Archie Gray:
"My childhood dream was to win the Champions League, captain England at senior level and win a Ballon d'Or"
"I'm still really young, so there's a long way to go before any of that happens. But I believe I've got the ability to do it."

I love his ambition.

No way.

When you spend upwards of 40m you have every right to expect more then when a youth player is coming up through the system, irrespective of age.

Not to say you expect him to tear it up instantly but you definitely expect some sort of contribution, be it goals, assists, general performance, defensive or attacking contribution etc.
Which is why the writing off of players like Brennan Johnson is asinine. In his first season, he's been involved in 15 goals. End product. Yet you have quite a volume of "fans" who insist he's shit and will never get better.

We've invested in Gray for the long term, not his immediate impact. Yes you would like to see an immediate impact, but expecting it from an 18 year old, who has never played Prem Football, is ridiculous.

There is the issue. You're putting expectation based on a pricetag that you think demands immediate return. The reality is that it doesn't work like that. Young kids are still learning their trade, no matter how talented they are.
