Surly any EPL manager who has not been relegated is an EPL upgrade on 30+ turgid performances 22 of them loses resulting in a 38 point season. Sorry, I just can't see beyond this!!

One spell we haven't litigated to death on here were the four straight games at the end of his first season against Newcastle, Woolwich, Chelsea and Liverpool. In the thick of the top four race, not in any other competitions, and had Van de Ven, Romero and Vicario for all four.

Had deficits of 4-0, 3-0, 2-0 and 4-0, and despite a few consolation goals lost all four. That stretch is why Villa made the Champions League.

Outclassed against the top teams. Other than the continuation of Pep's Spurs curse, we didn't exactly overturn that issue this season either.
Yup.

Basically I'd build a statue for any cunt that guarantees we do the double over the Chavs. Fucking despise them. Pricks. What's Franks record like against them.... 🤔

I don’t think many fans think that at all, but it shouldn’t be used as the sole reason to retain a manager that has a dreadful record against superior opposition than faced in that cup run.

Other than the early stages of the domestic cups, all opposition to be faced in the 25/26 season will be of a much higher standard.

That was the post I replied to

5th season 1 and a European trophy in season 2 is more substance than Jose or Conte managed

It's unfair for sure, I don't want to beat him with that five year old stick.

But still, it's crazy that they didn't walk the Championship with that team.

Daniel Farke dragged Teemu Pukki and Oliver Skipp above them. Wild.

I think "that team" is viewed a little retrospectively. They scored the most goals that season but had no one of particular note in their defence. We're also talking about the younger, undeveloped version of those players.

Kind of like saying Leicester City were obviously title challengers in 15/16 as they had Schmeichel, Chilwell, Vardy, Mahrez, and Kante.

The thing that captivates me about Frank the most is his ability to develop so many top players

I want a coach who knows how to win. Winning breeds more winning.
For the record, I want Ange gone but why are we not trying to upgrade. Plenty of managers our there with better pedigree's than Frank. I don't think you can guarantee we finish bottom 3-4 again under Ange. You say it like it's a given clearly forgetting he finished 5th in his first season. How many ppg did Frank get against Spurs last season under shitty Ange?

LOL

"I don't think you can guarantee we finish bottom 3-4 again under Ange.".... I dont think club will allow Ange the same leeway even if he is once again taking us on the same path.

"You say it like it's a given clearly forgetting he finished 5th in his first season" - But you seem to forget that first season we had no Europe. Given Ange cant compete with PL & EL, you can forget he will make us compete in both PL & CL next season...

"How many ppg did Frank get against Spurs last season under shitty Ange?" - zero... But magically, same Frank finished 18 pts above Spurs, outscoring Spurs in the process and conceding less as well...Moral : We can all put out stats that can match our agenda....

For someone who wants Ange gone, you seem to want to hang on to him.

Frank is a decent option but I don't see why we have to appoint him now. Redknapp was a decent option once upon a time but we waited until it was untenable with Ramos first. That was arguably one of Levy's better decisions, to sack after 8 games.

Player very different. You have a 25 player squad and you only have one manager. You can take a few punts with players. Although we shouldn't be picking up the majority of our players from lower leagues. There is a reason they are playing in the lower leagues in the first place bar the odd 17 year old who looks like he might have a bright future.
Slot - inspired... 46, proven winner, shame we pissed him about when we had a serious chance of getting him.

We didnt piss about. Slot said his family not wanted him to take that job. Job was his , but he rejected us

The fact that I didn’t go to Spurs was 99% a family decision,” Slot revealed. “I told my children that they could still come to London during the holidays. My daughter replied, ‘But during the holidays I also want to do something with friends. I already thought going to Spurs was a big deal, because who goes from Feyenoord straight to Tottenham? But when Liverpool came last season, everything was completely different. No one gets higher than Liverpool

So, get your facts right...

5th season 1 and a European trophy in season 2 is more substance than Jose or Conte managed
If you were to repeat that statement to most football fans that had absolutely no other details of what’s happened over the last two seasons, then they’d think we were nuts to sack him…… but if you were then to add context to that statement there’s a fair chance they’d change their mind!

I don't necessarily think Frank is the absolute best option out there we could get, but what the fuck is that list? Jaissle is in Saudi, his most recent job after being sacked on the eve of the new season by RB Salzburg, Todesco was so shit at Belgium Courtois literally refused to play for him, Hoeness just took Stuttgart to 9th in Bundesliga (essentially the same as Frank's 10th with Brentford since BL is an 18 team league, except they have the 7th largest wage bill in Bundesliga to Frank's 17th in PL) and Mckenna has just been relegated on 22 points. Xavi and Inzaghi granted, good names.
You bang on about Frank having no European experience but want to sign a manager in Todesco who, as RB Leipzig manager, managed to get knocked out of the Europa league by Rangers and lost 4-1 at home to a Shakhtar Donetsk side decimated by the exodus of non-Ukrainian internationals after the start of the war with Russia and stripped of their most promising player in Mudryk. Or one in Hoeness who finished 26th in the CL league stage. Hardly inspired.

Hoeness got Stuttgart CL qualification last year and won them a cup this year after his team was sold or injured

He’s a different level to Frank.

If that was the Ange replacement, it would make sense to pull the trigger… probably

I think we're missing the real major points.

First off Frankball or Thomasball sound absolutely ridiculous so unlikely to take off. A major win.

Secondly the Danish seem a fairly well rounded bunch so it feels unlikely they'll be running onto here or elsewhere chirping up that Frank is some sort of deity who invented football.

Ramos was only just starting his first full season and had only presided over 1 transfer window before that summer in which we signed Hutton, Woodgate and Gunter. I don't think it was really a case that we were waiting to see if it was untenable at that stage with Ramos, we invested heavily early in that summer and I think Levy naively thought he could sell only Keane and hold on to Berbatov until he went on strike. I think there was a genuine belief that with the players we were bringing in and a full pre-season we would start to see what Ramos was capable of. Very different situation to what faces us now, in my opinion.
