People actually think The Fa cup more prestigious than the UEFA/Europa.

Yeah mate, who wants a competition with teams like Manchester City and Liverpool involved when you can play Bodo Glimt in a semi final, Rangers can get to the final and your biggest obstacle is Eintracht fucking Frankfurt.

God some people are ludicrously thick.

Trophy cabinets don’t remember the teams you played on the way.

Countless FA Cups have been won by teams that didn’t play all the toughest teams en route

The highest prestige competitions involve the best teams. A competition which excludes all the best teams by nature isn't more prestigious than one which includes all the best teams in England from the start, this is such a ridiculous conversation.

Even under Poch we used to treat the FA cup with ten times the respect we did the EL. Most teams do unless they need the CL ticket, it's a non-starter.

Admitting this doesn't make the EL unimportant or rubbish - it would be an amazing thing for the club to win. A fucking league cup would be amazing for us, the same way Newcastle celebrated it like it was the champions league.

And yet, we didn't win either so considering how good that team was, it can't be that easy to win either.

Cool, so let's just leave it there and not get caught up about prestige

The EL? Mate we treated it with contempt under Poch. We rotated our entire team to Dortmund in I think a quarter final, and rotated heavily vs Gent/Genk whoever the other time we were in it .. the rest of the time we were a champions league calibre team. It was also stronger then as CL teams dropped in to it.

It's all about priorities.

Maybe that wasn't such a good idea then. Imagine the way we'd look at that Poch team if they'd won the EL...Imagine what it would have done for the club's reputation.

Very little. Do people think Villareal are a huge club because they won it? United have won it recently .. how much did it do for them? Or Sevilla who are now perpetually mid-table after winning it numerous times. It would be a wonderful memory for fans but if anyone thinks winning a EL is a golden ticket for our rep or a rebuild they're wrong.

Getting to a CL final, beating Madrid etc did much more for our reputation as a big, competitive European team. Far more eyes on the champions league and you're trading with the best.

I agree we would look back on the Pochettino years differently if we had won something.

Winning is a habit.

Getting to a CL Final and losing only cemented the idea that this club doesn't know how to get over the line and actually win things.

Except for the legion of teams who have won stuff and then don't again ... it's only ever a habit when you happen to also be a brilliant team on the cusp of something, loads of sides have won domestic cups, europas etc and then not done a thing afterwards. We played one of them in the QF.

Meh, maybe it did, but it also cemented us as a genuine competitor for the biggest prize in club football. It's like comparing winning a nations league to getting to a world cup final.

Nah there isn't a Europa League comp for international football really.

If there was it would be more like winning the Euros or reaching the WC Final... but even then, it's probably easier to win the WC than the Euros.

Its not some success. We are very close to our first major trophy in decades.

Ange came into this club and promised to shake the Spurs loser attitude and turn us into a trophy winning team. It seems most fans on this forum value top 4 above any trophy - and that has historically been our issue - Top 4 is the only ambition - get the TV Champs League money, but its not worth risking the investment required to try and win the thing.

YES. 17th is a disgrace. BUT, Ange has laid the foundations and shown LEVY and the board that this team IS CAPABLE. We can achieve success - but if you want it across multiple competitions, you need a proper squad.

Ange has shown the board - You can have a trophy; or you can have top 4. You can't have both if you expect u21's to be a major part of the squad.
This fanbase will absolutely take anything resembling progress at this point.n
We're hungrier than a bluegill that'd bite on a bare hook. Sad what Levy and Angie have done to Tottenham Hotspurs Fans

Pathetic how Angie Levy have Absolutely destroyed Tottenham Hotspurs Fans hopes and expectations. At this point we're hungrier than bluegill that'd bite on a bare hook. Desperation beyond reason is what Levy and Angie have provided

no one outside of england gives a shit about the FA cup....and barely anyone in england does, the best teams dont take it seriously anymore.

no domestic cups are more prestigious than the europa league. domestic cups are domestic cups...the europa league is the whole of europe.

90% of fans for any club would be taking europa league over a domestic cup.

taking away CL qualification, the europa league is far better for a club to attract players to the club than a domestic cup.

That’s sad given some of the great finals we’ve been in over the years but I agree with you!

This is ridiculous sorry, because last night everyone was ready to jump on him due to his "weird" team selection in which he clearly planned for Bodo which was to physically out do them and it worked, that's not on the players...they didn't pick the team, the manager did.

You can want the manage gone but acknowledge that he's not a good coach and not right for the club...you're allowed to hold two schools of thought.it's okay.

Lets be fair in our appraisal just like our with our criticism.

I can acknowledge that he’s not completely useless in certain moments but I’m also holding the belief that his overall coaching is underwhelming, and the club deserves more than just tactical one-offs.

We have seen him adapt a few times to get us wins so it’s not completely alien but I am reluctant to praise someone and give credit to someone who, more often than not, actively harms the club with his approach.

How much longer do we give credit for fleeting moments of success when the broader picture is a managerial failure that doesn’t improve after multiple opportunities?

We can’t ignore the persistent issues that are costing us in the long run just because we happened to beat a team we should be beating comfortably imo.

So, yeah, I’m open to criticism of my own views, but at the same time, let’s not ignore the bigger picture is what I am saying.

Also, just to add to the above, I find it hard to believe Ange has had much impact on our performances in the EL when you consider how poor we have been in the PL; it seems more likely to me that our overall quality has seen us through the EL and has little to do with the manager (although I will give credit and say that against Bodo, he did set us up quite well, I will concede that.)

It's sad that people can't enjoy a win and letting their agendas dictate their feelings.

I really wonder if people will be happy if we win this comp or pissed off that Ange has managed to prove them wrong...people who put their whole ego before the club they claim to support STINK
Well I can only speak for myself and say that I have said multiple times I would be delighted to see us win the EL and my post history shows that.

I also don’t see us winning it as Ange proving anybody wrong.

That’s where I have settled on it tbh, anybody who cares more about Ange than us winning a trophy should probably step away and take a breath.
