Surely that MF would work even better with JP rather than Benta?

........I mean; when AG is on it he's basically a more energetic RB so no need for both.

When our MF is finally settled I still want someone in there that can fuck a mofo up.
We lost a lot of control when JP came on. Not sure if that's because of momentum or some tired legs elsewhere, but I've a feeling it's because the balance, whilst not amazing, was greater with Bents than JP

I like him, I like his style of running, handling the ball, passing, and mainly looking to push forward.

It all still look unfinished product though and one can tell this is a talented "young" fella. If this kid gets the minutes and more importantly the manager to manage his development, I see another Gareth Bale story. Not the position or style or speed, but the breakthrough and arrival on world stage as a superstar.

YES I SAID IT. ANOTHER GARETH BALE. THE GARETH BALE.

He reminds me of someone great but not able to pinpoint who exactly. I will figure it out. I wish we could get an experienced midfielder who can help him on the field and teach him during the match. Someone like Jordan Henderson (not asking for Henderson to be brought it, just giving an example of an experienced midfield man who can be a mentor for a season or two).
Carrick?

He has a little way to go, but the signs are encouraging.

Personally, I think he has everything to challenge the likes of Wharton and Anderson, he just needs the minutes in the position best suited to him and the patience, from both manager and fan base, to get through any rough spots he'll inevitably encounter.

I really do think we've got a proper baller in this kid.

We were starving to be fair.
100% but as a fanbase we are overreacting massively to something that should be a norm i.e. beating the likes of Brentford at home. I get it. We haven't won many games at home this calendar year but I'm not getting carried away. 7 points from our next 3 games in the PL and I'll start considering whether a corner has been turned.

What attribute does Benta bring that creates that balance then.....?
It was just one game, we will no doubt be terrible the next so not saying you can derive firm conclusions from it, just an observation on that particularly game. If you had both on their best day I think most would say that Bents has more to his game than JP. We've seen that this season - he's been mostly average but had a couple of great performances where he looks unplayable (opposition being key no doubt). His biggest issue is consistency, and we're not in a position where we can weather that lack of consistency tbh, just felt we were better yesterday with the set up that we started with

I don't think Gray is better ( yet )than Bentancur .

The worry is that Gray is a no goals and assists midfielder in the Winks, Skipp and others mould.
Yes he looks better than the above - but how much better- time will tell.

£35m seems a lot.
Goals and assists are not not a benchmark of a good midfielder

Bentacur has been dreadful this season

VDV does the same. Hugely underrated skill - so many of our players are erratic scrappers who don’t do the basics of this….. another issue we have is no-one can pass the ball first time, especially in CM. Can release forward players and create chances with a simple first time pass
Yeah, if we had another 4 or so so players who pass like this it would completely change our football. That Poch team passed the ball so crisply - Kane, Eriksen, Dembele, Vertonghen, Toby - all passed it with care.

Very good. Yes, he does look very close to Carrick. If he turns out like him, that would be special.
