Player Brandon Austin

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Happy he got his debiut finally and haven't made mistakes.

I would recommend though to not make any assumptions that he is better than Forster etc - Forster also had like 2-3 all right games post Vicario injury before United happened.

Fully expect we put new guy into starting lineup as soon as possible.

As a hunch, I think Austin should have been given more of a chance instead of Forster. How do you really find out how good a player is if you don't play them?

How many times do you really hear things like 'we have a young superstar goalkeeper coming through our ranks' at any club? Given the errors the likes of Lloris, Vicario and Forster have made at Spurs, I doubt Austin is really that much of a hindrance to play overall. I don't think Parma had any real clue as to how good Buffon was until they were forced to play him at 16 and he swam instead of sank.

By playing Austin instead how much of a better player can you make him just through gaining vital top level experience alone. Not saying he is Buffon but chances are the club probably has a capable keeper coming through the ranks. Trouble is we never find out because we arguably haven't given any a fair chance since Ian Walker over 30 years ago.

Just looked back to our pre-season matches - the first two matches he shared with Whiteman and Gunter, with Austin getting 45 mins.

Then the next 3 preseason games (including the Bayern game played on tour where both Vicario and Austin conceded a goal each), Vicario and Austin played 45 mins each in all 3 games - and it was only the Bayern game played at Tottenham just before the season started that Vicario played the full 90 mins (and Forster was injured all preseason).

Of course its difficult to tell how competitive pre-season games are against Hearts, QPR, a Japanese side and an 'all stars South Korean;' team and the Bayern side played on tour was, like Spurs, not at full strength, but Ange will have seen quite a lot of Austin playing in pre-season

So its mad that it takes an injury crisis for Austin to make his first PL appearance with a start, and everyone's opinion is that he did quite well, and nobody has said (at least as far as I can see) that Vicario or Forster would have done better. I wonder if Austin will now get a couple more games before Vicario gets back and before Kinsky gets acclimatised to English football and the Spurs team

Its mental that Forster has been starting ahead of him.granted its a small sample but surely he hasnt been all that bad in training.mind boggling

Can't but feel sorry for Brandon Austin: when he finally get his debut (for Spurs) he did well...and then a few days later Spurs buys Kinsky, who's debut vs Liverpool was impressive, and Vicario's back in training and Forster is back from illness
But, as pointed out above, it could be a good to play him vs Tamworth.

He must be happy enough to draw a decent wage and just train to make up the numbers ,can't really understand why he would spend his career doing that .Surely a bit of professional pride would come into it .

It would be tempting and would he even get that if he was playing with a Chamionship team?

I think he'd have to back himself to being the no 1 GK in many Championship teams - but to get to that he'd probably need to have more experience - and to get that experience he'd probably need to drop his wages to get experience at say a L1 club and take a chance of getting spotted by a Championship club wanting a no 1 gk.

Unexciting, but easy to see why he might make more money as no 3 at Spurs than gambling he might get more elsewhere but only if he were very lucky.

3rd choice club trained goalie? Can't Ask him to do more than he did today. Solid performance ( think he could stay on the line for their 2nd goal though)
