
Ange went 8th>5th

How is going from 12th to 6th easier than going from 8th to 5th? Fucking what kind of batshit logic lmao.

Chelsea were 3 points behind us. With a cup final. And another semi final. And Pochettino had about 200 players to get to settle, which he progressively achieved across the season and their results reflected this.

Chelsea sacked them because their ambitions as a football club absolutely dwarf us, 5th or 6th is failure to them regardless of any context, they don’t accept excuses from the coaches there rightly or wrongly. Ange would have got his P45 there.

No it really isnt considering how incredibly poorly the under performed with the resources they had the previous year.

They didn't drop 30 points because they had shit players or coaches - they lost and drew so many games where they were absolutely the favourite - they massively, massively underperformed by every metric in 22/23 considering the cost of their squad and the wages they were on - as they also did last year.

Lol as if we didn’t massively underperform finishing 8th and hadn’t been 4th the season before and a regular top 4 club not long before that and in a CL final.

Poch took over a fucking mess. A trillion players he didn’t pick. Tuchel (a top class coach) couldn’t cope with it. Poch finally did start to get things purring and lost his job because that’s the reality of Elite clubs. Just progress isn’t enough.

Anyway going round in circles. Poch is a better coach than Ange imo. Ange won’t be getting offers from PSG and Chelsea when his time inevitably ends here.

LOL mate come on - us finishing on 60 points with our squad is nothing like Chelsea finishing 12 on 44 with theirs that season - not even close.

I think it’s clear the club has decided that success will be measured more fully in coming years than immediately.

Of the four main players brought in during the window there was Dom, then three 18/19 year olds.

The year before the average age was about 22.

If you think you can bring in that age profile and have guaranteed immediate success in the premier league you’re being very optimistic.

The improvement from last year is there to see. Needs to keep stepping up. Think next year will be the balls to the wall year when add in another senior player to plug specific identified gaps and the youngsters have more experience.

must say how much I am disapointed so far with Bergval .Trumpeted as one of the best young players in Europe and Real Madrid wanted him but so far he looks way off.He is young but a lot of youngsters show more than he is at the moment.
As usual people got carried away proclaiming him the next big talent based on no actual knowledge of him

He's young and got a long way to go , may turn out good , may not

But he was never going to be ready to come straight into our team and make an impact

Same for Gray

Our summer window was diabolical

Wow!!!

Talk about smacking the nail firmly on the head.👏👏

Exactly this....8th to 5th with no cup runs and no European football would be viewed as a pathetic return by any other big 6 club or club of comparible wealth.....By the board and by the fans.
Yet bizarrely we're supposed to view it as some kind of success!!!!

Loser mentality personified.

You lack so much context man lol

So far this season we're 16 points and +11 GD. Poch's second season after 10 rounds we were 17 points and +8 GD.

Ange's first season we got 66 points and +13 GD, Poch's first season 64 and +5 GD.

Ange took over a side that had scored 60 points and +7 GD the previous season, Poch 69 points and +4 GD.

Yes we need to improve but so did Poch's side at the same stage.

Yeah this is exactly why I don't understand the absolute vitriol a certain section of the fan base hold towards the manager.

They would have sacked Poch by now - just as he went on the best run Spurs have had in decades.

It's just weird. Why not wait, support, hope - until the end of the season at least. Or even fucking March. So strange.

Yes Poch, the manager who was too gutless to drop the injured Harry Kane to the bench for the CL final and start Moura instead who was in great form. King Poch be fucked! The ribbing from the bin-dippers was unreal, everyone knew Kane was struggling except Poch obviously!

I think the biggest difference between Poch and Anges first 15 months is really fan expectation.

Back when Poch took over, the last time we'd won a trophy was 6 years prior. We'd only qualified for the CL just once in our history and we also weren't a financial juggernaut. City didn't have Pep. Liverpool were more of a mess than us. Woolwich were on their late Wenger downfall and United were still shit.

Fast forward today. We're now 16 years without a trophy. We have qualified for the CL so much that we feel it should be the norm. We are financial juggernauts. We pay very expensive season tickets yet we are at the same stage we were at in Pochs early tenure. 10 years on. City have Pep, Liverpool are one of the best teams in the world again. Woolwich are much more competitive etc.

If Anges seasons has been transported to 14/15 and 15/16 (so far) I don't think many would be complaining much. But I think everyone's comparisons to any manager lead back to what Poch achieved in a completely different time and era for football in general.

But there really is no true context when people froth at the mouth towards their own club these days.

Ange took over an absolute mess. A club in 8th. Protests at its very door. A neglected squad full of players that perhaps suited dinosaur managers and their negative brand of shit we were served up for four years. And then on top of that, losing the clubs best ever goalscorer on the eve of the competition. A team that was one of the oldest. Didn't know how to press a button, let alone form a coherent one on the pitch.

And managed to not only reduce the overall age of the squad (whilst making it stronger in the mean time) but completely transform the way we play.

Still inconsistencies. Always will be with a young squad, but the underlying stats haven't been better in a long time. We're defending better. We're attacking better. We are righting plenty of wrongs from last season. And we look to be heading in the right direction.

Ultimately Ange might not be the man who takes us where we all want to be. But he will certainly leave us in a better position squad and style wise for the next man who takes over. Unlike the absolute shit show he had to inherit and change.
