Iraola will face the same constraints and though he's doing well at B'mouth, has he got the aura to help him overcome those & achieve big things at Spurs? History would suggest we'll be back here in 12-18 months saying he's failed & gotta go.

My pick would be Zidane - you can't get any bigger, he'd be such a huge coup and give such a crazy instant boost to the whole place. I can't see how our players - even the shit, lazy ones - wouldn't wanna run through brick walls to impress the great man. Course we all know he's off to take over the France NT when Deschamps fucks off post WC2026, but still worth it. Never gonna happen anyway...zero chance Zizou would wanna work with Levy, regardless of how much is put in front of him wage-wise and all the (empty) promises the bald cunt would make.
I'm probably in the minority but I'd see if we could tempt Ernesto Valverde to take over in the summer when his Bilbao deal ends. If Iraola cannot be solved.

Not the out and out attacking football that a lot of fans want. But he's experienced both at the very top of the game with Barcelona and their circus. And successful with Athletic Bilbao, possibly the hardest club in the world to build a winning team with when you factor in their transfer strategy.

If not him then Marcelino (currently at Villareal) could be a good choice. He's mr. stable in the league and very good at cup football. Having won cups both at Bilbao and Valencia. And the Valencia one he won in spite of their owner actively trying to prevent it. But again the football may not be what the fans would necessarily want.

Said before I am just about onside with Southgate if the contract was structured right. Namely directly incentivizing him to win the Europa League, so a 6 month contract that automatically renews for a further 2 years if we win the Europa League and are not relegated. Otherwise the club have an option, but not an obligation, to renew and can walk away for free if we so choose.

I think we'd be shite with Southgate, but if he won the EL that's all that would matter. Winning the EL is paramount at this point. Unlikely, but it's the most important thing we can do (and always was, but has only grown moreso).

Mate, Southgate could barely win football games with the best team in Europe. England have been terrible under him the last 4 years, regardless of where we got to in three tournaments. We got there through mostly having far superior players to most teams we played.... and he still struggled more than not and got tactically outsmarted by so so many coaches its unreal.

I would rather puke on my balls than see him.manage us

If you actually analyse Ange's appointment from a distance, it's fucking weird. He's never managed in an elite league and doesn't work with a consistent coaching staff, so he's assembling a team of novice coaches from scratch to help him compete at the highest level. It's bizarre.
Its incredible given that apparently one of the reasons they rightly didnt want Ten Hag in June 2021 was that he didnt want to bring any coaches with him and they thought that was weird. Then this bloke turns up with a few randoms he's picked up at motorway service stations on the way down and we're all over it. I guess that proves first and foremost he's a salesman, not a coach.

Did was I was just about there.

My preferences have been stated repeatedly.

  1. Iraola
  2. Silva
  3. Frank
  4. Mason until the end of the season
  5. Potter
  6. Southgate on a 6 month contract that renews if we win the EL and fucks him off if we don't.

With a few hours’ distance, I do feel for the guy - clearly out of his depth and dealt a tricky hand. However, for the sake of our club, we have to get a more skilled coach in.

This is his ‘big ticket’ and it’s not worked out. He’s not like Mourinho, Conte - they could do what they wanted.

I thought Southgate had retired from football.

Although that may just be wishful thinking.

It worked out well at Celtic because well, they are Celtic playing in the Scottish league. And Celtic keep a in house coaching staff that whoever is coach just supplements.
