Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

That’s what he is a winner, the only negative I had with him were his subs. He can go 65-70 minutes without making a sub, think the same happened today with Watford hahaha. It can get pretty frustrating especially when in some games it’s clear you don’t need 3 CB’s on the pitch.
After all, he’s a human being, we all have flaws, I don’t think there’s any manager out there who’s flawless. For the caliber of our club I think he’s the best manager we could get. We aren’t Man City or Chelsea (or Newcastle) to splash countless millions on transfers nor Liverpool (or maybe Arse) to have the stature by our side. We have to remain sensible and understand he can’t win every game with the dross players we’ve got, no matter how much he trains them.

Total rubbish. What gives people the idea we have some divine right to be challenging for the top 4 and spanking teams 4/5 nil away from home.

Get real. We have been miles off being that good for years. And you’re last sentence about sacking Conte if we aren’t there at the end of the season beggars belief.

Sack him if we aren’t challenging for the top 4? And appoint who? Who do you think is going to turn this group of players into the title challengers you clearly think we are? This side is over achieving under AC at the moment, the result of a top coach that is tactically getting an extra 10% out of a basically average squad. Look at our midfield ffs.

It's nothing to do with divine rights - it's that Watford were dreadful, especially in the first half just aimlessly returning possession to us at every opportunity which we didn't make the most of.
They deserved to be spanked with the game put to bed by half time with the way they played against most sides in the Premier League. We failed to capitalise on what they gave us.

I think you mistook the last sentence.
To be in with a shout of top 4 requires around 70 points. So we should need to be on around 60 points minimum with a few games left to play.
We currently have 33 points from 18 games, meaning we should be getting around 27 points from under 15 games at this point to be in with a shout of top 4.
That's 1.8 pts per game, around the same as what we have achieved over 18 games including the 10 from Nuno.

To not be in with a shout of top 4 towards the end of the season would require us to drop points more often than not pretty much. With 20 games left to play, if we were to return 1.5 pts per game we would finish the season with 63 points, which is just 7 points off what can be expected for top 4 - and is literally Nuno form (for which he was sacked).

The situation we are in now is a result of Conte coming in and turning our 1.5 pts per game in to 2.25 pts per game. So even if he did average 1.5 pts from now until the end of season, finished with 63 pts, I don't even think he would get sacked - but it simply would be sackable form mathematically speaking given our previous sacking.

The 3-5-2 is Conte's preferred formation. I am certain that we will build the squad to suit it. But right now it seems more suited to the 3-4-3.
Big if and when that happens 3-5-2, would Conte want to bring in another striker or use Kane and Son?

If we get another top striker then what happens to either Kane/Son and to a lesser degree Lucas?

If Kane stays then what position does Son play? Would Conte try to sell Son? Does Conte rate Kane higher than Son?

So far so good, but I think it’s fair to say he could’ve been less risk averse I’m the past couple of matches, particularly v Watford where we really could’ve done with more craft. V Southampton we missed chances we should have scored and their keeper had a worldy.

I think something as simple as swapping out PEH, who I like but sadly think he’s rotation option if we have a top midfielder, for someone who can put the yards in AND dictate play (I know, not asking for much) transforms the side. The defence have a good outlet, the flanks receive the ball in more space and the forwards get a greater variety of chances to work with. Doesn’t even need to be a set type as long as they do the job. Carrick and Modric were totally different players who ultimately performed the same function. Put either next to Skipp and our central midfield is pretty complete, and Conte ball begins to take shape.

Going to be difficult to recruit a midfielder who can dictate play in January on the funds we probably have available.
Not knocking your assessment but I can't see much happening other than 1/2 out the door with perhaps a loan signing or two in.

Even with funds available January transfers for players who actually improve is will always be difficult, as apart from players with dwindling contracts, no club will sell its best players.

Our best bet is turning someone else’s trash into our treasure VDV style.

Exactly and people here expect 4 or 5 out same in and those incoming hit the ground running 🤷‍♂️ 1 good midfielder dele/tanguy out id be happy. Possible good rb and its a good window

The midfielder is most important for me. I like Emerson but can’t help but feel he lacks the feet to be a Conte wingback, and I doubt he’s playing ahead of Romero or Sanchez at RCB any time soon, so I fear for him. That said, willing to be patient for him as he’s young and has something about him. CM by far the priority in my mind and, even if on loan, someone to challenge at centre forward would be great.

I’m not debating that. Probably Inter were sensible in that aspect, considering that they’ve bought a lot in the previous years. But Conte said he’d leave if Inter would sell their main assets and it came a bit as a shock when it happened if I recall correctly. But the man is not one to take shit from the board.
Agreed, the narrative is that Conte left Inter early b/c of disagreements with Inter's board.

Boards have also had their own issues with Conte: the Chavs' sacked him (and paid out nearly £27m to Conte and his crew to piss off before his contract was up) when he finished 5th and missed the Champions League.

Sarri came in the next day and that season led the Chavs to a Europa League win (over Woolwich, the week before we lost to the Dippers in Madrid).

Difference with VDV was that he was a star player who wasn't the biggest star in a team saturated with stars. A team who got rid of the best midfielder in the World at the time in Schneijder because they wanted Kaka who had a higher profile.

Now the big teams are Liverpool, Man City, Chavs, PSG and Bayern.

None of whom stockpile stars the way galactico Madrid used to.

Looking at his transfers with Chelsea, you could say only 3 out of 13 worked out. One of which, Kante, was the simplest transfer a team could make.

Love this.

When Conte was at Chelsea he was easy to dislike.

Animated and obnoxious on the touch line (like Klopp), he’s the type of manager you love to hate.

Even w/o considering Conte’s incredible 5-3-0, 2.25 pts/PL match start, our worst to first (in distance covered by players under Nuno and Conte) is enough of a metric for me to feel excited about Conte’s approach.

I’m surprised how calm, measured, likable and humble he is when discussing the club, squad, his approach, etc.

That 16/17 season when Conte joined the Chavs, they sold Salah and Patrick Bamford for a combined £20m, and brought in Batshuayi for £35m.

16/17 Chavs also brought in (the aforementioned) Kante, David Luiz AND Marcos Alonso.

17/18 Chavs brought in Morata AND Giroud, Rudiger, Danny Drinkwater (LOL), Ross Barkley AND Bakayoko, and Zappacosta. They sold/loaned: Diego Costa, Matic, Nathan Aké, Juan Cuadrado, Kurt Zouma (loan), Batshuayi (loan).

That's really not good reading.

A fair point but there’ll always be players who should be playing more but aren’t somewhere, and not necessarily at the biggest clubs. Fallouts with managers, systems they don’t suit, etc. It’s up to us to do our homework and identify who is attainable that can improve our side. Much easier said than done without a bottomless pit of gold but hopefully this is what Paratici can bring.
