Player Archie Gray

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

No, he's much more than that. We haven't even seen his shooting boots as nobody on our team has had both the wit and occasion to lay one off to him.

Consider this:

ST
LW - Xavi - RW
Gray - Bergvall
LB - CB - CB - RB
GK
That is some serious size and aggression in CM right there- easily enough to cover for Xavi.
I'm sure most will say they aren't old enough to be trusted as our CM pairing in the Prem, but, I say, why not give it a try? Surely we have to be looking at that as our future central midfield. Either way I'm loving the look of Frank apprenticing Gray and Bergvall alongside Palh/Benta. Good call by Frank (so far)...
I think he’s not afraid to shoot. He saw him drawing back a few times vs Brentford so I think he has it in his locker. Size wise both Archie and Lucas are 6’2 without a snowflake bone in either body. Plenty big enough and plenty of dog in both of them I think to cope with the PL. then as you say Xavi, a bit of flair and also not without some dog about him.
Shows the importance of the likes of JP and Bents as some steady head and a bit of a mentor role model. Quite like the future potential here.

Don't want to get to excited but this kid is better than Hoddle, Waddle, and Gazza rolled together*

At the age of 19 I mean. Obviously those guys were better that Archie when they were in their prime - but only slightly.

Well Done Good Job GIF

He has only scored one goal in his whole Leeds and Spurs career .
Why do you think he will have a good shot?
I don't think that will be his game - his biggest strength will be that he can play in different positions

The pass wasn't intended for him. He was only supposed to act as a bridge between Vicario and Romero since the direct passing angle to the latter was cut by an opponent. These kind of mini triangles to relieve the pressure while playing out from the back are routine stuff these days.

He failed to realize that and instead tried to control it himself. Should've one touched it to a wide open Romero who was clearly in his eyeline as well. Bizarre decision all around.

Either way, as I said in the match thread, I see little in Gray that suggests that he could be anything other than a holding midfielder with decent technique. Right now Frank is either trying to make a box-to-box midfielder out of him in a futile attempt, or is just trying to recreate the earlier double pivot with him in place of Palhinha. Neither is ideal.

I still think he's quality and don't think he should be slaughtered for this mistake - he knows more than anyone else it was a dreadful dreadful error.

At least he showed for the ball before having his brain fart.

Shocking error from him today. I'm usually quick to blame Vicario, but Gray ran for and demanded the ball. Absolutely needless first touch when the obvious thing was a first-time pass to his left. We probably would've lost today anyway, but nothing like gifting the opposition an early Xmas prezzie, is there?

You play young players that you have faith in because you want them to get out all their mistakes and naivety, so that in time they have hard earned wisdom. If you play them, you have to accept that these mistakes happen. The hope then, is that the team as a whole has the fortitude to drag themselves and him back up, and rectify the mistake.. That's where we fell short today for me. Not that error.

Bit bemused what people see in Gray. We love over rating some of our young players. Think Bergvall has something but Gray is just a bit basic. If he came through our youth team we’d be saying he’s not ready or probably not good enough. Is the fact we spent 40m on him making people see things that aren’t there.

he should have passed first time no ones disputing that. id like to know if he actually got a man on call tho? because if he doesnt get a man on call hes going to think hes safe to take a touch. there was a moment later in the game when davies kicks the ball away under no pressure, then turns round to vicario and moans about a lack of communication....

the problem with vicario is, teams know he struggles with his feet, and for some reason we dont just go long with him which is far safer. hes a dream for the opposition, you know if you press hard and he doesnt go long then you have a chance, the passing from him wont be great and straight away we are fighting to keep hold of the ball anyway.

if you have a keeper who can actually pass properly, they wont stick such a hard press on as its wasted energy, but with vicario you know you have a chance if you press, as the quality wont be there. its football suicide trying to play out with a keeper who has clown feet, the leagues woken up to this a long time ago.

Frank has laid blame for the goal firmly at Archie's door.
Says pass from Vicario totally fine, sort of thing you see 100's of times and just needed first time touch from Archie and for some unknown reason he didn't do it.

He didnt show for the ball all game bar that moment. Every other time he was hiding and so behind general play it was insane (both him and Bentancur).
He was completely invisible up to that point. Don’t think you can play him in tough away games. He might improve but don’t see this stand out technical ability that people keep saying. He’s not very press resistant at all and very one paced. Really strange to me that Bergvalls not playing. He might make mistakes but he shows up and tries to impact the game. You give those sort of players time imo.
