And there you have it when a supporter becomes the stockholder, where revenue becomes preferential to silverware. It’s show just how warped things have become when supporters measure the value of a trophy by the monetary awards attached to them and denigrate the tournaments that have defined this club.

Newsflash, we finished 12 points behind Leciester and came in 3rd, at no point did occupy top spot. We followed that by finishing 2nd and only ‘6’ points behind the winners and again did not occupy the top spot at any point that season. If that makes us ‘challengers’ then we have a very different interpretation of this. And besides why the focus on those seasons what did we challenge for in this one?

As for acquiring the finance to attract the best players. Well firstly I have made no such demands, we don’t have the means to pay the best and the CL doesn’t alter that in anyway. If it did we would have seen a different output in our transfer windows, we would see us paying our best players the market rate. That’s not happening because you are turning the CL into something it is not. You are creating a fantasy out of media generated soundbites designed to sell tv packages.

I would imagine you dont have the slightest clue how much it has generated for us or the slightest at clue as to how the distribution works. If you did then you wouldn’t making such proclamations about such a highly variable unsecured income stream.
The cartoon Cup has always been a sham. It was created as a second rate sham of a competition. The only time it’s status was slightly elevated was during the euro-ban. Well the euro-ban is over, and that tin pot is back to being a joke.

The only reason a certain sect of Spurs supporters refuse to admit this is then we’d have to be honest about having won fuck all in 27 years.

Are you seriously of the opinion that winning a second rate competition that barely rates above preseason challenges is more important to the club than qualifying for the elite global competition? You’d be satisfied right now if we’d pushed on in the cartoon Cup, won it, but it caused us to drop 7 points along the way and we finished 5th?

Being in the CL means more in direct revenue dispersal and also increases the value of a number of lucrative sponsorships. Winning the cartoon Cup wouldn’t even pay for the players to participate in the competition. We cannot financially build and maintain a squad that can challenge to win the league by prioritizing the league cup and/or FA Cup over the CL. And I’d trade 10 bullshit league cups no one gives a fuck about for this squad to win the league once in the next 15 years.

I don’t know why I bother even responding to such fucking nonsense. The 80s are over, I know it’s hard for you to get your head around but it’s true. The world has moved on, domestic cups are a fun little side competition...they don’t matter.

Quite something to post all of that and post little to no substance.

Firstly we weren’t mocking Woolwich for the mere sake of it, we were mocking them for their absurd top 4 trophy proclamation. For them using this to excuse their failure to win silverware. We have gone from that to converting that postion, we are Woolwich circa 2007-2013 and people are actually championing this. Utter complete madness.

Secondarily what embarrasses me about this club are those involved in the club who prioritise revenue steams over silverware who denigrate tournaments such as the FA cup or UEFA that have defined this club. It’s not doom and gloom it is called frustration at watching such an massive opportunity being squandered in the exact manner as it was during the Redknapp era and so many in the supporter readily going along with this. It’s same strategy as before and low and behold it is the same outcome. You fantasists can spin all of the comfort narratives you want - none of them from CL revenues to the new stadium hold true.

How many years have to pass without silverware before the penny drops and people actually start to realise that something is amiss? I guess I know the answer because supporters like yourself perpetually live in a fictitious golden future they have dreamt up and never in the here and now.

If you find following Spurs so utterly depressing then why not just stop? We can ping you a message when we’ve won something if you like, and you can come to the bus parade. In the meanwhile the rest of us can enjoy the journey we are on, becoming one of the best teams in the country and having some big European nights against some of the biggest clubs in the world. All stuff that apparently isn’t enjoyable to you. You can demand trophies all you want but it will never make it so, might as well try to just enjoy being a Spurs fan, for all the highs and lows that come with it. It’s actually pretty great.

Christ you're fucking boring.

What should we do? Play weakened teams in the league before all cup games? Risk bankrupting the club by signing bug bume players on big wages all for the sake of winning the FA cup?

Pompey did they, where the fuck are they now?

Seriously I don't know what you're moaning about. We've really never had it so good.

Cheer the fuck up!

I love where we are right now. I'm proud of this football club, proud that it is currently putting in top 3 finishes, the first time I've experienced that in my lifetime. The first time in my lifetime our ability as a football club is genuinely top quality, not pretending to be good winning a cup once in a decade to placate the type of supporter like you. But sustaining truly great consistent performances over successive seasons. This has never been done since the early 60's, we are bonafide, not a wishful, hopeful, wannabe, not a club who wins a pot whilst finishing 10th or 11th. Being the 10th or 11th best side in the league really isn't all that to crow about.

I will mock Woolwich for whatever I want to, don't start making up you're own rules around what should or shouldn't be mocked, I will mock them if we are in League 2 and they are winning CL, get over yourself and start acting like you care. Stop being so embarrassed, if you can't feel any joy in these times may the lord have mersey on your miserable, depressing soul.

Get back in your dungeon and cry yourself to sleep. Pathetic.

I don’t know what is worse someone having the fucking gall to make such a claim or the number of people actually liking that statement.

We haven't though, certainly not in the PL era. Stats back this up, three consecutive Top Three finishes. When did we last do that? The fucking 60's.

I want to see us win trophies but I'm not going to whine and bitch about it. There's only four we can win each season (assuming we're in Europe) and plenty of other good sides are attempting to do the same.

We'll get there, I'm sure of it just show some fucking patience, get behind the team and stop being such a negative cunt.

Cartoon cup? Jesus fucking Christ, were you saying all of this back in 99 and 08? Wait up guys stop the celebrations there is no fucking revenue stream for this!! What about our turnover- why is no one thinking of the shareholders!

You have to give it to the games money’s men they have convinced all whole generation of supporters that revenue is now the most prised possession for a football club. The turkeys are now clamouring for Christmas, that a supporter can come on a football forum have the fuckin gall to say that domestic cups don’t matter- how far the worm has turned.

Again you clearly have no understanding as to what the CL actually is, no understanding of revenue distribution or its effect on our capacity. Just the usual regurgitation of the vapid soundbites don’t stand up to may scrutiny.

And that was the same with the Redknapp era which seemingly you Pochettinho fangirls have written out of history.

If you are content with a club that hasn’t won anything in a decade despite possessing 2 of its most talented in sides in that time then that really does say a lot about you. If you wish to adopt participation award mentality then good for you, I will instead continue expect the club to respect its history and strive to win those tournaments that have defined it.

I think calling it the Cartoon Cup is a tad harsh but it's not a priority, rather a competition most sides only take seriously once they reach the last eight maybe only the semi-final stage.

I remember '08, apart from two games (the 5-1 over Woolwich and the final itself) it was a pretty miserable season which saw us finish 11th.

I've enjoyed the last three seasons far far more.

All clubs rotate their squads for domestic cup games, those with stronger squads invariably win them.....do you know what, I'm tired of arguing with you. You're acting as if we've just finished mid-table or something. I don't get the extreme negativity, I truly don't.

Enjoy your misery, wallow in it if you must but stop trying to drag us down with you.

Who fucking cares? Absolutely no gave a fuck about us finishing 3rd under Venables . No one remembers or gives a shut about Woolwich back to backs CL qualifications.

Jesus Christ if this was any other clubs supporters you would be ridiculed for the comments you are coming out with.

And again we are back to this glorious tomorrow- all that is required is more patience! Of course!

Fangirls?! Jesus wept.

You've lost it mate, truly lost it.

Fuck it's going to be a loooong summer on here isn't it!

I’m just waiting for you lot to parade the balancesheet on an open top bus. Turnover up by a whopping 30%- what a time to be a alive!!! With the right project in place we can break the £400 million barrier!

Well yeah, the season's over you twat. Can't win anything now until we start again in August.

I don't give a shit about other clubs, most of which I either loathe or am generally indifferent about. Lots of clubs

"You lot"?

Careful now or you might be in danger of coming out of your Gooner closet. ;-)

Write to Levy or Poch if you're that concerned and dissatisfied, stop bothering us with your tedious shite.

What an bundle of joy you are.

We are more likely to win a trophy now than ever before, testament to the fact that we are a bonafide good side, third best in the league in fact.

Keep crying, keep being embarrassed though, #properfan

Can you explain how we "denigrated" the FA cup THIS year ?
The line up being
Vorm
Tripp Sanchez Jan Davies

Dembele Dier

Son Dele Ericksen

Kane
Whilst I agree that Hugo should have played, apart from that it's been pretty much our first team line up.

By the manager openly stating that it wasn’t a priority and that it wouldn’t change the club. That attitude has been prevalent since the Redknapp days and the performances reflect that - we got taken to replays against Rochdale and Newport and lost to the first decent side we played despite playing in our home stadium.

If winning trophies is the only enjoyment you get out of football then frankly I don’t know why you bother with it. That’s a pretty miserable existence. Glory hunting is the reason every fucking kid at my school chose to be a Man U fan, despite living in the south. That’s some shallow shit. You should thank your lucky stars that your dad didn’t raise you a Sunderland fan.

“If you are content with a club that hasn’t won anything in a decade....”??!!! I’m more than content with this club. I love this club and I have always been proud to be a Spurs fan even through the shittest of times. What the fuck difference would not being content make? Do you think constantly complaining about it will suddenly make a difference? Why not just enjoy the ride instead of being eternally dissatisfied? Entitled “fans” stamping their feet and throwing tantrums because we didn’t win the Carabou Cup don’t deserve this team.
