Getting to a CL Final and losing only cemented the idea that this club doesn't know how to get over the line and actually win things.
Except for the legion of teams who have won stuff and then don't again ... it's only ever a habit when you happen to also be a brilliant team on the cusp of something, loads of sides have won domestic cups, europas etc and then not done a thing afterwards. We played one of them in the QF.
Meh, maybe it did, but it also cemented us as a genuine competitor for the biggest prize in club football. It's like comparing winning a nations league to getting to a world cup final.

Nah there isn't a Europa League comp for international football really.
If there was it would be more like winning the Euros or reaching the WC Final... but even then, it's probably easier to win the WC than the Euros.

I can acknowledge that he’s not completely useless in certain moments but I’m also holding the belief that his overall coaching is underwhelming, and the club deserves more than just tactical one-offs.
We have seen him adapt a few times to get us wins so it’s not completely alien but I am reluctant to praise someone and give credit to someone who, more often than not, actively harms the club with his approach.
How much longer do we give credit for fleeting moments of success when the broader picture is a managerial failure that doesn’t improve after multiple opportunities?
We can’t ignore the persistent issues that are costing us in the long run just because we happened to beat a team we should be beating comfortably imo.
So, yeah, I’m open to criticism of my own views, but at the same time, let’s not ignore the bigger picture is what I am saying.
Also, just to add to the above, I find it hard to believe Ange has had much impact on our performances in the EL when you consider how poor we have been in the PL; it seems more likely to me that our overall quality has seen us through the EL and has little to do with the manager (although I will give credit and say that against Bodo, he did set us up quite well, I will concede that.)
Well I can only speak for myself and say that I have said multiple times I would be delighted to see us win the EL and my post history shows that.
I also don’t see us winning it as Ange proving anybody wrong.
That’s where I have settled on it tbh, anybody who cares more about Ange than us winning a trophy should probably step away and take a breath.

There are bigger, better, more prestigious trophies than the EL.
But Tottenham have won 4 trophies in 41 years and 2 of those are the second rate domestic cup. It's delusional to think winning the EL wouldn't be a major accomplishment for us.
That said, it shouldn't even open the door to saving Ange's job. When the final whistle of the season is blown, he ought to be paying for his own transport home.
Personally, I think that the discontinuation of parachuting the CL dropouts into the EL and the new structure, has definitely made it easier for teams with tactically dubious managers, such as ourselves(and Manure etc) to advance well into the competition. I really hope we win, but it won't excuse our piss-poor PL season.
spurs before levy, was considered a big club because of the eufa cup. a lot of the teams that would win their league that year were in the eufa cup not the european cup. youve had years of the eufa cup where the biggest clubs are in the eufa cup, which is why they created the CL...the best team in europe that year were competing in the eufa cup. the competition has history, granted, its been diluted now, the FA cup isnt respected like it was in the 90s...bilbao have won the copa del rey more times than real madrid! but most people wouldnt know that as outside of spain its not cared for...just like the FA cup.
outside of the big 5 leagues, clubs would consider europa success a bigger achievement than a domestic league title.
You know there's a distinctive difference to how we have been setting up in the league compared to the last couple of matches in the EL, we aren't even playing 'Ange ball' in the EL really and certainly didn't do the other night.
Fans calling him to change his tactics to win matches, he's changed his tactics and we are winning matches and folk are still putting it on the players lol
I don't see our full backs go wondering into midfield as much as they did, I don't see our defensive line as high as it was, I don't see us playing out from the back as much, do you?
His overall coaching is poor and deserves the boot regardless of what happens for the rest of the season...but if we win it's down to everyone as it's a collective success not just the players...we can't have it both ways.

The most frustrating thing is that Liverpool lost a CL final, looked at where they fell short, invested, came back the next year and won it.
We lost a CL final, didn't invest, and spiralled into the oblivion we're in now.
It wasn't a vintage season by Poch by any means, and we were fortunate to reach the CL final if we're honest....but we were close to something great, you have to build on that. For whatever reason, Levy decided to go the other way...
we did invest! we spent 160m on ndombele, lo celso, bergwijn and sessegnon... 4 big money flops! clarke and gedson also decent sized outlays.
highlights how important it is to have people that know what they are doing in control of recruitment. we sold bale for a world record fee, bought 7 players and only eriksen was a real success...awful business. our recruitment has been poor for decades on the whole. when we did have a spell of getting it right we legit challenged for the big honours..other than that we got seriously lucky and struck gold a few times modric,bale, berbatov...and instead of capitalising on that we put them with bang average players! only spurs could have modric and bale and win fuck all! criminal waste.
we couldnt get maradona so got klinsmann....that pulling power has long gone.
to be fair, lo celso had ability but he wasnt robust enough for the prem...ndombele was a disgraceful piece of recruitment.
