Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He doesn't want to switch to 4-2-3-1, and he's working with Paratici to have a squad where he doesn't have to, but that was the only card he had to play today and he waited too late to play it. Lucky to get away with it.

I'd call that the winner we deserved e needed to against Southampton. Swings and roundabouts.

he needed to do that at HT v soton but bcos of his love for 3 CBs and WB s he decided to sub reg and put on a right footer at LWB who has generally been an abysmal signing. That really pissed me off! Why do that when we know they were gonna sit back in the 2nd half. He could have tried some thing different but he stick with winks and PEH in CM and persisted with 5 at the back. There was no need and I think that cost is the 3 points. Surely he could have put on tanguy to try to create something? He sometimes comes across as too egoistic and lets his pride get in the way of what May the right thing to do.

I think he has done exceptionally well since coming in and he needs to be backed.

That being said, I do sense with these sort of successful yet arrogant coaches are sometimes too set in their ways with certain players and it would only take the smallest of things to get on their bad side.

I refuse to believe N'dombele would not have offered something different in the last 2 games
100%

Brilliant results thus far. Undeniably.

I will temper his start a bit by pointing out that 5 of the 8 matches have been @ home, and we've only faced 1 club (Liverpool) in the top half of the table in those 8 matches...

...but... you can only beat the teams you play and aside from the draw at So'ton (which felt like a loss), the results speak for themselves. 👍👍👍

Funny thing is that we've looked the best in that Liverpool match

I think we're a team setup to counter and in those big matches where you get more space to attack we'd be devestating.

then give his position in the squad to a kid. Putting him as a bench option leaves everyone frustrated when we see he has the attributes to break teams like Southampton and Watford down but doesn't come on.
Surely if conte has no intention of bringing him on then it’s a waste of a place on the subs bench and basically means we essentially have 1 less sun to choose from, no?
I think he should have come on in both games and it’s criminal that he has not had 1 minute. Bringing on Doherty at LWB was completely pointless regardless of how he played and then Gil at rwb. Baffling!

No ambiguity about Conte's impression of the squad and that we need to change things or add proper competition for places.

If we don't sign a couple of players hmmm....

And he clearly thinks Ndombele, Rodon and one or two others are expendable. No other way to look at it.

Totally agree with this

If Contes aim is to sign another Ndombele/Eriksen then I’ll bite it for a while, but I genuinely think it’s tactical as well as personal

It's not at all, firstly if we don't put him on the bench then it's not as if anyone else will step up, Harvey White? Nile John? Alfie Devine? Don't think any of them will get much mins regardless cause they're not good enough yet.

Secondly by not putting him on he's sending out a message to the rest of the squad, you have to work hard to deserve mins, if he plays him it goes against his entire philosophy.

It’s amazing how in defence of Kane, everyone screamed blue murder over the supply.

But when we’re crying out for a goal, the same people are fine with leaving 4 creative mids on the bench and bringing on Winks.

Think what you want about those players, but the supply doesn’t improve by swapping out one DM for another and continuing with 2 DMs in the middle.

Hi guys, Inter fan here. Thought I would chime in and let you guys know a bit what to expect from Conte and how it went for us 😀

We played 3-5-2 due to the lack of wingers we had and to get the best out of Lautaro-Lukaku. The similar thing I’ve noticed instantly is that you’re struggling more against park the bus teams and the same was for us. We actually done much better against the better teams cos the direct and counter attacking style worked better. We got very unlucky against Barcelona and Real Madrid as a matter of fact when we played them, if you wanna watch highlights of a game that shows what Conte wants to do it’s the Barcelona-Inter 2019 match.

He’s very stubborn with what he wants, it took legitimately over a year to integrate Eriksen into the team. He tried using him as a no 10 behind the strikers, didn’t work and he didn’t like his defensive output in a middle 3 so he largely benched him for a year. He prefers the more physical runners type of midfielders, in a 3-5-2 he loves midfielders who can get into the box and score goals as well as fulfil their defensive duties. Vidal at Juve was his best at this. Dele Alli is probably the closest midefielr you have to this correct me if I’m wrong ( maybe a bit less on the defensive side haha)

His more creative midfielder is usually used as a deep lying one, Pirlo at Juve being the best example. He had Brozovic for us who was brilliant as well, Winks is the closest you have who I’m not a big fan of. At Chelsea he played with 2 more destructive midfielders like he’s doing for you guys but he did have Hazard who helped tremendously with the playmaking and breaking teams down.

The wing backs it goes without saying how important they are in his system. Main reason we won the league in his 2nd season was cos of the arrival of Hakimi. Emerson and Reguilon look decent tbf and should adapt.

I absolutely adored him cos I knew we’d win with him. That’s what he is a winner, the only negative I had with him were his subs. He can go 65-70 minutes without making a sub, think the same happened today with Watford hahaha. It can get pretty frustrating especially when in some games it’s clear you don’t need 3 CB’s on the pitch.

The goal changed my mood but not the laboured approach, poor attacking and ludicrous subs

It’s going well, I’m intrigued as to who he will sign, because this approach is not sustainable with these players

It’s different to with Nuno and Jose though, because we are genuinely controlling and dominating games through his coaching structure. The issue is that we’ve got too many players who lack the technical security on the ball to see through his plans consistently.

It’s a bit like how I felt when Poch exiled and eventually got rid of Bentaleb.

Love the player, but I consider the manager to be more important in this scenario.

Yeah, we were never in control of a PL game under Nuno the way we were today, final ball toothlessness notwithstanding. And we seldom were under Mou.

It's a different sort of problem.

But it's the festive period, we're knackered, Watford parked the bus, Royal was poor with bucketloads of dangerous opportunities, I'm not going to worry too much about it.

Conte is the real thing. There can be no reasonable doubt of that, even if he makes the odd mistake as any manager does. The only question is whether we can give him the backing needed to construct this into a killer squad before he sets his eyes elsewhere.

We will see how much weve improved very very soon in the next cup games vs the Chavskis
