Player Archie Gray

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I don't think it especially wise to mess Gray about by trying to fast-track him into MF the moment we don't need him at CB. It might be wise to carry on training him as an 'honorary' CB now till the summer (or at least til we get all our CBs back).

Love him. Thought he struggled a bit today but he never let it get to him - just kept going and got the job done.

Christ when I was his age I could barely pick my nose effectively- this prick is holding down CB for Spurs in one of the hardest busiest seasons we've had. Lad
Yeah, there was a bit in the second half, where he was a bit slow to turn around in the box with the attacker going past him. Should get a rest now with the new signing and defenders coming back.

No idea why so many people think Gray is our saviour in midfield. He has not been above average the few minutes he has been asked to play there, the Everton game being very glaring.

Even at Leeds, he rarely played in centre midfield in his sole season there, with two thirds of his appearances as right back.

Unproven in central midfield in the Championship, yet seen as the solution to our midfield in the Premier League.

So i dont get where these thoughts are coming from.
I accidentally posted this in the match thread for ya
Whilst you make a valid point the best way approach Archie’s Spurs career is thus
If for any reason Gray doesn’t turn out to be a superstar 6 … then the consolation is he’s going to be our classiest ball playing CB for the next 15 years

Has been fantastic this season, even the games we have lost he has still played very well. Only really against Everton did he has some bad luck.

Hard to believe he's only 18 years, playing in such an important position which isn't even his own.

If it does transpire that he doesn’t possess the quickness of thought to play the 6

Id like to suggest he does but until that moment

It’s easy to see a filled out Archie dominating his opposite number, winning tackles and expertly marshalling defences

Then stepping out to showcase his ability with the ball being the first playmaker

To be outperforming in that position with all the responsibility that comes with it aged 18 speaks to what a talent he is

I’d pick Archie over the recent edition of Romero

Thing is once Romero is back he will be starting with vdv most games. I think natural cm is an area we are currently light in so if he keeps playing how he is I can't see why he can't carry on playing just further up the pitch. There's been a lot of inconsistency in the middle this year and he seems pretty reliable in terms of level of performance week in week out.
The thing is I think he's so good and composed with the ball I think he can play pretty much anywhere now whereas at the start I thought he was poor at full back he's just grown and grown as the season has gone on.

Good time to repost this, as we haven't seen much of him in midfield. Dominated Caicedo away from home aged 17.

Hopefully we start to see him in our midfield as Romero/VDV/Danso come back in to defence.

I can't remember who said it but the poster said "what evidence do we have that gray would be good in CM at all". That person apparently has not seen this vid.

Romero isn't back.

Don't lose sight of his age and relative inexperience.......... A little consistency (in terms of position and what he's being asked to do) will go a long way.... Until we decide that he's not needed at CB any longer then (imo) we should just have him do that.

He could be that sweeper cb who moves into midfield in a three man defence, a proper 6, 8, CB, FB whatever he wants really. He has it 100% - proper footballer with a brain.
Excited to see him progress with us long term now with Bergvall too. Could be our midfield sorted for ten years.

Am i the only one that doesn't think he's been "fantastic" this season?

I think he's generally been fine/decent but nothing more and nothing less. He's got a high ceiling but i do think we are overpraising him quite substantially and if it was an academy kid putting in these performances we would be saying he's been decent but would still prefer someone better was starting in that position. Posts about call ups for England are weird.

Hes not been perfect but with what hes been asked to do and what he shows every game he has been fantastic imo. Tons of improving to do but have zero doubts he is going to be a top player for us.
England call up chat is silly at this stage but its all ahead of him for sure.
